Houdanse settled down into the grass, watching the far-off farm with a critical eye. They breed livestock, so it seems promising enough... I think that may be a chicken coop... it may be a doghouse, too, with my luck. He crept forward, low in the tall grass, intent on getting a better look at the little farmhouse, and the small buildings adjacent. He leaned in closer, intent on seeing whether or not they were likely to keep chickens on the small, isolated farm. So intent was he on his goal that he didn't notice the rustling in the bushes, the soft, insistent growling, until the dogs that watched the small farmstead bounded out after him. "Vous ne pouvez pas être sérieux!" He cursed as he began running through the trees, not intent on fighting the dogs. You cannot be serious! These two were bad enough, but if they came back with burns on their bodies, the farmers would conduct a varmint hunt, and those could get hairy.
He shot up a tree and clung to the branches, the moment he found one he was moderately able to climb, and held on for dear life. Sighing in relief as the dogs began to circle in confusion, he stayed quiet until they began to walk off, confused, but with no more quarry to chase. As soon as they were out of sight, he dropped out of the tree and shook what bits of forest litter that had gotten stuck in his fur, hat, and scarf, off of his usually meticulously clean coat.

Dragana sat on a low branch, watching the farm, looking content. Things were well in her worl... What on earth? She sat up, hearing the dogs getting all excited, and looked around. Why... ahhhh! She watched the male running through the trees, and leaping up into one. When the dogs head off, she hops down and saunters over. "Mmmm seems you got into a bit of excitement there. Why on earth were you tempting the dogs, sir?" Her green eyes rested on his face as she tilted her head, studying the red-brown male. "Surely there are better ways to have fun then angering large dogs, even if you can protect yourself?" She sat down, carefully, and wrapped her tail around herself. "Unless of course you like the sounds of their voices?"

The only indication that Houdanse had noticed the caramel-colored female was a quick glance, before he turned to finish the task of fastidiously cleaning his pelt to a gleaming state, methodically removing the burrs, thorns, twigs, leaves, bits of bark and moss, and the occasional bit of web from his body, then grooming it into gleaming flatness, where his pelt could almost resemble feathers. Then, he righted his hat, rearranged his scarf, and settled back onto four legs, as he preferred, as he found more comfortable. Not to mention, this way he didn't tower over the smaller wish.
He finally turned to regard her when he had finished his task, obsidian eyes meeting emerald, until he drew himself to speak. "I did not intend to waken the dogs' presence to myself," he started, his tone calm and pleasant, his accent ever-present, "But I hardly have the best of fortunes when it comes to such things. I was merely trying to tell whether or not the people of the farmstead kept chickens... if they had not, I would have simply been on my way."

Dragana listened to all of this, her head still tilted, then she finally said "Well... Why on earth are you looking for chickens?" She looked him over again, noting the featherlike look of his fur, and his accessories. "Surely they do not have much in the way of conversation worth discussing, nor are they any good at playing games. Another Wish would certainly be better company."

Houdanse chuckled, more at the thought of chickens than the other wish's ignorance. "You fail to see the point, ma belle. I do not wish to talk with the chickens, nor do I wish to play with them. I am well aware that they are unintelligent, and not particularly kind barnyard fowl." he smiled. "After all, didn't your mere ever tell you not to play with your food?" He looked at her with interest. "What do you eat? Mice? Voles? The forest is full of small creatures, but they are wary, fast, and small. In sum, they difficult to catch, and are little more than a mouthful of edible meat for us, right? The humans raise large, plump, delicious and defenseless chickens, and leave them in houses for those resourceful enough to get them. I do them a favor by keeping martens, foxes, and other wild animals away, but in return, I do take my liberty with the occasional old hen. They are succulent, and they do fill you up much more considerably than most prey animals you could regularly find."

Dragana smiled a little, bemused by the French, for she knew a little Spanish and a little Italian, but very little French. Latin, some too. Some German. Some Japanese. Sadly, all she was fluent in was English. "Mmm... well... To be honest, I usually eat the chicken when the human who's home I make use of cooks it. I find her a useful being, providing food, drink, etc... So hunting is, generally, not needed for me. I do it when I want?"

Houdanse nodded. "That, I would say, is a smart enough decision, as long as she has no intention to collar you or make a fool of you." he glanced down at his trailing scarf, and then sighed. Sometimes, I talk too much. "Forgive me. I do not have such fond memories with humans... me and my siblings were dressed up and used for a Christmas pageant. I was stuck, year after year after year, with a pair of hens as my only company. And hens can be quite nasty... I am certain I have scars somewhere underneath this all." he gestured at himself with a tail, and began walking in the vague direction of the next farm, taking care to not et too close to the last one, where he now knew there were dogs. "Eventually, I grew sick of it, as did some of my siblings, and we finally left the human's company. Mon Soeur, she is very smitten with a shifty young half-breed... who I wouldn't mind if he were an ounce more open with his feelings to her, and a slight bit less imperious."

