It was a beautiful night, it really was. Even though mum and daddy always cautioned her to stay tucked tight in bed, she couldn't ever help the urge to jump out and try to find out more about the wide open world around her - where did the noises come from? Why did the daisies always grow with white petals, and yellow centers? How many trees were there in the forest she saw off in the distance? She wandered out to see what she could see, bounding through the white powder, and giggling as it sprayed around. Eventually, she got bored, tired, her fur was nearly soaked with the water from melted snow, and she felt ten ounces heavier than before. Then, she caught movement. A rabbit, maybe? Perhaps a fox? No, it was too big, too differently-colored to be anything she'd seen before... or anyone.
Was that... another wish?

Snow was annoying. End of story. Sure it was a form of water, and Nekoda really loved the water, but it had an uncanny ability to make him completely invisible if he wasn't constantly shaking the stuff off his coat. It definitely wasn't the ideal weather to take a walk but he needed some time to clear his head. "Its only a girl...why don't you like girls?" He frowned and mumbled under his breath, watching as it puffed out into a cloud. Once again he had found himself being teased for being so shy and instead of standing there and taking the ridicule he had left.
With his mind elsewhere he didn't notice the obvious spot of color laying in the snow until he almost tripped over it. He jumped a little bit when he felt something warm and wet against his paw and he wrinkled his nose in disgust before looking down however his whole attitude changed when he realized that he was standing over a kit. "H-hey! Are you alright?"

Blueness tried to back away as the big wish stepped on her. "I-I guess..." she said, blinking widely. "But it wasn't very nice to do that, mister." She looked up at him with wide eyes and said, "But I guess I shoulda said something before you did. Mama would say it's good... nammers?" She blinked, confused, unable to remember quite what her mother had said. Oh, well, chasing that butterfly had been fun, and most of her siblings hadn't been paying too much attention, either. It was fun, chasing the butterfly... then the snow came, and it got cold.
"Mama says it's good nammers to int-" ...her face fell into a look of concentration as she worked to remember the big word- "...introduce yourself to nice people. Are you nice? You don't look very mean, or very strangerish at all. So I guess you're okay. My name's Blueness, what's your name?"

"Oh jeez, I'm sorry." Nekoda stepped back and kneeled down so he could nudge the kit with his nose. Now that he got a good feel he could tell that the little one wasn't as warm as he first thought. This isn't good. He didn't know her well enough to know if she normally spoke how she was now or if it was just the cold affecting her but he did know that being out in the elements wouldn't be good for her tiny body in the long run.
Taking a hold of the scruff of her neck with his teeth he gently lifted her onto his back and used his tail to keep her there as he headed for a low pine tree where the ground was free of snow. "My name is Nekoda and yes, I think I'm pretty nice most times." He could only angle his head back slightly to talk to her while he concentrated on picking through the snow to reach the tree where he could hopefully warm Blueness up.

Blueness brightened as he responded, despite being frustrated at being treated like such a baby. He had actually picked her up by the scruff of the neck and started carrying her, but she figured it was impolite to say as much until she found out why. "Hey, mister Nekoda, what are you doing?" she asked, forever the forthwith character. "I'm not a baby anymore, you know," she added, figuring that although she knew it was a futile gesture against forever difficult-to-persuade adults, she would try. After all, he seemed like he could understand.Chai grumbled and leapt over yet another demolished snowbank in search of Tantra's missing kit. She often wished that she had never the modern comforts of the human cities, with their rich women who took interest in such a discerning pet, and would occasionally treat her to tea, or chocolate, or coffee. Oh, the drink of the gods, it was, in her mind, and she throught of the hot brown, piping hot liquid... With two creams, two sugars, and served in a dish just for me. Instead, she was chasing down her old friend's wandering babe, trying to make sense of the mess of tracks and slidemarks in the snow, to find her before the snow soaked through her thick fur.

