In many Middle Eastern countries, such as KSA (Saudi Arabia) your religion is on your passport. Pakistan also requires this (as of 2005) This is done because only Muslims are permitted to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Would you feel comfortable having your religion on your passport?
If anyone DOES live in a country where this happens, has it ever caused problems?

I have never been very secretive about an important aspect of my life except when it comes to certain members of my family... No it wouldn't bother me. But I do have a question... what if you are in between religions and would you have to somehow prove you were in that religion because couldn't somebody just say they were a muslim on their passport just to get into Mecca? or lie about their religion for other purposes.

This is a good point! Recently I learned that people like me (converts to Islam) will only be permitted to Mecca if I had a signed certificate from a registered Imam in a Mosque neutral

Because I'm an American, so we dont have our religions on our passports.
And my name is non a Muslim name.

It's too bad non-Muslims can't visit Mecca. I'd like to see the Kaaba, even though I'm not Muslim. It's very interesting to just see... I'm studying Arabic, and I'm taking courses in Arabic literature and I'm going to learn the Quran more thoughtfully than I have so far. It's pretty funny I can get a B.A in it and can never see it... XP
Not like I'm planning to go to Saudi Arabia, but it's too bad I don't have the option.

Anyway. I don't want my religion on my passport. I don't think it's anyone's business, and there's no reason why I should be marked this way. This isn't such critical information.

Truthfully, I think having your religion on passports is a good idea. I just heard there was another attempt to take over an airplane by a terrorist. I haven't looked for details yet, but if we have religions on passports we could be notified of our enimies sooner than "I have a bomb strapped to my leg". Granted our machines take care of that stuff, but just saying. I think it would be a good and quick way to take down the terrorists. Yes, they can lie. That's another issue...

An issue with that is "OMG YOU'RE MUSLIM YOU'RE GONNA KILL US!!!" Which is never a good thing to hear a panicked person say in an airport. Plus, much more often than not, it's probably wrong.

That's not good imo; too much prying in privacy :/ To me religious beliefs are personal matter.

Stereotyping aside, I think it's a stupid idea.

I'm leaving for Israel in a few hours, if I had "Jewish" written on my passport, I wouldn't have been able to travel in the Middle East last year. I would have had A LOT of issues from Arabs.

All you have to do is look at the reason you just provided us with for having ones religion on their passport to see that it is a very very bad idea. It will be used for discrimination and as non- politically correct as this may be, Muslims and Islamic countries in many areas in the Levant and the ME, and over towards Asia can be a bit unfriendly towards non-Muslims (Christians and Jews in particular).

That wouldn't be too smart, it would give us all a false sense of security because while the airport searches your average friendly Muslim the real terrorists won't be "Muslim". That type of profiling doesn't work, people are smart, they'll find someone who can easily blend in.

Actually, the most troubling thing about this offer is the idea of being suspected as a terrorist for you religion. There are over 1.5 billion Muslims in this world, I'm absolutely certain not even 0.0000000000001% of them aren't going to blow up a plane. You can't tag them as dangerous for religious reasons.

Awww, you're an Israeli...So its going to be very hard for you to see Saudi Arabia. Since I believe Israeli's and people who have been to Israel are banned. It's so terrible that our world has come to this s**t. emo

I am quite amazed you just said that.
I've been on international flights many times, and none of the planes I was on had a problem. confused

You should look up domestic terrorism and see how many are your average non-Muslim neighbor.

I think it's a bad idea, unless you're making Aliyah or something.
