She had bad luck.
No no, that wasn’t fair. She’d had the very good luck of getting out of Barren Hell alive after all. Still, Imogen felt she had very questionable luck at least when on the way back from her first trip out to the swing club since she got out of hospital she suddenly met another bloody monster. Admittedly there were a lot reported around Destiny City these days but give a girl a break!
This was some sort of plant; a thorny bush that had morphed into a generic predator-like animal shape and it had decided to come along to play. It rustled when it moved and creaked like bending wood. Yet it also sort of growled which was weird really since it obviously didn’t have any vocal cords nor lungs…though perhaps now was not the best time to ponder youma anatomy.
She had just had to take a short cut through the labyrinthian back streets by the swing club, didn't she? You'd think she'd have learnt by now that if she was going out at night she should stick to the main streets and I don't know, start carrying around a concealed crowbar just in case one of these things popped out of nowhere. But she didn't have a crowbar. Running was not an amazing option either when she knew only the way from point A to point B in this maze of small alleys and would likely run herself into a dead end. So, failing fleeing and having no crowbar she quickly started to look for something to help her.
It was very slim pickings from her hurried glance around. There was a plastic bin whose lid could make some-what cumbersome shield. Or hey maybe she could throw smelly rubbish at it and hope it'd go away! Imo bit her lip and as the thorn-wolf growled again settled for the bin lid. Might buy her a few seconds anyway. If she tried to dodge around it, using the shield, maybe she could get back in the right alley to head to point B (aka Home)...
Very. Questionable. Luck.

It was early in the evening, just about the time Nemesis started her patrol. She had been out all day, supposedly hanging out with friends, but in reality she was just killing time before she needed to go youma-hunting. There seemed to be little else in her life right now, school work, and youma-hunting. If she had free time, it was devoted to more school work, and more thoughts about how to better take on youma-hunting and negaverse-hunting. What a sad life Nemesis was leading. She'd have to get back her social life at some point. It was time to make some appointments with her friends, go shopping a little more, hell, even go out for a walk without thinking about her senshi duties.
It was, of course, her thoughts about non-senshi things were disrupted by very senshi-things. This case it was a youma, in the shape of... some sort of a plant animal. Whatever the case, it was on the scent of someone. A girl, a very unfortunate girl to have been picked the victim of the youma. But, on the other hand, a very lucky girl that Nemesis was patrolling the area right now.
Without hesitation she dropped from the top of a building, down into the dirty alleyway. At least her skirt hadn't been dirtied by the fall (and at least she didn't fall over onto her face). She gave one look back to Imogen, didn't bother with introductions. There was no time for that. She had to keep the youma away from the girl, and that was it. "Stay behind me, unless you want to be made into a snack," that was all she said. Carefully, she kept the youma in her sights, her hands pulling into fists, preparing for a fight when she had no actual weapon.
Oh well, Nemesis had made it work before, she could do it again.

She almost whacked Nemesis around the head with the bin lid. Dropping down in front of Imogen like that had rather spooked her, when ‘death from above!’ was an actual possibility. For all she’d known in that split second was holy crap something was now in front of her of her and might turn around to eat her. That little scare on top of her already afraid/rageful mood was enough to make her jump and before she could think better of it mouth off -
“What, no I am Sailor Badass and in the name of badassery I’ll do badass things?” If she’d had a hand free, she’d have raked it through her curls before she apologised. She tone was still snappy but in her defence, she had been chased by angry shrubbery. Murderous topiary was enough to make anyone cranky. She'd been rude. Oops.
“Sorry bit stressed right now. But can you do anything? Because the last one of you guys chucked a rock at the monster and I hit it with a stick, which, y'know, is far cry from the laser light shows they put on TV.”
*
The youma bristled, its thorns obvious and it weighed up the new girl in front of it. Growling it started to advance, it's body low as if tensed to spring.