Nekoda smiled and knelt down to the ground. "I'm taking you someplace dry so I can warm you up." He chuckled as he slid Blueness off his back and onto the forest floor. "Of course you're not, but you're still a lot smaller than me and even I sometimes have a hard time keeping warm in this weather." After situating her close to the tree trunk so the snow wouldn't blow in on them he wrapped his body around her and settled down. "What were you doing all the way out here anyway?"

Blueness considered what he has said, and nodded, satisfied with the answer. "Okay then... makes sense" she agreed, snuggling into him readily. "You're as wet as I am," she remarked, a hint of reproach in her voice. But she didn't move, only wiggled a bit and wrapped her tail around her front. "Well, me and my sister were looking up at the sky last night, and she got tired and went to bed... and I saw something pretty fall from the sky! I came here to look for it... but I didn't see where it landed, so I started exploring instead. And then I met you!" She smiled brightly at him, blinking wide eyes up at him. "Why were you out here, Mister Nekoda?" she asked.
Chai sighed and began following yet another trail of tracks, slidemarks, and confusing backwards scrambles, intent on finding the kit like she had promised.

Neokda rolled his eyes a little yet still smiled. "Yes I'm wet but hopefully I'll be able to warm us both up enough so that we'll dry out." When he saw that Blueness was settled he shook his tail to rid it of the clinging snow and covered her little body with it. "Sounds like fun. I'm out here because I needed to be alone for a little bit. Some other wishes were saying things and making fun of me. But I'm okay now." He nodded and was about to put his head down when the scent of another wish wafted through the air to him.
Pushing his body up as much as he could without disturbing his little friend too much he began to scan the snow in search of the other. It almost smelled like...a female.

Chai grumbled as she continued to try to find the kit, finding strange drag-marks interspersed with paws. Bigger paws. Had Tantra found her missing kit on her own? Then why ask me? she wondered, and turned her head slightly. It looked like the kit had been taken away somewhere, but... oh, she wasn't used to this folowing tracks in the wilderness bit, she'd rather be back in the city with a piping-hot bowl of slightly-sweetened, wonderfully bitter, coffee. nevertheless, she decided to try one last, desperate, attempt to find the kit before she had to try digging in the snow for the little brown-and-blue lump. "Ness, darling, your mother wants to know you're safe and well. Your father is worried sick, you know."
Blueness stirred as she heard Chai call for her. "Chai, Chai, I'm in here!" she said, poking her head out. "I met this nice wish, he's called Nekoda, and he helped me in here to get me warmed up! He didn't even need to ask if I was cold to know..."
As soon as she knew where Ness' voice was coming from, Chai turned her head and gave an unimpressed glare to the two wishes facing her from the hollowed-out tree trunk.

Oh gods, it was a female. Nekoda shrunk back and covered his face with his paws, mumbling to himself about the jerks back at the gathering which, until now, had completely disappeared from his thoughts. With a sigh he uncurled his tail from around the kit and gently nudged her with his toes. "Go on, it sounds like you have a way home now."
"Nekoda, where the hell did you run off to?" Even though she was swearing Noel was more worried than angry. Once again she had watched as her friend let the other wishes make him the butt of their jokes and teasing. "Poor guy really needs to grow a backbone." She shook her head and concentrated on watching what she hoped was the tracks he had left as he stormed off from the gathering.

Chai stood, unmoving, with an unimpressed look on her face. "Come now, I won't bite, and I want to hear exactly how you happened upon Tantra's missing kit." she stayed outside of the trunk, though, and watched him with a degree of confusion as to why he was so panicked. He hasn't done anything wrong, has he? she wondered, rethinking the tracks outside. But, Blueness seemed to like him just fine.
Blueness curled against him "I don't wanna," she said stubbornly, and added, so quietly that Chai could only hear that thesmall blue kit was whispering, she added, "You're scared of Chai for some reason. She's not as mean as she looks... why are you so scared?" She snuggled against him, more to protect and comfort him than anything else.

