An extensive forest covers much of the fire country. Perfect
for jumping from in an endless animation loop while talking.

But in all seriousness, there are dangerous thing in the forest.
Wild animals, bandits, rogue ninja, and worse lurk their depths.

Note: This is outside the Hidden Leaf Village.

---Shadow Neck Bind technique: 1,800 words---
Shikaru traveled alone to the edge of the forest. It was later in the afternoon, almost twilight, though there was still enough light in the sky for Shikaru to practice his jutsu. Though, he hoped, it would stay this way in time for him to practice it a bit. He traveled through the dense grove of trees, sinally finding his practice area. Though the area one could hear deer trotting and there was plenty of light and trees for shadows. he controlled his puppet to move to the center of the clearing and plant itself. As it did so, Shikaru locked its jints in place to keep it on its feet as he severed connection. Moving to the edge of the clearing, Shikaru turned and faced his puppet, imaging it as an opponent, though a stationary one. He made one hand seal, his shadow crossed the field at a steady pace, joining that with the puppet's. Moving his hand, his puppet mimicked the motion. Nodding in approval, Shikaru released the shadow and dropped the hand seal. Taking a knee, he began to think about the jutsu and how it would be accomplished, it wouldn't be exactly the same as his Shadow Imitation technique, though derived from it and similar to it. He thought for a good 15 minutes, preparing himself to learn the jutsu. Finally, he rose and faced his puppet. Forming a few extra hand seals before landing on the Rat seal again, his shadow extended across the field slower tan normal, as this shadow would be more corporeal than his normal intangible Shadow Imitation. His shadow stretched further and further, finally joining with the puppet's This time, however, the shadow began stretching up the puppet's legs, creeping slowly, a few tendrils forming fingers, as if the puppet's legs were being grasped by a shadowy claw-like hand. The hadn stretched upwards, stopping around the puppet's waist before suddenly releasing. Shikaru fell backward, his head throbbing slightly with the amount of concentration it was taking to control the jutsu. He sat for a moment, waiting for the throbbing to subside a little before having another attempt.

Shikaru sat back for a moment, staring into the face of his puppet. IN his head he went through everything he had read, studied, observed, and otherwise knew about the Shadow Neck Bind technique. His father had performed it once in front of him, on a training dummy of course. The pure, raw power the shadows pulsated with, was almost hypnotizing to the young boy. He remembered it as well as he could. As the reminesced, he lay back and placed his head on his arms, staring into the darkening sky, the cool air soothing his sweaty and throbbing head. he sighed into the cool, calm air and closed his eyes. He mused to himself as he relaxed and unwound from his stress. He mused on the fight between himself and the smoking sensei. He knew he could have done better, should have done better. Yet he was made to look like a fool compared to him, something Shikaru was not used to. He had used every technique he knew to get past the barrer. But because the only techniques he knew were utterly usless, and his puppetry even more so, he could not help but feel worthless. He mused on these points continuously, wondering if it would be better if he weren;t a shinobi. At least he couldn't get in anyone's way, and everyone around him would probbaly thank him for it. When he opened his eyes, the sky had darkened consiterably, leaving only about an hours worth of daylight in the sky. Leaning back and bracing his arms, he flipped back onto his feet, soemthing he did when not many others were around. he studied his puppet again for a long time before attempting his jutsu again. He formed the first hand seal, focusing on the reach and speed of the reach of his shadow, as most opponents could see a shadow creeping oddly on the ground. Well, the smarter opponents at least, making him think, for one errant minute, how his clan managed to get to be so strong and reknowned for using an easily noticeable style. Either most were stupid.....
He shook his head, clearing his thoughts as he formed the first and seal aain, then the second, this time adding chakra to his shadow, tryign to obtain the strength and power vibe from the jutsu. He formed the thirs hand seal, focusing on Mimic. He watched his shadow dart forward, faster though still not fast enough for is taste. He observed his shadow joining with his puppet's, which would lock any moving shinobi in place if they were ensnared in the trap. Next, the shadow started making its way up the puppet's legs, several tendrils separating from the shadow. These tendrils moved into their own groups, forming visible claw-like shapes, before finally ettling down into the shape of a hand. This hand of shadows moved slowly upward, past the legs, then past the waist, over the cest and up the arms and shoulder. Reaching the puppet's neck, the hand visibly tightened, giving the appearance of a shadowy man suffocating the life out of someone. Te hand stayed there for about five seconds, tightening, before slipping slowly, slowly away, back along the path it had wrought before. Barely conscious fof the pain in his forehead, Shikaru focused, willing more energ and chakra into the shadowy hand. The hand fluttered for a moment, moving slowly back up to the puppet;s neck. It reached out and strangled again, tightening, squeezing, suffocating, to a living opponent it would be killing. Slowly, slowly, the hand slipped away again. As it did this, Shikaru forced more chakra into it, the pounding of what could have been several bass drums between his temples compounding the exhaustion his body was feeling. As he concentrated, the hand went for the throat again, lasting another five seconds. As if a rubber band had snapped too far and recoiling, the shadow loosened its grip and Shikaru fell back onto his butt, his head throbbing painfully and his body punishing him for pushing too hard. "I was close' he told himself, chanting it in his mind over the beating of his pulse against his temples. He placed his fingertips against the side of his head and rubbed gently, trying to ease the headache away. He had gotten headaches like these before, when working on difficult problems, when pulling all-night reading/study/planning sessions, and during the week it had taken him to learn his Clan's Shadow Posession Jutsu. Sighing to himself, though this sounded like more of a moan than a sigh, he fell backwards and closed his eyes again, though this time he made sire to open them periodically, hoping his headache would dissipate in time to get at least one more attempt in before heading him to work on his puppet. He wondered vaguely if he had any chakra pills or aspirin in his multi-scroll, or if there were any good herbs around. At this point in time, though, he could barely care.

