Deep in a forgotten forest in Japan, at the foot of glorious Mt. Fuji, there lies a hidden, beautiful expanse of water known as Lake Moriyama. It's mirror-like, unbroken surface shimmers like a celestial body when the sun and moonlight hits it. Surrounded by beautiful, thriving nature, Lake Moriyama is filled with the near silence of the natural world. The simple sounds if insects communicating, small little waves lapping at the unlittered shore...Moriyama was true natural beauty. But, of course, a place like that has to have myths surrounding it. It is said that the lake is home to magical creatures with the power to grant three wishes, like genies. Some say that they are little silver fish, or white will-o-th'-wisps that float over the surface of the lake at midnight. Whatever it is, people travel to Lake Moriyama nearly every day to try and find this magic. Fisherman sit in the middle of the lake for hours trying to catch the elusive silver fish, keeping watch for gold spheres floating over the surface of the lake.
Little do they know, there is no such thing as wish-granting fish that live in the lake- but there is...something living in the lake. Not a fish, not a will-o'-th'-wisp...mermaids. Playful, beautiful half-fish half-human creatures that spend their days playing in the water and singing to the surrounding nature. Sometimes you can hear their beautiful voices echoing through the forest during the time before the sun rises. One day, yet another fisherman- well, a young fisherman apprentice- decied to set out and try to find the magic hiding in Lake Moriyama. He boated out to the middle of the lake, casted out his line, and waited. He was a down on his luck man, and wanted to find the wish-granting entity to help his impoverished family.
At about that time, a young merman, Minako, was swimming by quickly and racing the fish from one end of the lake to the other. Minako made it to the middle of the lake when he cried out in pain, something sharp snagging him by his mouth. A fishing hook in his cheek. The fisherman, excited, reeled the merman to the surface, greatly shocked by what he saw. But nontheless, he managed to find a wish granting merman! And he quickly rattled off his three wishes, much to Minako's confusion. The young merman couldn't grant wishes...But the fisherman refused to take the hook out of his cheek until he did so...

Quiet. Serene. The beautiful scenery surrounding Lake Moriyama was dead silent; not even the water lapping at the surface seemed to make any noise. Crickets would normally be singing at this hour, but not around this lake. Something about the area just made everything...peaceful.
Right beneath the surface of the silvery water, soft melodic voices rang out in happy laughter. The voices were trapped into bubbles that attempted to float to the surface, but they never seemed to make it. "Wait up!" "Haha, no way!" The voices were soft and high-pitched, but held the definite tone of a male. The owners cut quickly through the water, laughing and attempting to speed in front of one another.
"Minako, you can't beat me!" A blonde haired boy sang out, laughing and pulling slightly ahead of another boy with long black hair. They looked like two normal males swimming from the waist up; but they resembled fish from the waist down. A long, glittering, elegant blue tail trailed behind the black haired merman, Minako, who was currently losing the race between he and his friend Komi. "Nyah, Komi, you know you're gonna lose sometime!" He called out in a sing-song like voice, attempting to pass up his friend.

A quiet that seemed as thick as a mountain. A natural air of peace and serenity that was tainted by the anxious worry of a human boy. This was the third night that Yukiko had sat in this small boat, praying to catch one of the magical wish-granting fish.
Personally the boy was starting to feel rather uneasy; could it be that the fisherman lied to get the boy away? Dark brows furrowed together slightly, of course, after all who would want a strange child who had naturally light hair? Neither of his parents had light hair and neither were foreign. Yukiko could faintly recall his aunt calling him a b*****d child, proclaiming that the boy's mother had been sleeping around with other men. Even the thought of her crude words brought small tears to the young man's bright blue eyes - which was another strange trait about the purely Japanese man.

Minako pouted as the tail of his friend began to wave around in his face. Batting it away and rising up closer to the surface, the merboy giggled as he eventually managed to pull a bit ahead of Komi. "Aw- hey! You're not allowed to win this time!" Komi said playfully, kicking his tail harder against the water. Minako just laughed, opening his mouth to say something else- but nothing came out but a pained scream. One his friend didn't seem to notice, and he just swam away to claim victory in their race.
"Owww...Owie..." Minako whimpered, stopping his swimming and reaching up to touch the burning spot in his cheek. This was why no one was allowed to swim near the surface...What was in his cheek?! "It hurts..." And he was too scared to pull it out, because it was, like, pronged or hooked or something.

"Ah, ah!" Yukiko exclaimed in excitement as his rod jerked violently. had he finally caught one?! Blond hair flailed about as the began reeling up the hook and whatever decided to take a bite. "I can't believe it! The fisherman said nobody had caught one in a long time!" Yukiko's eyes were brimming with excitement and tear as he pulled at the line. The wishing fish seemed to be fairly heavy, causing slight confusion to the orphan who simply continued pulling.
How thrilling it was to actually catch something! But, however, in the back of Yukiko's mind something felt amiss. Nothing he could name of course, perhaps it was simply that something felt wrong. No matter, the fair haired boy pushed the thought away and kept reeling as he determined his wishes.