Oh, okay, that was one way to piss Nemesis off. Here she was coming to save this girl's a**, and what did she do? She mocked her. She ******** mocked her. With a hiss Nemesis shot a sharp glare over her shoulder at the girl. "Look, b***h, either I help you out, or let the youma have at you. At this point it is looking like I'll let the youma have you." She snapped, as Nemesis was given to do almost one hundred percent of the time. Her attention focused less on the youma, and more on the girl she was supposed to protect, but didn't much feel like doing right now.
"Huh, just a little bit stressed?" she tsked, turning her gaze away from Imogen to focus it yet again on the youma. It was sizing her up, she could tell, deciding how to attack, how to get at her. "I can do a whole lot ******** more than you. So, if you want me to actually be of use to you, you'll stop pissing me off." There, the youma was beginning to advance on them. Nemesis couldn't risk having it jump at them, she had to attack now, take the offensive. Once it was paralyzed she could find a way to hack it into bits and pieces.
Yes, the time to attack was now, not later.
"Decay of movement!" She cried out, her attack was sure to hit. Would it take effect immediately...? No. Until it did, Nemesis would just have to fend it off.

“Look, when someone hands me some magic powers of my own, I’ll be happy to handle all my monster problems all by myself!” Imogen rolled her eyes. There was just no apologising to some people and some people were not exactly understanding either.
Nemesis could do a whole lot more than Imogen, it was true. She could apparently drop from rooftops like she was a superhero, had what was either very advanced weaponry or real magic (and being a romantic Imo actually favoured the latter in her heart of hearts) and probably had plenty of experience with monsters. Whereas Imo was not long out of hospital, a human with no magic and who having only seen them twice now was not used to monsters running about trying to kill people.
And yet under her growing bravado (fear was taking a hike in favour of rage) her pride was a bit stung. She’d helped kill a monster before and she’d survived a hell of a lot of s**t so far this year. It’s not like she was completely helpless and she still intended to get in one good hit at least now tables seemed to be turning.
“I hardly meant to get in the way of your monster hunting.”
*
The tables turned again.
The youma, perhaps realising what was happening as the attack took affect decided it was time to launch itself at the pair. If it was going down it was taking a chunk or two of them with it! It had nothing to loose now, now speed was of the essence. It could go berserk rather than waiting and seeking a decent opening.
It gathered up all its energy and sprang.

"Very unlikely. The day someone lets you have that sort of power is the day I commit suicide." She was exaggerating, of course, but that was mostly due to her own irritation with the girl. Imogen would probably be a better senshi than most of the ones running around right now. The girl at least had some predisposed notion of how to protect herself against a possible attack, and that was a lot more than what most had. Hell, some senshi had to be yelled at to have some sense knocked into them. This girl actually came with SOME sense (though not a lot, since obviously she had been singled out as easy prey by the youma).
"But somehow you manage to anyways. How kind of you," she drawled sarcastically. This banter with Imogen was distracting her from the actual battle, and before she knew it the youma was launching itself at them. Thinking quickly, and perhaps after having been remotely inspired by Imogen, she grabbed the lid off of a trashcan, bringing it up as a shield as the youma leaped at her. The plant-creature crashed into the makeshift shield, and with a grunt she pushed the youma back, kept it away from them for as long as she needed to.
"Back up, I can't do much until my attack sets in. We need to keep our distance." That, and she wasn't sure she could fight it off with a trash can lid for that much longer.

"It's either try to survive or go down kicking." Or possibly screaming but Imogen was actually usually more angry at these things than scared. Between Barren Hell (which okay, supposed to be organ traffickers but her hatred didn't have to be rational) and her run in with the 'bad fairy', Imo was pissed off. She was frightened because only an idiot wouldn't have a healthy fear of a monster but she luckily tended to emote the greater rage, which fueled her desire to flee or fight rather than sink to her knees and cry like a baby, which was the other option. Imo always took emotions to the extreme, she'd probably faint with extreme fear.
Gawd knows how Nemesis would treat a girl who fainted! She was no Gemini that was for sure.
Imo meanwhile stood at the ready with her bin-lid shield. The ally was not wide enough to stand abreast and help push off the things charges and really, Nemesis was stronger. The redhead still has stitches healing from last time. She'd better wait to help if she could...besides, Senshi vs. monster was how it was supposed to be. She wasn't going to get her hit in anything that thing was on the foor.
"Shields up, stay out the way until it's down - gotcha."

