Fearin shook her body as she got to her hooves. Slowly she made her way out of the large clump to trees that served as her shelter during the nights into the mornings light. It was still quite early in the morning, she suns reddish glow reflecting off the snow that covered the ground. Moving her heavy feather feet she made her way easily thought the semi-deep snow towards a small stream nearby. Once there she used one of her big hooves to break through the thin layer of ice that had formed.
She took a quick look around before lowered her head. Taking deep gulps of the cold water was quite refreshing. Once she got her fill she moved a bit away from the stream. Her eyes moved along the horizon looking for any signs of other horses.

Ashia trotted down along the treeline. She smiled happily, having just awoke from a nice sleep. It wasn't often she got such a wonderful rest and it put the sweet mare in an even better mood. The back of her mind nagged that she wasn't going fast enough, she had to hurry, but she reminded that part that she was still doing her job. The forest was so dangerous. She looked into the trees. It looked... well safe and happy. She giggled softly. "Mabye not so dangerous today." She said to herself as she continued onward. She was glad the trees offered a bit of shelter from the snow. It was nice to be able to walk easily for once. Her feather bobbed and swayed as her load jingled and rustled softly.
Yes yes, she assured herself, today was a fantastic day!

Faerin's head snapped around as she heard an odd sound. She spotted a relatively small mare trudging through the snow will a bunch of interesting looking adornments on her. The red feather bobbing around as the mare moved made Faerin smile. She began to move in the direction of the mare her heavy hooves and leaves leaving deep furrows in the snow.
"Good morning!" Faerin called out when she got close enough that she knew her voice would carry to the mare who was still a bit a ways away.

The little mare perked up as she heard something, or rather someone. It didn't take much for her to zoom in on the other. Grey, dappled and spotty. How pretty, she thought. Oh but it was such a distance to shout. Hmm, she thought or a moment before picking up speed. She hurried along until she was much closer. "Hello there!" She called back. "Good morning to you as well!" Ashia smiled brightly. She caught sight of the ribbons and she couldn't help but giggle softly. So cute! And was that, feathers? Oh how interesting! "My name is Ashia, and yours?" She said, finally slowing down as she reached what she thought was an acceptable distance. She noted this other was a mare, and was definitely bigger then her. What was it with her and running into larger horses! She shook her head lightly at the thought before smiling at the other.

"It is good to meet you Ashia." Faerin said with a slight incline to her head. "My name is Faerin." She smiled down at the smaller mare. Faerin nearly towered over her, but that didn't matter to Faerin, as far as she was concerned size didn't matter. "How are you doing this lovely morning?" Her eyes moved to all the things on the mares back. How odd and yet interesting they all were. "What are those?" She asked motioning with her nose to the items in question. "If you don't mind me asking."

"Faerin, what a pretty name." She commented happily. Yes, this mare was much larger then her, and she had to look up to see her better. How bothersome. But it wasn't the mare's fault and there was no reason she should be brooding about it. It was so nice to run into a nice, normal, horse. And a mare to boot. Though, she had to admit, other mares did bring back bad memories from time to time. It had been the mares of her herd that had left her and her mother to die. She shook those thoughts from her head with great vigor. No no, not thinking about that!
"Oh I'm wonderful this morning! Just splendid! And I don't mind one bit!" Oh no, Ashia loved to tell about her work, and what she carried. She always hoped she'd inspire another to go the same as her, or at least be more open, should they find a lost foal. Not many cared what happened to a foal that was not theirs, she knew. It was sad, but true. "These things are my tools, so to speak. I rescue foals, or help those that are injured or lost. Everything I carry is for that from the bead chain." She shook out her mane and flicked her tail, indicating the green cord. "To my feather, and blanket, and these little greens. Its all so useful in keeping foals warm, safe, and dry." Ashia hoped she'd summed it up well enough, realizing that the other mare might not be that interested to hear ever little detail about what each item was for.

"Thank you." Faerin said in response to the mare stating her name being pretty. Her eyes moved once more to the things on the smaller mares back as she explained what each one was for. Her maw opened into a smile, that was so nice that she did such things. "You save foals." He repeated with a bit of excitement. "That is such a nice gesture. Were you trained to do this or did you learn how to do it yourself?"
Faerin was glad to meet this little mare after last meeting two stallions. Not that she didn't enjoy her talks with Lorcan and Szad, but talking to mares was more enjoyable as they often have more things in common and could get along so well. "Have you rescued many foals?" She wondered just what it would take to rescue a sick or lost foal, or full sized horse for that matter, but she held back the questions for now not wanted to overwhelm the mare with her curiosity having just met her.

"Your welcome" She said happily in response. Her whole body perked up even more at the questions. Oh, she was interested! Now now, calm down Ashia, she reminded herself. No going off and scaring this lovely mare away. This could be a good friend, a helper, another mare such as herself! Take a deep breath and stay calm...
"Well I was abandoned as my mother grew to sick to travel with the herd... When she passed a stallion, large, like yourself, seemed to appear out of no where. It was snowing, like it is now. He took me with him to a small clearing where some mares lived and took care of foals who needed homes. Bless their hearts. Another stallion comes by there, once in a while. I think he's the mate of one of the mares, since she often has her own foals who leave with him when they are grown. Ah, but yes, the stallion who saved me. He took me there and I was raised by them. When I was old enough, I went with him and he trained me to do the same. He...ah... vanished, one day... I've not seen him since..." She trailed off, looking down sadly. She missed him dearly.
Her second question perked her back up. "Oh, a good number, I'm sad to say. There are many I don't reach in time... but I do think I save a good number." She smiled happily at this thought, shoving the sad loss of the stallion into the back of her mind.

