Soro sent his sons off to keep the girls busy, telling them to play with his sisters and practice there hunting. Lore was off doing her herbalism, escaping his attention, not that he was in the mood to give her any. No. For the past few days, his attention had been elsewhere, and with Lore gone, he could put his plans into motion. While he was usually aggravated when the herbalist left, it was the perfect window, and he let the children stay in the den, out of the way, telling the boys to work on their hunting. His sons would listen, and keep the girls busy. None of them would follow.
This left Lulu, the little cub he took from the weak paws of her mother. Lesa, “little bone”, the cub he took on a whim. He had had no plans for her at the time. The satisfaction of gaining her and crushing Lulu’s mother had been the reward, but ever since he had cubs, her use came to him.
Now Lulu was a strong female, and he had seen her take care of his cubs when Lorelei wanted nothing with them. She obeyed, kept her head down, and he had watched her grow up. Her color was white and reminded him of a skull, which was fetching. She would do well to serve him now that she was a mature female.
“Lesa, I have watched you grow from a small cub to the adult you are today. You have served me well.” She did as a female should. “You take care of my children well when Lorelei abandons them, have hunted when needed, and have been a strong female member in my family.” He walked with her along the river’s edge, making their way through the jungle and away from the den. “Now look at you. A young female, but mature.” He let his eyes linger on her body as they walked before he smiled at looked her in the eye. “Do you appreciate what I have done for you? How I have kept you safe from harm and let you live in my den by making you a member of my family? If I had not, one of the other males would have taken you. They would have probably killed you before you grew, killed your mother, and even your siblings that day I found out about them, but I have never done that. I have never sought them out, because you have been a good to me. ” She had done as he asked.

 Lulu had grown. She felt so big compared to the tiny cubs she called her siblings. She hadn't really noticed the change until Lore said something to her and it dawned, that she had aged. Had it been so long since she had snuggled with her real mothers, her brother who was white as bone? Bone. She hated bones.
She had gotten up and followed like she was supposed to. She never dared to deny Soro of anything. She had seen at an early age what he could do. Poor Moray, she had healed well. Lulu had spied her drinking, with pink scars lacing her beautiful pale back. It simply madened her to think of his cruelty to her.
It made her pleased though. Soro knew nothing about her at all. Moray was not her mother, but her mothers partner. Even this little tid bit of information kept from him was comforting. The fact her brother was completly white, was another.
"How could I not? They are just babies." She said simply. No big deal. She wasn't going to let them sit and suffer because Lore couldn't bear to be by them. "They behave themselves most of the time. So it's not hard." She added. She sensed him looking at her a few times and felt a bit odd about it, blinking her pink eyes. "I behaved so that you would keep your promise to me. That you would not make me show where my brother was. Or my mother." She gazed at the water absently.

Hmm. While she was smart enough to know that if she screwed up, he would not hurt her family, he still wished she was more accepting to him. No matter. It would not be the first time a female wasn’t warm to him, and at least Lulu was young and more obedient that Lorelei had been when he first met her. Of course, Lulu had never been in the war, fighting, and had little experience. Hunting was one thing, but he knew she had not fought for her life before or for her protection.
“And I have not gone after then. You have been good. You listen. As long as you listen, they are safe. Just as I let Lorelei continue with her herbalism, I let your family live. But you must understand that you are my family now. Since I took you, you are mine, just as Lorelei is. Do you understand this?” He didn’t want to push this on her, but he felt being more direct was simpler.
He flicked his tail, agitated for a moment but calming down. “Lulu, you are important to me. You have grown, and I have noticed. Lorelei is lower in rank than you are, do you know this? Her attitude and her lack of attention to her cubs has dropped her down. She isn’t useful. She doesn’t do as she is told. She is lazy and wicked. But you….” He looked at her against, and for a brief moment, let his side brush her fur as they walked. “…listen, take care to follow my words, and pay attention to the cubs. It’s why you are a more valuable prize to me. I have given my time and care in trying to make Lorelei better, but you have seen her. She only cares for herself. That is why you are better, and why you are going to be the top female in the den. She will follow your orders now when I am not around and when my sons are gone. You are a better female than she is. My daughters can look up to how you behave. ”
"How does that sound, Lesu? This gift and honor I am giving you."