Shikaru opened his eyes as the pounging tempo in his head started subsiding rapidly. Sitting up, he looked into the twilight of the clearing. Though, due to the shade, this area would get darker faster than the main village would, he judged that he could quite possibly fit in one more attempt before it would be too dark to use his shadow. Sitting up and onto his knee, he shook his head to rid himself of any remaining traces of fatigue. He could feel himself running low on chakra, solidifying his thoughts that this would be his final attempt. He looked at his puppet, then the ground, figuring the distand, and the area of his shadows. Under normal conditions he may not have this much room or shadow, but these variables could either hinder ot help him. As it was close to evening, he had multiple shadows, though the distance was pretty great. He began feeling for his chakra, preparing this attempt. He formed the first and seal, channeling his chakra into the shadows, hoping to accumulate enough shadow to snare his puppet and complete the jutsu. He formed the second, focusing on the image of the shadows rising up an opponent;s neck, alongside his fathers...
Third had seal, he held it while the shadws began stretching, faster than last time. As if following a pre-guided course, the sadows found the puppet quicker than last time and began to rise up the puppets body. It rose, trapping his legs, then chesst, hands, arms, shoulder, then finally, the neck. Slowly, painfully, the shadow began stragulating the puppet, the hand turning ever so slightly putting pressure on the neck. As he watched, he could see that, if focusing hard, enough, he could put more pressure on certain areas of the neck, as evidenced by the shadow;s moving. He manipulated the shadow so that more pressure would be put on the jugular veins, which would cause slowing of blood and axygen to the brain, leading to blackout befre death if the shadow were in place long enough. he held the hand there, noting a less trobbing in his head at controlling the shadow hand. Still annoying, but lesser than previous attempts. He closed his eyes, remembering the feelign of performing this jutsu, throbbing headache and all. When he opened his eyes, he was disappointed to see that the shadow had slipped down the puppets body, releasing its strangle hold on the puppet, which could be an enemy in his mind. He focused again, feeling his chakra drain with each passing moment. Fnially, the hand was back at its resting place on his puppet;s throat. Slowly, slowly, painfully slowly the hand constricted over the jugular veins. Then, without warning, a loud CRACK split the silence of the clearing. This crack resounded, snapping Shikaru out of his daze and releasing a bit of his hold on the puppet, which had lasted well past a minute this time, to notice that his puppets neck had cracked across where one of the jugular veins would be. Taking this as a sign from above, or below, or wherever a sign like that would come from, he released he jutsu and watche dhis shadow recoil back to his body. He took a knee and stretched his fingers, twitching them as strings formed to his puppet. The puppet uprooted itself from it standing position, loosened its joints, and walked to Shikaru. He released the strings technique as he observed the damage. It wasn't a deep split, but it would need repairing before the mission tomorrow. Knowing he would be awake long into the night working on this, he controlled the puppet to fold up and fit onto his shoulder. he sighed and closed his eyes, the head still throbbing slightly. According ot his calculations, if he used no other chakra, he could use the Shadow Neck Bind a grand total of 5 times before being near death. Meaning, in his mind, that this would only be an end game technique, and only when he was positive it would hold. Sighing, he stood and stumpled away, wondering if he had any aspirin at home in his room.