"Oh I'm so sorry to hear that." She said both regarding what had happened to Ashia as a foal and then her mentor going missing. But the little mare seemed to have a good spirit about her and didn't look like she would let bad thoughts of events get her down. "What does this stallion look like? I have seen several stallion in the area, although I cannot guarantee that any of them are the one you have lost."
Her head bobbed a bit as the mare spoke about the foals she had saved and those she had not. "Saving some is better than saving none at all I should think."

"Well he... He's white, like the snow. He has lots of hair, on his legs and his made and tail are so long and thick. All white to. And lets see... last I saw he had a bear skin on his back, he used it to keep foals warm. And he carried a large branch from one of the trees that stays green. He also... he had a sort of rope or string, that he had loosly wrapped around him." Ashia's eyes unfocused as she talked, her mind drifting back. "He was beautiful..." She said softly. A breeze caught her feather and it flattened into her face, the edges hitting her eyes and making her shake her head. "Oh... Sorry about that." She said, coming out of her trance like state. "I was just.... thinking about the snow, the winter...him going through it all. Its been a long time since I saw him. He wasn't a young horse when I met him and well..." She trailed off. "Ah, yes... Those I don't get to in time I was not meant to save. Its sad but... it is how it is."

Faerin lifted her head in thought as she began doing through all the horses she had met since coming to this new land. Well there was one that slightly matched this stallions description but that's as far as resemblances went. She knew that Szad, while large and an almost white grey, was not the stallion this mare was describing. All others were either a shade of brown or mares. Looking back down at the little mare Faerin spoke again. "I'm sorry, I have not see a stallion matching that description around here. Although I will keep my eye out from now on."
Her head shook a bit in sadness as Aisha spoke again. "Indeed it is sad that you cannot make it to all of them in time. But never let that stop you from what you are doing now." She told the mare, although from how passionate Aisha seemed about her job she doubted the mare would.

Ashia's ears twitched a bit. She hadn't expected this mare to have seen him. Or rather, she hadn't let herself hope for that much. One day, she had to find him... She told herself that a lot. One day. "That's alright. I'm sure he isn't interesting in gaining much attention. He tends to stand out. And since he is, well I assume retired, he's likely found some cosy place to spend the rest of his years. One day I'll do the same... Once there is another to take my place. It...well it was never told to me that thats how tihngs are, but I'm sure thats how things will go. I'll find a foal, or produce my own, that has the same drive and dream. Then when they are old enough they'll come with me and one day, I'll go off, hopefully with a mate, and find a quiet little place in the forest with water, food, shelter, and friendly little creatures to watch." She had to giggle at the image she painted in her own head. It was so perfect... So beautiful. "Ah, sorry, I'm rambling on."

A smile crossed Faerin's maw as she listened to the little mares story about the stallion and what her future plans would be. It seemed that Ashia had things all figured out. Unlike Faerin who was living each day as it came with no real idea of what she would do in the future. She had some vague ideas but Faerin was yet to actually start looking towards those ideas. No for right now she was a drifter...a drifter that stayed in one place.
"Don't apologize." She told Ashia when the mare stopped her rambling. "I don't mind your rambling one bit." Her voice chuckled slightly. "It's actually quite refreshing from all the other horses I have spoken to lately." So far she had run into a handful of stallions and very few mares. The stallions had been pleasant to talk to, and the mares, well they were too busy looking for a herd or their friend to stay and talk long. "So tell me, how many other horses do you know that do the same things as you? Rescuing foals and training them in those ways when they are older?"

"Oh that's good. I'd hate to talk your ears off. Being a bother is so rude." Ashia nodded. How many others? She thought, blinking a bit at this question. "Well... No one." She admitted. "My mentor was the only other I have ever met." She thought a bit more. Nope, never ran into another who did or who seemed like they wanted to. It was a pity. "It would be so nice to have others to help, but not everyone is willing to spend their lives always wandering and ending up in potentially bad situations just to help a foal they don't know." Ashia shrugged lightly, her load jingling. She didn't blame those who could not see the world as she did. They didn't have the time or thoughts to do what she did and that was perfectly fine. Somewhere, someone did the same, she knew it had to be true and that was a nice thought.
"Oh but here is me talking all about myself. What about you? Your all alone, do you travel much? Or is your herd just elsewhere?" Ashia asked, ears perking. How rude of her to just go on and on about herself. This mare looked so vary interesting, she, of course, needed to find out more about her.

"Perhaps one day other horses will do what you are doing, then more foals could be saved." She told Ashia with a smile. Faerin really did respect this mare for what she did, most horses would not be willing to devote their lives to such a hard task. Ashia's questions about made Faerin think a bit. What about her...she had been roaming for some time really doing nothing of interest.
"Well at one time I belonged to a herd that resides in a distant land from here. I left them several moons ago looking for some time along. The herd wasn't perfect and I feared that staying there much longer could be bad. So I've pretty much been roaming around ever since." She paused for a moment thinking about anything else she could talk about that would be interesting, though her life was pretty dull compared to Ashia's. "Perhaps one day I will join another herd and settle down, but for now I go where my hooves take me."
