According to the Nintendo website, FFIV has already been released for the GBA.
Why is this so damned awesome and relevant to an FFVI guild? Because FFVI is being released NEXT YEAR on the GBA and the GBA version of FFIV seems to be virtually unchanged graphic wise and from what I read will not put off any fans of the SNES system or fans of the older FF games or of FFIV in general.

Hmmm... Maybe I should rent it...

Nintendo.com still hasn't listed anything regarding FFVI yet, but it's still already been confirmed that they will make remakes of games 1-6 on the GBA (with the exception of III which will be on the DS).
I wish they'd get with the exact release dates.
Hmm... maybe this means FFV will be playable? I hated the PS version and roms are slow on my comp.

oh, i supose i should explain:

it has a full audio (Vocal) opening song.. wich is really awsome...
i mean, to have a fully vocal song along with such a long RPG... and the graphics.. it's just amazing...
I really like the song too...

yah, if you're not going to buy it you should deffenately rent it, at least... though i dont know if you'd be able to beat it like that....

ToP is an excellent game biggrin

I'm a huge fan of the Tales series (Tales of Destiny is my fav). My only fear is the translation....I'm really hoping some time was put into the localization text : /

Added: I picked up FFIV and I'm very happy with it. I also convinced several co-workers who had never played it to get it too and everyone was very happy biggrin

EDIT: This bottom part is irrelevant, as I read "IV" as "VI" (lol)
But for anyone who didn't know, FFV and VI are coming as GBA ports, too ^^

Also, Square launched the Japanese site for the DS remake of FF3....yesterday? last week? sometime recently ^^

As for FFVI on the GBA (yay!), I'm absolutly thrilled that it's going to be virtually untouched (though, I'll admitt, I was really hoping for an updated version (like FF3) for the DS....just because I'm greedy like that ^^')

I wish the demo was going to playable at E3, though sad

I'm guessing it won't be playable since it's pretty much a standard port, but I would have standed in line for it....would have been the highlight og the show for me *sigh*

I saw the demo on the FFIV website, and was mildly disappointed that they changed the translation. I know the old one had some SERIOUS problems ("Golbez... abused my airship and now Rosa!" springs to mind), but in my opinion, it always managed to walk that fine line between funny and obnoxious.

I'll probably be picking up VI when it comes out. Maybe they'll finally fix the Evade bug, hm? And I hope they went with the unedited sprites.

If I were to rent it, I'd just keep renting it till I finished it xp
Perhaps a waste of cash?

They're going to change the translation for VI when it comes out too... I hope they keep the lines that they outta keep.
If they don't keep "Son of a Submareiner" I think I'm going to cry.
Honestly, would you rather have wit or vulgarity in your games?
"Son of a b***h" just seems stupid to me.
What's the Evade bug? Do you mean with Vanish and Doom or something else?
If it's the same format as the SNES version, I find it unlikely that they figured out how to fix that.

Aww, but I like the current translation! I never even noticed the lack of vulgarity. Although they may keep it at least mostly the same, like they did when they converted it to the PS version.

I'm such a nerd, I was noticing missing periods and added exclamation points... I guess as long as there aren't any load times and they don't royally screw with anything it'll be okay.

One change I would like to see is the elimination of the CES run. Theoretically, in the World of Ruin, you only ever have to get Celes, Edgar, and Setzer in your party. So if you get Sabin before Edgar (which almost everyone does), neither brother reacts when they are reunited. This always struck me as odd, considering their backstories and personalities... I'd like them to somehow "fix" it so that you either have to get Sabin, or so that he actually responds to his brother.

The Evade bug is just as simple as it souds--Evade does absolutely nothing. Instead, MBlock is the base stat used for determining whether or not an attack will connect. Try it sometime--give a character stuff that gives them a 128 MBlock, and watch them never get hit by anything.

Vanish/Doom works because when in Vanish status, all spells connect, even those a creature should be immune to. This leads to a number of problems, most notably the Behemoth fought in the Veldt Cave in the World of Ruin. If you Vanish/Doom him in the first fight, he won't return as a undead for the second, and you lose all chance of getting the victory item from the second fight.

There are a number of odd little bugs in FFVI like that--did you know that Rippler and other status swap abilities can swap Interceptor status? He'll never show up in battle again if this happens.

I couldn't get through the PS version past the very first part. The load times, terrible sound... it just killed it for me. Oddly enough, I do stil keep the Anthology disk set somewhere safe, even though I also don' play FFV for the same reason. *shrug*

Yanno, I never could get myself to get the minimal ammount of characters. I just have to have Terra, and if I have to have Terra then I have to get Locke and Relm and Mog and then I might as well get everyone or else I feel like I've wasted a game. xp
In short, I suppose I wouldn't know about the lack of interaction and such, as I've never done it before.

I had no idea..! I'm sure they'll have fixed that, but I will try it on my rom >.>

Yep, and it was so huge the programmers had absolutely no idea how to fix it. I will be floored if they've managed to make Vanish+spell work the way they intended, which is something that's slipping my memory at the moment domokun

Well, that sucks. And it might explain what happened to me a few games ago. Interceptor just never appeared.

Well, you start with Celes, right? And then right after that, I bet you got Sabin. Remember, getting that stupid kid out from the building? I hated that part. Anyways, right after Sabin you run into "Gerad."

Honestly, who does he think he's fooling?

You run into Edgar and Celes freaks out with the whole "OMG you're not dead!!!" type things. Sabin says nothing. Didn't that ever strike you as odd? He hasn't seen his brother in a year and has probably come to the conclusion that he's dead. They are reunited... and he doesn't react. AT ALL.

It wouldn't even be that hard to fix--change some of the text boxes, move a sprite here, a sprite there, and presto! A reaction!

Another interesting thing to watch for is the way certain characters react to certain things. My favorite character is Gogo, so she's always in my party from the moment I get her. But she's not got a backstory, so she doesn't say anything or react all that much. She's optional. Umaro doesn't say anything either, and Shadow and Mog are technically optional too. Taking a party like this to any important event yields odd results, since Gogo and Umaro won't say anything. Shadow is naturally not very talkative, and Mog doesn't really have a personality. The final battle, for instance? When everyone is saying what they're fighting for? Gogo steps forwards with eveyone else, but doesn't say anything. I don't know if this is necessarily good or bad, but it's interesting to watch for.

Oh, that's what you mean! xp
I suppose I'm slow.
Yes, reaction of that sort would be appreciated.
And while I'm thinking of it, Terra doesn't have any reaction to Kefka or Gestahl when she, erm... re-meets them. None at all. I always thought that was odd...

That's really, really odd.
It's like scenes were cut from the game for space or something...
Though, it's not like a block or two of text takes up a whole lot of room, least of all in comparision to sound bytes, coding for levels, battles, etc.
Weird sad

I'm the same way. The extra stuff added to the PS game just isn't worth the loading times. And since I tend to go into the menu and save my game often....the loading's just unbearable.

On another note, I hope they fix the glitches that were caused by Relm's Sketch ability. After hearing about all of things it could do to your game, I seemed to just avoid this technique.

The keywords there are "could do." It was only a very small percentage of the very early games that actually glitched, and generally you were fine as long as you didn't save afterwards. I found it roughly comparable to the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time bugs in the 1.0 version (including the swordless Link trick)--you might get through the whole game and never see it, but it can screw you over.

I never Sketch anyways, though. It's a mostly useless ability... anything you copy has the monster's element and will either A) miss B) heal them or C) actually do something. C doesn't happen very often.