"Aaaaow!" Minako whimpered when the thing in caught in his cheek began pulling the merman quickly closer to the surface. What, what?! What was happening? I'm never swimming with my mouth open again...Or ever going near the surface again! Was this one of those annoying people who sat on the top of their lake all the time? Minako didn't think they were hanging sharp things in the water...
He was forced to swim with the stupid hook in his mouth so it didn't hurt him more, the water around him turning slightly pink. Aah, he was bleeding! No, no, he didn't want to go up to the surface anymore...but the mean man and his hook were pulling him. Minako cupped a hand around his injured cheek, closing his eyes and wincing when his head broke the flawless surface of the water. "Oww..." He opened his watering blue eyes, staring up scaredly at the person occupying a small boat and holding a stick-thing with the hook attached to it. His eyes widened slightly. This was a human's fault? Minako had always been interested in humans...but why did this one have a hook in their water? Meanie meanie meanie...

Bright blue eyes grew wider as the water seemed to tint. Fear ran through the young man like a hot knife through butter. Had he killed the wishing fish? Was he now cursed to an even worse hell than what he lived in?! Then there was a slight splash and what came from it caused the young man's jaw to drop. "T-the old man didn't lie." Yukiko's eyes seemed to be as wide as they could go, his face frozen in surprise. Was this a god and not a fish? Oh kami please let it not be so...
Yukiko grew nervous as he searched for the wishes he had wanted so badly. Ah, what were they?! The appearance of the fish had utterly thrown him.Yukiko bowed his head, the blond hair failing in front of the eyes. "Please...Let my aunt accept me. Please cause her to let me return, and please don't allow her to throw me out like that again." Yukiko rattled of his wishes in one breath, not knowing exactly how he was supposed to do this.

Minako blinked his eyes and whimpered, looking up at the human with fear-stricken eyes. As he listened to the boy speak, confusion caused his head to c**k to the side ad the hook to tug at his skin. Ow! But what was he talking about? "H-huh?" One hand cupped over his cheek, he rested the other against the small boat to keep himself from going under the water and tugging at his cheek some more. At least he could kind of talk.
"I...What are you talking about? Let me go, please...!" Minako whimpered in perfect Japanese. He had his own language, but had mastered Japanese because of his intrigue of humans. But now...Now he was thinking that this human was particularly mean. What was he trying to gain, hurting Minako and then rattling off nonsense?

Panic spread over Yukiko. That hook being in the others cheek had to hurt. The kind eyes seemed unsure of what to do at this point. More than that he heard the other speak, causing the human to be surprised slightly. "You...can speak?" The young apprentice of a fisherman moved quietly and lifted the merman out of the water in confusion. Perhaps he had merely caught a midnight swimmer?
Yukiko could not help but to stare at the tail of the creature for a short while before regaining his senses, somewhat, and placing the creature down in the boat in a sitting position. Returning to his own seat he looked straight at the creature in front of him. "B-but! Nekomori-sensai said to come to the pond! He said that there was only one wish granting fish that resided here." What Yukiko meant was that the fisherman he was the apprentice of had told him that no fish lived in the pond other than the kind that granted wishes.

Minako nodded, a bit confused by the question. "Of course I can speak." Though it was a little difficult with a hook in your mouth. But it's not like he was his sister, Mimori, who didn't understand a word of the human's language. "Wh-" Minako made a little squeak of protest as he was lifted out if the water; but this boy was the one who hooked him like this, it was probably best to not fight against him.
Huffing slightly, he adjusted himself so that a small portion of his tail was hanging in the water still. A small blush swept across his face when he noticed the human staring at his tail. He felt strangely naked and suffocated this much out of the water. Accompanied with this boy's strange ramblings- it was all very stressing to him. "Excuse me? Do I look like a fish to you?" Sure, there were fish in the lake...But he didn't know of any wish granting fish. And he knew pretty much every fish in Lake Moriyama. "I'm sorry, but none of us can grant wishes, mister..." So if he could kindly remove this painful thing from Minako's mouth, that would be fantastic.

The rather dimwitted teen pointed at Minako's tail. "You look more like a fish then some fish I have seen," Yukiko started as he made movements with his hands in attempts to describe a jellyfish, "Sensai showed me a fish that was kind of a roundish shape like this and it had lots of legs....and it stung too! Then there was another kind that Sensai called a ....uh what was the word...." Yukiko pouted slightly as he scratched his blond hair in thought. "Ah! I remember! I think it was a 'squid', but I am not exactly sure..." He seemed proud to remember the word, but he couldn't help feeling a drop of sweat run down his cheek. Honestly it was pathetic to forget such a simple word...
The face of the young man dropped further into sadness as he was told that his wishes couldn't be granted. "B-but...." The teen hung his head sadly, the blond hair falling forward as his shoulders drooped. Suddenly his head popped up as he leaned towards the merman with new vigor. "But, Nekomori-sensai doesn't lie! He is always right. Like with the weird stingy fish, for example: He told me not to touch the leg thingy or it would hurt. I touched the leg thingy and it stung me! I had to have my hand peed on in the end cause I didn't listen to what sensai said!"