"Mon soeur?" She looked confused, not recognizing it. "I do not... know that word?" She sighed a little. "And no, I understand, no forgiveness needed. I know some humans are less then kind to their companions. I've heard rumors. Mine is a good sort, she feeds us, provides comradeship, but lets us go as we wish, so as not to leave a choke hold on our lives." She paused, pondering the bit about hens. "I actually am surprised you'd want to go NEAR chickens, then, though... I'd personally, I think, want to never see, smell, or taste them again, with burning hatred.."

Houdanse grimaced and lowered his head slightly in an admonished manner. "Forgive me. It means, my sister. Sometimes I slip into the language from habit and familiarity." She didn't seem vexed, though, and she continued talking. He nodded, continuing to walk her along the forest trails he knew so well. "I am certain that you are correct, and that not all humans are quite so... eccentric as mine was." He chuckled, and nodded as he listened to her viewpoint, that she was surprised that he did what he did. "Some wouldn't. The way I view it, they would win if I did that. I am too competitive by far to let a barnfowl get the better of me. And, it is true that they are most succulent... it is satisfying, in many ways, to be able to eat that which caused me such discomfort when I was young." he looked with an expression of childish joy as he said it, so different from his previously cultured demeanor, while they walked on, him making sure to gradually steer them towards a farm that he knew kept chickens, and where it was safe enough.

Dragana's brows raised, as she listened to him, and she gave a small, delighted laugh at his second part of his speech, about his competitive nature. "I see, I see! So then it would be to your taste to go after a fighting rooster, since they would be the height and most difficult to take on of the breed? Or is it just the hens for which you hold the urge to take on and eat?" She pondered the part about his sister, then said "Mmm perhaps he will come around... or she will. I cannot advise, knowing little at all of the situation, but yes... perhaps?"

Houdanse chuckled as he considered it. "Generally, I go after the fastest one, regardless of gender," he said after he thought it out. "Usually, it gets the farthest away from the farm before I catch it, and then I need not worry too much about hiding the signs of the kill." He looked over at her, and stopped abruptly. "Forgive me, but I don't believe I have introduced myself. I am Houdanse Treisand, formerly the third french hen from the twelve days carol." He stood to make a gallant half-bow, then lowered back onto all fours, and watched her for her response.

"I see, I see!" She said about his hunting tactics. "Sounds like a sound tactic to me! No worries about being hunted down." She blinks as he stops and almost stumbles, trying to stop in time. "Ah... AH! Oh. Yes, of course. I apologize, as well! I am Dragana. No particular last name. I suppose I could say 'Starstone' for my human care taker...?" She smiles at him. "It's an honor, Sir Treisand. It's not often I get to meet a former star." She teases him, gently, not at all mean spiritedly.

"Star? Peh, I wish," he said affectionately. "More like a prop for that woman's... entertainment. Treisand refers to my status as third. It is a pleasure to meet your acquaintance, lady Dragana." He looked out over the view before them, the gibbous moon facing them roundly as the stars lay tangled with wisps of backlit cloud. Practiquement parfait... he thought. If only it was a crescent moon, or perhaps a full, it would be perfect.

She laughs and sits down besides him, glancing at the sky as she replies. "Pfah. You should consider yourself a star. Rise about what her strange mind held you as. Be more." She sounded encouraging, and she beamed at him. Mmm what a wonderful night... This is the perfect romantic spot too! How delightful! She looked at him through lowered lids for a long moment.

Houdanse couldn't help but to smile at her antics, her spirited opinion. "Mais... I would prefer eating the chickens and avoiding most humans, personally. I enjoy it." He nodded his head towards the moon, and her ghostly consorts, and turned his eyes back towards her, her amber coat, the bit of emerald green on her. "You do not find such beautiful places in the human cities."
He felt warm as she watched him through lowered lashes, beautiful green eyes, in this beautiful, secluded hill. "Nor such a beautiful lady." His way of speaking was a bit antiquated, more suited for a romance novel than for real life, but when he'd been around as long as he had, it hardly mattered. It was simply part of him, like his inwardly romantic demeanor and his love for poultry prepared as almost any dish, as much as the hat and scarf he wore, unable to part from all the facets of his past way of life.