Shikaru headed out to the forest, his old training ground, Where his father had tught him to utilize his Shadow Release style. He walked around aimlessly, thinking. This would be hard, but it was well worth it. He moved to his training area, a special area belonging to the Nara clansmen deer herders. He found the place: a smaller tree in the area near his clan's sign. He kneeled and dug a hole, about seven inches deep. He removed his kunai pouch containing his water summoning scroll and puppet scroll and placed it in the hole, burying it. Taking out his final kunai, he carved his clan;s sign into the wood, followed by a kanji for "water". Flipping the kunai, he plunged it deep into the earth in front of the hole, leaving the ring barely visible. He stood and walked away.

Utilizing the shadows, Kagekarasu covered the forest in a matter of minutes, all without even arousing attention of even the wildlife. He knet on a tree branch and looked around, his eyes raidly adjusting to the dark. He knew he had placed them....there.
He jumped and landed with only the slightest noise. There were the symbols, and the kunai, where he had lft them. Using these, he began to dig, until he uncovered his treasure.
Hurrying to cover his tracks, he returned the soil to its position and set the top plantlife back in its hole. H estabbed the kunai down into its spot and left quickly, pocketing the dirty scrolls in his cloak.

Kagekarasu hopped through the trees stealthily, careful that the gentle thump of his boots made no noise as he jumped from limb to limb of the trees. He was heading, on instinct, towards his favorite training area, but caught himself short. He couldn't go back there, as his family knew about it and there was a chance he would be caught. Forcing himself to stop sadly, he turned and headed left in the forest, still careful to be stealthy. He searched for a good 20 minutes before coming upon a large clearing with plenty of both sun and shadows form the surrounding trees. There were remnants of what appeared to be a bandit camp strewn about, a few discarded coins and clothes strewn about the area. Normal bandits, a breeze for him to take care of. He sat in the middle of the clearing and opened the scroll containing his Clan histories. Since he no longer had access to his clan's library, he was forcing himself to learn by reverse engineering the techniques. He sat and read through the more estoric techniques, before finding the next one in his list: the Shadow Sewing technique. He read through this carefully, looking for any clues that might help him figure out the key to this jutsu. Sadly for him, there were few ideas, other than it emphasized the shadow taking on real form and can be used to restrain a target with faster speed than the Shadow Imitation. On a brighter note, in exchange for more chakra, the Shadow Sewing technique, once a victim is ensnared, could revert back to the simple Shadow Imitation technique. Shrugging, he stood and stepped back, taking aim at a tree a good ten feet away. Forming the seal for shadow immitation, he added a second seal, the seal for the Shadow Suffocation Technique, on top of that. On top of that, he added the third seal, intended to focus the chakra into the shadows to bring the shadows to a physical form. It seemed to work, for a whole second. The shadows made to jump up, but instead merely stretched forth longer, easily ensnaring the tree thanks to the shadows around him. Sighing, he sat and read through the scroll again. After ten minutes, he had at least somewhat figured out how he would attempt to control his shadow in this manner. He would form the seals, but attempt to control the shadows around him like puppet strings to form the threads. This might be complicated, but since there was no other ideas as of yet in his head, he would attempt it. He stood again and moved back, forming the hand seals for the technique again. He focused his chakra, before refining it into sharp threads. The idea was sound, but the results were not. His shadow stretched out, and took on thread-like tendencies, but either could not or would not become solid and rise form the ground as the jutsu depicted. By this point at learning and trying anything Kagekarasu was almost used to failure, so he sat back down in front of the scroll and began to think over what he had read about the technique.

