As for classifying "gay music" it doesn't matter if it's stereotypical and cliché, in my mind it just has to be classically identifiable. It's fun listening to those songs or torturing people with them, it's even better when its old enough that everyone knows the words. It's all in the camp value.
As for my own personal taste, I go for alternative and rock any day, maybe some Dropkick Murphys in there too. The fact is, old music can still rock my socks, which is more than I can say for a lot of forgettable one-hit wonders of the past few years.