Nekoda sighed and removed his paws from his face, placing them under his chin instead. "I w-was taking a w-w-walk to clear m-my head. I-I wasn't w-watching where I was g-g-going and I s-stepped on her. S-she was c-cold and wet s-s-so I carried her h-here and tried t-to warm her u-u-up." With his explanation finished he looked down at his toes and picked at the ground until he felt Blueness move against him.
Frowning as the kit refused to listen to him he sighed again and poked her side gently. "But you have to. Don't you think your parents are worried about you?" Inching his head closer he nudged her cheek with his muzzle. "I'm not scared, silly. Remember how I told you that other wishes were making fun of me? Well, they were saying mean things because I get nervous around girls."
Ah-ha. Noel would recognize that stutter anywhere. Picking up her pace she finally caught up to her buddy. "How many times have I told you to not let them get to you?" She huffed then blinked when she realized that he wasn't alone. "Oh...um...hello."

Chai nodded. "Apparently. Well, has she warmed up, or not?" she asked, keeping the strain, the impatience, out of her voice, knowing that for some reason, she was causing him distress. She paused, turned, when she saw another wish, a very vividly-colored one, come up and address the trembling male.
Blueness made a strange face. "That's silly... girls are nice!" she said, then added a, "Hey, I'm a girl, why aren't you nervous around me?" She heard a strange voice, obviously female, and talking to Nekoda as though they were familiar. "Or her? Why aren't you nervous of her?" She balanced up on her hind-legs enough to stick her head out the hollow - so she could catch a glimpse of the vividly-colored wish that had just walked up to them all. "Hello~! My name's Blueness! What's your name?" She bounced with such sincerity and vigor, even after half-freezing in the snow, that Chai couldn't hide a sincere smile at the kit's antics.

Nekoda chuckled a little and shook his head. "I never said girls were mean, silly." Obviously the little one was never going to stop prying. "You don't make me nervous because you, little Blueness, are younger than me. By quite a bit. And Noel doesn't make me nervous because she's like a sister to me." Turning his attention back to Chai he tried to push the kit out once more without success now that her attention had been grabbed by Noel. With a small smile at her antics he looked out to the kit's friend. "I-I suppose s-s-so. She d-doesn't seem to b-b-be cold now."
Noel looked between the three wishes and nodded to the brown female as a greeting. "Hello, I'm Noel." Not quite sure who to give her attention to first she settled her gaze on the kit after a few moments of uncertainty. "Thank you for finding my friend."
"Woah, its a party." Another voice floated through the air and minutes later another male wish pounced into view. "Bwahaha, more victims." Without giving the rest of the group time to react Brinkley swifted bounded around and wrapped ribbons around various parts of the others' bodies.

Blueness smiled, and nodded. "No problem!" she said happily, then turned as she heard yet another wish turn up. As they were tangled with ribbon, she jumped for the strange wishes' feet as he tried to wrap them up, circling around his feet and at one point leaping over his tail a couple times while he strained to not trample her. After all, most grownups did that, she just took advantage of it, managing to tangle him up by the feet and tail too.
As soon as Chai realized what was happening, she fought to get free of the ribbons binding her to the other wishes she barely knew. But the damage was done. Chai turned and glared angrily at the stranger, face contorting to an imperious glare that had always managed to make males shrink from her. "What in the name of the gods was that for, you incompetent ball of fluff?" she demanded, fighting to clear herself of the tangled mess of ribbon and other wishes.
Blueness giggled. "It's not Christmas anymore, silly! Why were you trying to wrap us up? Isn't that a kit's game? Why would a grownup play a kit's game?" She knew that her siblings had done just that with the remains of their presents, trying to tangle each other up and immobilize them with bows, but she thought it was very strange that an adult would do what only kits and babies ever did. After all, mommy and daddy did grownup stuff, and Chai did grownup stuff, and all the other grownups they knew did grownup stuff. She couldn't wait to grow up, and to try out all the things that grownups seemed to do, like responsibililility - whatever that was - and other things, but this grownup seemed to have it ALL backwards.