Sighing, Kagekarasu took up the scroll and replaced it in his pouch. Much as He needed to learn some newer jutsus, he decided focusing on the puppet would tae some time. Quietly, he backtracked through the forest and headed for HQ.

It's Just beneath the skin...

As Ichi and Kiko left the boat they entered the Forest that was inside the land of fire; after all that was where the boat from Mist ended with; so it looked like they just had to wonder around... and Lu would find them when he wanted too; At least.... thats what Kirabachi said; and Ichi had no other option then to trust what the Anbu had told him; hopefully the Anbu had been telling the truth and Ichi and Kiko were not simply waisting time when they could be looking for another clue to finding Lu. "S-so.... w-what s-should we do?" Ichi asked looking back at Kiko.

User Image"Whazaa?" came the reply, and the sleepy shuffles behind him grew softer. "More...sleep?" she posed, blinking quietly. "You..too...Ichite-ru....been through a lot today." Kiko yawned, revealing all of her teeth in the yawn as she tilted her head back. She clung to Ichi, still half asleep, and was walking with blankets in her arms.

Ichi looked down at Kiko and sighed slightly; he didn't want to sleep; he couldn't not now; but then again it was clear that Kiko was going to need sleep in order to be able to do anything. "...f-fine" Ichi said with a sigh. Its not like looking for Lu was going to be any help; after all the Anbu said that the Man would find HIM when he wanted to; so it didn't matter if Ichi wanted to find him now or later. He would find him when Lu WANTED him to find him.

User Image"Mmn..." Kiko voiced her opinion with a happy smile, relaxing against him. "You feel nice...it's warmer here...." she said sluggishly, pulling the blanket around her shoulders before moving the tent from its scroll. Kiko climbed in after she'd set it up, tugging at Ichi to at least come in the tent.

Ichi watched as Kiko removed the tent from the scroll that she carried with her; he actually liked sleeping outside more then in a tent; it just felt odd. "I-its not that... I-its w-warm..." Ichi said looking over at Kiko. "I-its J-just.... not cold" He said smiling slightly but shaking his head slightly as Kiko tried to pull him into the tent. "N-no t-thanks" Ichi said still shaking his head slightly to the side. "I w-would rather j-just s-stay out here" Ichi said looking at Kiko. He would rather wait outside in Case Lu decided to show up; that, and there was no way he was going to be able to get to sleep now.

User Image Some method to Kiko's deranged mind led her to believe that if Ichi wouldn't sleep in the tent, she wouldn't either, so she drug a sleeping blanket out for them-Ichi could sit on hers while she slept-it was big enough and she packed blankets for a reason. A couple more quiet shuffles and Kiko curled up next to Ichi, wearing her hoodie and shorts like usual-the skirt and other objects were on top of her boots. a fishnet glove was tossed to the side, as well as another, before she put her back to Ichi-a sign of trust between them.

Ichi smiled slightly as Kiko fell asleep. "G-good night" Ichi said smiling slightly, even though Ichi knew that it wasn't really night so there wasn't really any need for Ichi to say 'good night' to her but it was just a saying. Ichi sat down and rested his back against a tree' it seemed that people had the tendency to sneak up on them when they where in the forest; both Li and Kirabachi had snuck up on Ichi; and Kirabachi even managed to get past Kiko's sense of smell. The boy let out a slight sigh; he kind of wanted to go to sleep but he was to much doing through his head; who was Lu; how long till he would find the two of them; what kind of training would be doing, and that was only if he even GOT training by him. But no matter what it was; it was going to be worth it if it meant no more having to worry about Shukaku breaking out at all times.