She walked along, staring at anything but him. She knew the rules. She would do anything to protect her family. Though by now, Shai was long gone, which would eventually break Lulu's heart. Knowing her only sibling grew up without her. She would be crushed. But she would not know, not until her mothers could talk to her face to face. She nodded. "Yes... I understand. I am no one else's." She said, blinking. She hated talking to him like this, but she was so used to it-it was sickening but so familiar.
"Lorelei? Lower than me? I don't understand. She'd older.. and she's a mom..." She said, looking a bit confused but his words helped to clear it up. Obedient females were better than ones who misbehaved? But, Lulu liked Lore. She was like a mother. She could never see her as lower ranking. "I-I will always take care of the cubs. They are my family. I have too take care of them. I would never sit and let them suffer... or be alone or sad. It's my job as a-as a big sister!" She said.
"It is a gift and an honor... but won't Lore be upset? She will react badly to it... I know her. She won't like it one bit and I don't want her upset with me..." But she didn't want him upset with her either. "-she may ignore the cubs more to get back at you... I can only keep their attention for so long, they sometimes feel sad about how she treats them..."

He considered this. As it was, Lorelei might attack Lulu for what she was doing, even if she knew it was Soro’s bidding. He could not look after her all the time, and it would be best that Lulu was armed in some way against her. It would also make Lorelei think that she could abandon the children and plan an escape. There had to be something to keep her here.
Maybe the same thing that kept her here would work.
If Lulu was burdened with child, Lorelei would not attack her. She would not risk injuring the girl and her cubs, and if Lulu was heavy with children, she might need a herbalist to make sure she had the children without risk to her life. Even if Lulu was healthy, she was young, and Soro could plant the idea in Lorelei’s head that without her supervision, Lulu would die without her. It would keep them both here, and both handling his children. By the time the second litter came, his first litter would be grown enough to protect the new litter. He would have his army to back him up against the two women, and once the children were weaned, it would not matter if they tried and run off. He would send his children after them both. He would keep them both in line. Lorelei was weak, beaten, and Lulu was young. They would be no match.
“Then we will wait. It would be wrong for us to tell her and have Lorelei feel betrayed and take it out on the children. We wouldn’t want the children hurt because of you growing in power. Not until they are stronger. Let us keep it between us. A secret. You will know who has the power in the den, and if you ever need it, I will give it to you. We will be kind to our dear Lorelei, but know it here that you are my first prize before her now. You have proven yourself to me, Lulu, and now you will be my mate. You deserve it, and you are right, she is a mother. For you to be stronger, to be a female and fulfill your full duty and power, I will make you a part of my family too. I know you will take great care in our children, but remember. This is between us. If you tell Lorelei, she will hurt the children and she might even hurt you. We would not want that to happen and hurt her feelings. If she ever hurt you in that way, I would have to hurt her.” He created his trap. If Lulu was to say anything to Lorelei, who could hurt or even kill his new mate, then he would hurt Lorelei. He also used Lulu’s care for the children against her to say that if Lulu said anything about it, sought her console to tell Lorelei about being his new mate, then she might kill the children or hurt them. If Lulu were to be quite about this and obey, then Lorelei and the children would be safe. Lulu’s family would be safe too. The pawns all worked and he grinned.
He felt cocky with his new power, and leaning over, he licked her ear. It was a taste that he was serious about his intentions for her. Lulu had been his, and now that she was old enough, he wanted to try for more sons. He wanted more pawns to use, and she would give more.

Lulu hated to even think of betraying her only friend. Lore had been there, she hadn't been the most motherly of lionesses but, she was apart of how Lulu was now. She bit her lip, not wanting to disobey but she would be betraying the only part of her childhood and her freedom. She sniffed. "M-Mates?" She stammered, not really familiar with speaking the words. She knew of what it was, and sort of how it worked. She knew it ended with cubs and that sort of frightened her. She wasn't really ready.
"I can't tell anyone? But... won't it be obvious when-when-when my belly gets bigger?" She asked, starting to get a bit worried and upset. She didn't want to lie to anyone. She most of all didn't want to be his mate. she hated him. Hated the smell of him and the sound of his voice. He had taken away everything she had ever had and given her what he wanted her to have. She hated it. She hated him but feared him.
He started to groom her and she was uncomfortable at this action. He hadn't ever done something like that. Ever. "I-I..." She couldn't find any words to speak. "I don't know if I will be a good mother. With the cubs I am like, their sister... it's different when your a mom... " She said. And she had grown up with out one. And if she gave birth to cubs... she wanted her Mothers there for it. "And won't i need a midwife?" She asked, knowing that that was Moray's rank.

