She had left Helaku sleeping soundly in the copse of trees they'd found for the night. He'd looked so much like a cub, curled up among the swirl of grasses. Some forgotten dream had woken her, and she had spent a time gazing with love at her son. A restlessness had taken her then, stirring her to rise from the warm spot and pace beneath the stars.
It was a nippy night, not particularly cold, but with enough chill to make the swirls of wind make her regret leaving the warmth of their nighttime nest. The night was moonless, but the star plenty bright enough to light her path. Not that she was going anywhere particularly. She merely need to move, as if she were trying to outpace the disturbing murmurs of her dreams.
In the distance she could see a herd of some hooved kind, stirring uenasily at her presence. She swung her head away from them and kept on padding forward, leaving them in peace. She was not one to hunt for sport, for the thrill of the kill. She hunted for food without any trouble, but to her it wasn't a pleasurable thing to do, just for fun. It was a necessary evil to take the life of another in order to live on yourself, or to feed those who depended on you. She herself hunted for her son, though he did not shirk helping her when needed. He was a good boy, one she could be proud of.
As the warmth of the joys of motherhood filled her mind and eased her troubled heart, she topped a rise to find a conveniently placed jutting of rock. It was large enough to hold a very small pride of a male, a few lionesses, and their resultant cubs. It seemed this place wasn't currently graced with such a family, though. Thinking of her wistful desire to find such a family, or to create one of her own, she mounted the boulders to sit atop it alone, gazing upward at the families of stars that clustered above her head.

Kiri'ua had been passing through the night. As of late, she had taken to making most of her travel and journeys at night. It was always easier to travel greater distances under the cool evening stars than the ever tormenting hot pointed sun.
She was traveling alone of course. She spent most of her life alone. It was a life she felt comfortable with. Sometimes, she could feel the emptiness inside that came from a lack of bond with neither male nor female, friend nor foe. She just never felt like she belonged with anyone. She never did come to find out how she was seperated from her parents. She certainly couldnt' remember them. Her earliest memories of a cub was being lost out in a swamp; one she barely escaped out of alive.
She paused looking which way she would go next. As her eyes roamed the landscape. She caught the sight of something magnificent. The profile of a lion up on a rock in the starlight. How nice! It looked alone.. alone like her... Maybe they could share the night alone... together...

Whether it was a soft sound or a shift of the wind bringing a hint of another's scent to her, Delphia could never have said. Whatever cause it, she turned her gaze from the sparkling sky down to the land below the rock she perched upon. Gleaming brightly in reflection of the starlight she caught sight of a shape. Alert but neither defensive nor offensive, she tipped her head to side and peered a bit closer. Ah, it was a younger lioness, her white pelt showing so brightly against the land. Her darker markings had made it difficult to truly pick her shape out as feline. Rising to her paws, Delphia moved to the edge of the rock.
"Greetings traveller," she called out warmly. "Would you care to join me for a moment's rest? Perhaps I can tell you of the territory ahead." She sat comfortably, tail curled about her forepaws, gazing serenely down at the other lioness. There was no mistaking the sincerity of the invitation. Delphia savored the company of others, when she could get it. There was no real assuming that this other traveller would care to spend time with her, of course, nor could she truly be sure this other was good of heart. However, it was in Delphia's nature to assume the best of anyone until they proved otherwise. Patiently she waited to see if her invitation would be accepted.

Kiri smiled as the image of the splendor of lionness of great and wondrous came to life. Oh, it was another lionness. She watched the lionness move to the edge of the rock. She always admired how other females moved with such grace and dignity. She only hoped she looked that way as well when she moved.
An invitation? She raised her body and gave a nod of her head. "Sure. I'd be happy to have any guidance or direction. I tend to roam with no idea of where I'm ever at to tell you..."
She hoped her voice was loud enough to carry up there. Sometimes, it wasn't so loud.

Delphia smiled down at the soft-spoken female. What an unusual lioness to meet randomly wandering about on her own! Surely the meek voice was not evidence of the extent to her nature. One had to be strong of spirit and body to wander the roguelands safely. "Come on up and sit for a time," she called warmly. Her head tipped to one side in a gentle gesture of suggestion. "We can talk easier if you join me, and the land is easier to see." Well, as much as one could see by the stars, she amended mentally. Perhaps if the female stayed lone enough, dawn could reveal more for direction.
She waited while the other climbed up to the same level as she. She gave a soft purr of greeting, a much more familiar and affectionate greeting than most gave to a stranger. Truth be told, Delphia would have been likely to also give a gentle cheekrub as well, but held herself back. It wasn't fair to intrude on someone's space uninvited, even if it was done in a gesture of goodwill. She smiled in the starlight and introduced herself. "I am Delphia, though not currently of any pride." This was said without regret. How could she resent it, when she travelled with her son? He was her world. She turned her mind from thoughts on why she treasured him so and focused instead on the newcomer. "May I ask your name, and where you have come from?" Talk of the territory could come later, after a bit of a visit. Though not part of a group, the grey female had the demeanor of a very socially active lioness.

