As a mare generally found enjoying the water, it was not so surprising to see Kailani'ki at the edge of the lake, her head dipped far enough to observe what little life remained in the slushy conquests of winter. Eyes watched thoughtfully as something wiggled--just what it was, she wasn't sure she wanted to know--across the surface along with a few more baby wiggly somethings. A puff of air left her nose, mussing their trek and sending the wigglers in many directions. As if a scientist, she narrowed her gaze to the sight, observing and hypothesizing until the real reason she had bent to the water in the first place came flooding back.

Lapping at her chops, she willed her scratchy throat to stop complaining. This particular bit of liquid didn't seem all that appetizing now.

"Too bad," she muttered under her breath, though her voice didn't sound all that disappointed. There was hardly a time she stepped away from the water and there would be plenty of opportunities to take a drink in the near future. She clicked her tongue, looking up to the blustery winter sky. Maybe if she wandered away from the water a bit more, she would be more likely to run into her adventuring son. The thought was alluring, but just not enough.

The thirst that drew the white stallion towards the water was not a particularly strong one nor was it a particularly unusual one. In fact he would go as far to call it 'common' at this point. It generally came after one of his little trysts and it served as an excuse to slip away from whomever he found himself with. On occasion he imagined the looks on their faces when they realized that he would never be coming back from the watering ground of his choosing. At those times he would often grin smugly to himself and then think nothing else of the subject.

Today was one such occasion. The girl he had left hadn't been unfortunate in the looks department by any stretch of the imagination. However, there was no way that she was going to saddle him with that old 'oh you must love, that proved it' routine. He wouldn't be trapped so easily and their was nothing she could offer him to make him stay. So, he moved towards the nearest body of water to quench his thirst pausing only at the sight of another already standing near the lake's edge.

"A ghost?" He muttered to himself taking note that this creature had a very similar color to the mare he had just left. "No...just a coincidence." He shook his head lightly after the slight scare. He had thought that the coat color had been rare, but it seemed now that it was every bit as common as that girl.

He couldn't quite explain the sudden desire that filled his body. He didn't need to anyway. All he knew was that he would get his revenge on this mare for looking like another and startling him. His game started with a word and that word was: "Hello!"

Oblivious to the predicament she had somehow gotten herself into, the mare continued to watch the swell of what few clouds there were today. Watching the sky was hardly as interesting during these chilly months, at least when there was no storm brewing on the horizon. It was too bad.

Something caught in the corner of her eye as she turned to the water, causing her to hesitate and look back again. Rarely would she consider herself one to startle easily. And upon noticing the familiar equine form of the pale flash that had caught her attention, she couldn't keep from smiling and banishing any ill or nervous thoughts.

"Hello," she greeted in return, sensing no hostility in the friendly word. Her long tail grazed the surface of the water as she turned her body to him.

"I didn't notice you there. Did you just come from the trees?"

Conversation tended to come easy for her. The idea of having someone to talk to after quite a long time was refreshing. White hooves, stained with a bit of river bank sludge, moved her closer to her new company without worry.

"Ah! My my my, you're quite observant aren't you?" The casual, chipper tone in his voice came as naturally to him as swimming did to a fish. It came so naturally that even he had a hard time telling when his words were devoid of meaning. "My apologies for appearing so suddenly of course." A welcoming smile was set firmly as he spoke continuing on his way towards the mare and the water. He made no comment on the precise location of where he had come from. It simply didn't matter for her to know. The entire point of this was to flatter her and if he were to tell her of the reality of the situation she may very well clam up.

"Tell me, observant one, how's the water today?" He paused for the briefest of moments before deciding what to call her. He hoped it would be enough of a hint that he was 'playfully' requesting her name. Unless, of course, she was really as thick as he suspected she may very well be.

He came to a stop not far from the mare and quickly looked her over while awaiting an answer. She wasn't winning any beauty contests if he were the judge. It was a shame for one's mane to be cut so short, long was better in his opinion. And her coat was far to cluttered. He smirked inwardly pitying any stallion that had to settle on such a creature.

When they were close enough to converse normally, the mare let herself relax, turning her head away. "Observant?" she let out a small laugh, but her smile never wavered. It was obvious she still thought this meeting was all in fun. "I'm glad for company," she assured, not wanting this stallion to feel he had startled her or anything of the sort.

Staring out over the water for a moment, she found herself momentarily distracted, as she often was. The littlest things caught her curious eye. Learning was a highlight in her day.

"The water..." she began, coming back to the conversation with a slight shake of her mane. "Well, on this side of the bank it seems to be a bit murky." At first she didn't mention the little wiggly creatures she had spotted swimming near the surface. If he tried to take a drink, she would surely warn him then.

"Oh, I'm Kailani'ki, by the way." Blue eyes finally returned to the other, gazing over him with much less mental disdain than he. In fact, there was hardly a thought past 'he seems to take care of himself.'

A corner of his mouth twitched upwards slightly to form a smirk. She was glad for the company. How cute. A malicious spark flickered across his eyes for the briefest of seconds before vanishing behind Farren's charming mask. It would spoil the fun if she caught on too soon.

"Ah, it's murky you say?" He said flippantly before glancing in the direction of the water's edge. It looked just fine to him. He fought back the displeased grumble that wanted to creep up from his throat. He wanted a drink but he was not desperate enough for the drink to stop his little charade. Taking one anyway would show that he did not trust her and that would do him no good at all.

He forced his gaze away from the water with a deeper breath than was really necessary. This mare had officially caused him trouble with her answer, what a shame for her. "Well then, Kailani'ki..." He paused on the the name. It felt like rocks tumbling around in his mouth, not pleasant at all but he didn't let it show. Instead he turned his head down slightly and peered at her with brows slightly raised and a smile on his lips. "I suppose I shan't be drinking here. Perhaps you know of a better place to take a drink?"