“When you show signs, then there will be no need to tell. They will know, and they will know you are mine. You don’t have to tell anyone anything. It’s none of their business, and Lorelei will understand. She is mine after all, and she knows that what I want to do and what I choose is for the best. She will not object when the time comes. For now, there is no need to worry until you show signs. If you are nervous, do not be.” Soro spoke as if his word was a command, and simply saying not to feel this way or that was all that was needed for it to happen. “If you need a midwife, I will get someone from the pride to help you when the time comes. I will provide for you, just as I watched over Lorelei when she wanted my help.” This had been rare, as she did everything herself and would rather drag herself from place to place than accept his paw.
“You will make a fine mother. It is in your nature. You are born for it, and you will be a good mate if you continue to follow my orders. I can be nice, Lesa, if you are obedient. I can be nice to everyone if they only listen to me. If you doubt this, it is only because Lorelei does not follow what I say, and so I cannot be nice. She cause her own pain. If you are good, I will treat you well. You know this. I have not done anything to you since you have done all that I have asked you. Just keep doing as I say.” He brushed against her once more to demonstrate that this was a gesture that he could be her mate and to not be afraid. Soro was not a hard lion if he didn’t have to be. If she was submissive, he preferred it. It meant less work fighting her down. It had been hard to fight Lorelei down to the ground to have children. He wanted a easy mate for once. It was why he was going for someone young, inexperienced, and afraid.
“For now, all you must do is listen to me as you always have. Then we wait, and we will see how good of a mother you will be.” If she had cubs, if she delivered them well, if they had sons, and if she took care of them until they were old enough. If she should fail in these, then she failed as his mate. Then there was no use for her.

Lulu listened to his words in horror. She didn't want to be his mate. She didn't love him. She didn't ever want too. Her mothers had made it clear that love was what made mates-and he did not love her. He loved no one but his bones and his sons. "But I am nervous Soro... I've very nervous!" She said quietly, blinking her pink eyes.
She was sort of freaked out by his compliments. Was he just trying to woo her? Naturally. "I have always been good, haven't I?" She asked, though she knew that if it hadn't been for his threatening of her family, she'd have disobeyed him to the brink of death. "Wait... how long do I have to wait? I don't know anything about cubs... I-I don't know anything at all. I just-I..." She didn't know what to say.
"I don't know how... to do anything like that. Do you think Lore will help me a little..."

He brushed off her nervousness as insignificant and silly. It was of little concern on how she felt on the matter, as he already decided it would be done with or without her cooperation. The hope for the later was only there to make things easier on him, not her. Still, her little fluttering voice tangled in nervousness made him give it a bit of consideration. She would be his mate, and he would like, for once, not to have a difficult one.
“When the time comes, Lore will help you. If you should need more, I can fetch you a midwife to stay for a time if she isn’t already taken by another male, but only to help you out for a short time. I do not need more females in our den with the kids about and Lore already there. It’s a den for family after all.”
He turned, circling about her before brushing her side. Ever since he had to teach the kids, he felt more playful. The idea of more sons was something to make him excited. The work of training, not to much. “Do not worry. Females like you have been doing this all their lives. It’s what you are built for. You are being silly and weak for thinking like this. Let me handle my part, and your part will come naturally. We wait for as many months as it takes for you to show to see if it was successful. ” He looked up and turned about.
“Come. It is getting late. I will make sure you get well fed come dinner time. ” He needed to make her strong for childbirth.

Lulu could see there was no easy way of getting out of this. She was like a fly trapped in his web. She simply nodded, knowing full well he wouldn't bring her Moray, who was a midwife. She felt trembly at his words. She was going to be nervous and afraid. She hadn't been raised to know how a good mother was. She just sort of worked with what she had.
And she really had no clue how babies came into the world anyway.
She lifted her head and nodded to his suggestion of them returning. She had a lot to think about and needed to snuggle with a cub for a while. To get her thoughts back. She started to head back to the den, eyes staring blankly into the distance.