Kiri smiled happily at the purring. Boy, it sure was nice to every now and then happen on the more friendly lions of the wild. Some were practically demons if not the very thing. Still, Kiri would prefer no better company than a lioness. She eased herself next to Delphia. Her tail flicking every so often in curiosity of meeting someone new.
The white and purple lioness gazed out over the land. Her eyes looked about. Secretly, she wondered if she would be able to see the borders of her original homeland from here. Ones she hadn't seen for so long a time. It was interesting to her that it was at that precise moment that Delphia inquired of her name and where she was from. Kiri looked at her with wonder filled eyes as she answered. "My name is Kiri'ua. Though my family only used to call me Kiri. I am from... Well, I do not even remember the name of the land so much. However, I was once born to a family in a pride known as the Suka'Fumo. My parents were somewhere in the hierarchy. However, when I was... very very young... Civil unrest broke out following some tragedies. I couldn't take living under it anymore, so I ran away."
Kiri's face paled with shame and embarrassment at telling this complete stranger what a fool she was to have done such an erroneous thing. Surely, this formidable lioness would judge her harshly as she deserved. Surely, she wouldn't want to keep her company any more than she would need to. Kiri was certain of this. She felt always certain of such a situation. For she always judged herself and often felt like anyone she met judged her as well.
Kiri found that pouring her soul out to this lady was so relieving. She felt ready to burst with emotion. The heaviness of her heart was at it's max. How could this person have even known? It felt almost like being with her sister.

The older lioness listened calmly, her gentle demeanor not slipping or changing. She mulled what the brighter lioness had to say, nodding her head slightly at appropriate times in acknowledgement. "It sounds like a stressful environment to live in," she agreed, settling down to recline with her forepaws crossed. She looked up into the expanse of stars above to avoid making the other female uncomfortable with an intent gaze. "Do you know where you want to be going, then?"
She slanted a non-threatening sideways glance at Kiri'ua. She might have made a good or bad choice in running away. It wasn't Delphia's place to make such a judgment, having not been involved in the upheaval that produced the response. But she had a feeling that home was where her family was for this lioness. She seemed to have a longing, a wistfulness, even though she clearly had experienced a great deal if distress and trauma from the pridal problems.

Kiri whispered under her breath, "Yeah. Stressful indeed. Not to mention that those canines who just increased in number didn't really help things either. Canines..psh.. who needs them..."
Then Kiri glanced sideways herself. She observed Delphia's calm demeanor. She wished she could be this calm. She hoped that she could have this manner of character. "Yes. I think.... I want... to return. It's just that... Going back can be rather daunting. I guess it's not so much that I would mind swallowing my pride. I guess I just feel afraid they might not forgive my foolishness."
It was then Kiri really hoped that this wiser lioness next to her would tell her that everything would be ok. That she might direct her to return just like kiri really wanted to.

Delphia let the muttered comment go, knowing it wasn't meant for her. The bitterness in it troubled her motherly heart, but she was not here to be a scolding authority to the younger lioness. Instead, she turned her attention to the anguish expressed in what was actually addressed to her. The unspoken plea for hope of forgiveness touched her soft heart.
She rose and moved to the lioness and rubbed cheeks with her comfortingly. "Family can be unpredictable and sometimes can hurt each other cruelly," she admitted, "but if they love you, I doubt you will be turned away." She smiled sadly and purred softly, gazing into the troubled female's eyes. "Love forgives. It always forgives. Even when the hurt goes deep. Sometimes when the pain is fresh, forgiveness seems impossible. But love always triumphs, and from what you've said, love was in your family before your trials overcame you, my dear."
She gave her another motherly nuzzle. "Do what your heart says you should," she advised. "Trust your family to know your heart, and tell them how you feel." Communication was always key to any relationship, but especially to repairing one. "Be honest with yourself, and if you go back, be honest with them too." She sincerely hoped this worked well for the pretty lioness. The poor thing seemed so lonely and bereft. Delphia knew that for her, family was everything. Granted, she had a family of two, hereself and Helaku, but that was enough for her.

Kiri then turned her head to hold the gaze with this wise lionness. For a moment, she almost felt like she was in the presence of her mother. It was a warm feeling. It was also a feeling that continued to stir her. It stirred her deeply. These ideas of forgiveness, healing, trust. They all sounded amazing. Kiri'ua deeply hoped that what she heard would be true.
Then Kiri sighed in relief as her was already making up her mind for her. She looked apologetic to the other. "Thank you so much... and now, if I am not too rude. I hope you can excuse me. I'd like to lay down for a small nap."
She then pawed off into a thick of grass nearby to lay down. Home.... family... they called to Kiri.
