Aodh would not have put it past Barton to cancel their little holiday-thing on the green due to the snow that had fallen days previous and refused to melt. It seemed like schools were so keen on closing over a simple dusting since the creation of education, so he was surprised when another part of town seemed to have the 'rain-or-shine' mentality.
Niven was bundled up in a sweater and puffy coat, snow pants over jeans, a scarf, earmuffs, and a warm fleece hat. He wouldn't be getting cold any time soon, but he also wasn't likely to be bending his knees. He had watched the snow with interest (having never seen it from this angle), and when Daddy said that they would be going into town today? Well, he had been as excited as his generally stoic little self could be. There were children making snowmen and snow angels and various booths selling holiday crafts and warm food. The oldies band up on the movable stage were all bundled up tight and singing Christmas Carols to the green as a whole.
It was a good day to be a kid.
"Well, go on," Aodh said, letting go of Niven's hand and motioning toward the field, "Go play!"
With the other kids? Niven hesitated a moment before barreling full-speed toward a preteen with scales and flopping down to create a snow angel beside him. Wonderful! Cold as it sneaked past his scarf to his neck, freezing, actually, but wonderful! Aodh smiled and kept an eye on the boy as he went to buy some hot cocoa. Ooh, and maybe a cinnamon bun or two...

Alice smiled as she walked down towards the green, holding Bella's hand. The girl was excited to see the city and be in this area again. Her home and family was wonderful but it was getting stifling with Mama Ri caring for the baby and Papa having to worry about the other children.
The purple skinned alien stared around blankly as Alice excitedly tugged her in the direction of the other children. Eventually, the Herald got sick of tugging, just pulling her hand out of Bella's and darting forward to flop in the snow, giggling as her scarf and wings made the snow angel she was trying to make look funnier in shape.

Niven sat up to get a better look at his angel and noted that it seemed to be wearing some kind of 80s bell-pants. How odd! He stood within the shape and began kicking the row of snow that had built between his legs out. When that was finished, he drew a halo over the angel's head and surveyed his work with a smile. Yes, yes, very nice! Hands on his hips, he wondered just how one was supposed to get out without destroying the shape...

Alice stood from her's, a wobbly and awkward thing before jumping over the edge and landing in the snow on the other side. Now the angel had foot prints! The white haired child turned to smile brightly at Niven.
"Hi there!" she greeted, her rather large front teeth making the sounds come out somewhat awkwardly.

Niven smiled and waved before mimicking the girl and leaping out of his own angel. His now had tiny footprints on its side, but that was fine. The footprints weren't a part of it! He wandered over to the new girl and grinned up at her. She was nice, and she had said hi and maybe they could be friends. Judging by her coloration and her pretty wings, she was likely to be fallen too! How coincidental!
"Hi!"

Alice grinned, showing her teeth better. "My name's Alice, what's yours?" she inquired, looking curiously at the boy. Since the baby had born and winter had set in, the beach was less populated near them so they hadn't seen as many new people lately. It was sad and somewhat lonely but at least she was out and about now!

"Niven," the boy replied softly, happy and content to be where he was with who he was. He didn't even feel the usual need to make sure Daddy was nearby at all times.
Aodh did approach then, though, with two cups of hot cocoa and a box of warm mini cinnamon rolls.
"Well, then. Making friends already? Would you like some hot chocolate, lass?" It would just be rude to not get any for the girl too, where ever her parents were. It seemed more and more people just let their young children wander where ever they pleased nowadays. Niven looked at Alice as he accepted his own cup and the little box. They could share!

"Oh! Why thank you." the girl exclaimed as she took the item graciously. "That's very nice of you to get my some too."
She grinned over at Niven, "Issat your Daddy?" the little one asked, her purply wings fluttering as she tried to make conversation with her new friend. It'd been a while since she'd talked to most people outside of her family usually, so the little angel had started to forget some of the things that went along with meeting new friends.

"You're welcome," Aodh smiled. It was worth giving up his cup for a smile like that. How cute! And was this girl even another...oh, what had they called them? Messengers? Thinking on this, he went back to the stand to get himself some cocoa of his own, then going to sit on a cleared bench and watch the children play. He liked that Niven was not so antisocial as he had been as a child.
"Yes," Niven said, plopping back down in the snow and opening the box of treats, "Want some?" He held the box up to his new friend, his cocoa sitting in a cup holder that was more so just a hole in the snow.

Alice plopped herself down carefully, sitting so she didn't have to put down her cup or spill as she did so. While the most tomboyish of her siblings, the child still had learned a few things from watching Issy practice grace and poise.
"Sure! Thanks!" the herald said, reaching out to take one of the treats and nibbling it. "These are nice - have you ever had stuff like this before?"

Niven nodded. Maybe it would have been better to tell her no, lest she had not, but it wasn't at all good to lie.
"Daddy is a very good cook, and we have cocoa mix. Sometimes he doesn't want to bake, though. Sometimes we go out!"

"Ooh, your Daddy's a cook? That's neat! My Daddy owns a candy factory that he started himself. He knows how to make aaaaaaaall kinds!" she explained, "but he's busy with Mama Ri and the baby now."
"Where do you go out to?" Alice asked, cocking her head to the side before tilting it up again to sip her cocoa. Sipping cocoa with your head sideways is a good way to get it down your shirt and all over your scarf - and she liked this scarf.

Niven just shrugged.
"All different places. Sometimes he brings me to his book signings or events. There's always cake there." A candy factory? This girl had perhaps the best daddy every (aside from his own).
"D'you get lotsa candy? Do you watch him make it?"

"Sometimes. He wanted to open a version of his factory here, so I've been watching him make samples." she explained with a nod, "But we don't get lotsa candy because Daddy says too much is bad for us and it'll make us not like it. So we have some as treats now and then when he makes something new, but usually we just have normal food." Alice explained.

"Oh," Niven nodded. That made sense. Even candy-makers wouldn't want big fat kids. He imagined that watching candy being made was almost as rewarding as eating it. Almost.
"That sounds fun, though! I can watch my daddy work, but he only gets very quiet and writes."
