Miah Darkling 11 Cardinal 11 Aw, you're poor beta is all by his lonesome. D: I've always kept my beta's in a 15, now 20, gallon tank with my danios and three cory cats. <3 I'm thinking about getting him a girlfriend. No. Unless he's just going to build nests for her. No other interactions. Betta raising isn't easy, from what I read, and isn't for the unexperienced. Besides, they're just as dangerous with bettas of the other gender if they're not makin' ittle baby bettas. So if they're not mating, they shouldn't be together.

Hes old. Very very very old. Whether he's chasing her around to mate or trying to eat her at least he's doing something. If it gets too out of control, i'll put her in the other tank.

What I would do is increase the tank size to about a 10 gallon with plenty of plants and hides then add two-three females then wait a few hours and add him. The larger the tank and the more hide-aways you have, the less chance of loosing a female. 10 gallon tanks that I've priced have been around $9.99 and you can get clay pots and bash them in half..or however you like and have cheap hides. =)

i think you should upgrade the betta to at least a 10gal then add some other types of fish in there for him to interact with.
besides, why on earth would you want to get another fish if you know its just going to get too stressed?
ive got my male betta in a 20gal with some honey gouramis, cory catfish, and a pleco. everyone is very peaceful and my betta loves partolling his territory but doesnt get aggressive with the other fish

THEY WILL KILL EACH OTHER. @Miah: She'll kill him. Simple as that. If you want to start betta fighting, I can't really stop you, but females have the same general tempermant as males. The only time females can be with other bettas is a sorority tank, which is usually very large, with enough room for each other FEMALE betta to have their own territory. If you want to give him company, I'd suggest a 10 gallon tank with a social, non-flashy school of other fish. I have a female betta in a 10 g. with 3 spotted cory catfish, and they get along just fine. She's happy, they're happy, they interact and aren't lonely. Make sure that they are all tropical, so when you get a heater and filter (make sure the filter is the right power for your tank), you won't be jeapordizing specific fish.

I simply don't have the room to convert my 10 gal that I had my gecko in to a fish tank. I can't have my betta with other fish because A. Can't get anymore fish, and B. The fish I do have are too small and he'll kill them. I get that he's lonely, but he's also very old. The females that I can get locally are smaller than my Glow fish. I understand if you people are trying to be helpful, but don't be assholes about it because I really don't want to hear it. If I could have him with other fish without either the others dying or him dying I would. He had a tank mate, I had two males in a single tank that had a divider. The other male died so I put Hiro in a larger tank so he wasn't so crammed. He's in a 1.5 gallon tank and he's doing just fine. Since I put the plant and hiding spot in for him, his color has started to come back.
He's doing just fine now.

We're not being assholes, quite frankly, you're being the a**. You're listening to no one, and when we give you advice, you blow it off. I have not a single problem with your betta being alone, but don't get him a girlfriend. That's all I've been trying to say. You need to stop blowing us off and start listening. You're starting to sound like one of those arrogant little dogs that asks for help but then totally blows everything off. Seeing without hearing.

What cute little mice whee They look like brindles, do you have any trouble keeping them at a healthy weight? What kind of bedding is it that you have them on?