There was no question that Nemesis and Imogen would survive, or at least there was no doubt in Nemesis' mind. This was just one stupid youma to kill - she'd done it before. Just... this time she had some extra garbage (oh, if she had time to laugh, she so would have). Nemesis should have just left this girl to deal with the youma herself, she could have pep-talked herself into defeating it well enough. Of course, some small part of Nemesis knew the girl would have just been a youma-snack, and that same small part wanted Nemesis to protect her. So, Nemesis did. She just did it a little reluctantly for as long as that girl kept her mouth running.
The paralysis was beginning to take control of the youma, Nemesis could see it struggling to drag a leg as it tried to move in for an attack. Already its other limbs were freezing up, and Nemesis didn't waste time. It was incapacitated enough that Nemesis could attack without too much threat towards her well-being, and that was all the incentive she needed. Nemesis moved from Imogen's side, swinging up the trash can lid in an arc, bringing it against the youma's side. The spines dented the lid, but it didn't deter her. Rather, she only brought up the lid again and smashed it into what was assumed to be the creature's head.
It was time to smash it before it regain movement. Nemesis was comfortable enough doing it that she was this youma would be dust pretty soon.

Now that Nemesis had moved, Imo could as well. She watched and decided that she didn't care what the brusque senshi thought of her, she'd get in a blow or two now it was down.
Like the senshi had she brought the lid down on the monster, in her case into the things side and then drew it back to do so again. The twig-woven body snapped in places satisfyingly. She wanted to make sure the thing was killed, that there was no way in hell it'd get back up, and it let out some of her rage and teh underlying fear. After a last rather vicious blow to the thorn-wolf, Imo felt a bad painful twinge under the bandage on her arm. Maybe pulled the stitches a bit? Which was what she'd been going to avoid. She just had to let her emotions rule her again, hadn't she...
"Thank you."

With one final blow to the head, the plant-youma fell apart into pieces, bits of wood, grass, and earth. Now that the creature was dealt with, Nemesis could turn her attention to more pressing things.... like, for example, idiot number one here. "Don't do that ever again," Nemesis growled impatiently at the girl. "Are you stupid? If that youma had recovered, you could have been killed. Leave this s**t up to people who know how to deal with it." The last thing she needed was more schoolkids running into trouble and thinking that they would be able to handle it. Imogen probably had only attacked the youma because she felt comfortable when Nemesis started attacking, but it didn't necessarily excuse the action.
"Yeah, whatever, you're welcome. You're lucky it's my duty to exterminate these things." Then again, Nemesis took a certain amount of pleasure in attacking and killing youma. Nemesis did like saving people, she just didn't like other people knowing that she did. "Just be careful. Your parents would probably cry if you ended up in the hospital."

Been there, done that, it was s**t. Her mother had already cried thinking she was dead for a year and again when she'd turned up in hospital after Barren Hell. It was not like she went looking for these things to happen to her anyway or especially enjoyed fighting them. But when you couldn't run, you fought and Imogen couldn't see how that was a bad thing. If she gave up, yeah, she could see the problem.
Imogen just shook her head. Her anger was fading somewhat now and she didn't want to get mad at Nemesis. After all, she had just saved her. Maybe Imo was stupid having a go at the youma once it was down but frankly she was in fact utterly stressed out. Idiotic but her rash way of dealing had been to let out some aggression when she could. Nemesis could scoff all she wanted. Last time if she hadn't hit the youma, Gemini would have been hurt anyway so 'hit the monster' was kind of programmed in.
"Thanks. Goodbye." See you around Sailor Badass.
She didn't even get the offer of a kiss for the help and Imo was so not sticking around to flirt with this senshi.

So after the youma had been vanquished this girl learned how to stop talking? Nemesis would be quicker to kill the youma next time, if that was the case (and also, she was really hoping there wouldn't be a next time). Nemesis gave the bits of earth one last look, gaze scrutinizing. It just looked as if a potted plant had fallen, which was good enough, she supposed. Nemesis had no idea what Imogen would do now, and she really didn't care. It wasn't like she could say much of anything the news didn't have already, or that people would believe. Nemesis felt pretty safe just taking off, that and, she really didn't want to stay around for much longer. There might be more youma out there, and the night was still young.
Yeah... definitely time to go. "Whatever. Don't get eaten."
Hah. Nemesis almost wished that the girl would. Nemesis walked past Imogen, barely managing to not bump into her (she wanted to, sort of), and left the alleyway to continue her youma-hunting.
