World

the world of Rojnod is a troubled place. It seems that once upon a time there was an evil witch who grew so jealous of the beauty of the Princess of the land that she cast a spell. Any who had looked upon the Princess and thought she was beautiful would fall asleep for 100 years, including the Princess, and only the kiss of true love could break the spell.

and so came the Prince, the hero of the story, who was betrothed to his Princess. He had come from a far away land to find that the kingdom that was to be his was frozen and he embarked on a quest to find the Witch with the help of some odd friends along the way and end the spell.

but he never found the Witch.. and time went on.. and in 100 years the kingdom awoke. The Prince is feeble, held together and kept alive only through his firm conviction and noble mission to defeat the Witch, and is now only remembered as the crazy old man that rants and raves of a coming darkness upon the land. Meanwhile somewhere, hidden and far away, the Princess of legend still sleeps.

the Witch grew old as well, but time does not play on the body of a Witch like it does other creatures she disappeared into the slowly recovering masses of Rojnod. As people awoke and began trying to rebuild their lives they also encountered another problem... after 100 years nearly everyone could not remember who they were.

the people have adjusted for the most part now, settled into the lives that they believe they were set in before, simply with little to no sense of History. Everyone seems to remember the social system, recognizing Royalty and Nobility, for certain things such as social classes cannot be forgotten, and they even remember how to use the tools of their trades (swords, hammers, magic) as if they'd never stopped. But the lack of history disturbs many and a few out of that many have ventured forth with a mission.

they people do not know each other. They do not know of each other. They do not know that they are about to have their lives forever entwined.

find the Witch. Find the memories lost to the people of Rojnod.

save the day.

--------------------------

Major Places

Rojnod: The world as the adventures know it. One single continent on a flat world that has only one other island. The only way to travel the oceans safely is on the vessel of well weathered Officers or Pirates.

Nyarob: The ocean. The vastness of this ocean can be measured only by it's edges. At the edge of the world the water runs down and only the gods know where it lands and how it doesn't run dry.

Lynset: The Royal Island. The only landmass that is apart from the mainland is claimed by the Royal family. The King and Queen reside here while they have sent their children off to learn the ways of the world by studying in various monasteries.

Nabrond: The Underworld. When adventurers fail to escape an enemy or simply fall off the edge of the world they are sent to Nabrond. Through extreme cunning or high promises an adventurer can sometimes find a way back to Rojnod.. or if their friends love them enough they can sometimes be rescued by anyone crazy enough to sail of the edge of Nyarob and bring them back.

-------------------

Creatures

Creatures are randomly found as adventurers travel the world of Rojnod. You do not encounter creatures, creatures encounter you.

If you meet the requirements to rid yourself of a creature then you may continue on your merry way, HOWEVER, if you do not meet those requirements or choose NOT to follow them your options are;

1. Run
2. Die

If you decide to run then you can escape your enemy. You may ONLY flee a total of three times before you HAVE to face the requirements of the encounter or die.

Or there's dying. When you die you are sent to the underworld. See Underworld rules for application.

Bears, Wolves, Lions: Wild and un-tamed, but not always aggressive. In some forests it's said that animals can be spoken to if you are in the company of a Witch...

Dragons: Can be found in the air, on water, or on land. Always aggressive, always guarding treasure, will just about ALWAYS kill any number of party members with extreme ease. Can only be convinced to leave an adventurer alone if they hand over a Princess or a Maiden...

Kracken: Will attack any boat that travels far enough from shore which more often than not happens to be ANY boat. Can only be defeated or driven off by the crazy tactics known only to drunken Pirates...

Orcs: Orcs travel in numbers and are vicious and brutal fighters. Often the only thing that can stop an Orc or group of Orcs in the midst of their blood-frenzied attack is the feminine whiles of a woman not afraid to flash a little of their "goods".

Brigands: Brigands are good for one thing and one thing only - killing nobles. While a Nobleman or Noblewoman isn't enough to stay the hands of bandits and keep them from slaughtering anyone who may simply be traveling along for the fun of it, a Prince is. Ransom a Prince to them and they may also give you some coin for the road.

Golem: Golems manifest when too many magic users and magical creatures merge together, taking form in rock, water and air. The only thing that can banish a Golem is a wizard...

Fairies: Fairies are tricksters and extremely malicious sprites. They will stop at nothing to lure careless adventurers into their traps and once there will bargain only the highest of prices to release the adventurer.. maybe. The only being that can wrestle with the will of a Fairy is a Halfling, their lies telling truths only a Fairy can discern

Fairies include: Sprites, Brownies, Nymphs, Mermaids, Dryads, Satyrs, Fauns, Sirens, Wisps and other woodland spirits.

--------------------------

Nabrond (underworld) rules:

No one is above death, Prince, Pirate, or even lowly merchants. However Death is not above a little bit of competition.

Challenge Death to a game and you MAY just win back a one-way trip to your body. You are returned to the place of your death with any time that has passed taking effect. Your companions may be gone, your equipment looted, but you'll be alive.

If you fail your game with Death then there is ONE other way that you can be saved. MAYBE you have someone up on top-side that cares enough for you to come for you in the underworld, is charismatic enough(or knows someone charismatic enough) to sway a pirate into sailing the ocean and braving the Kracken, and MAYBE you know someone tricky enough (or who knows someone tricky enough) to barter a few extra one-way tickets back to top-side...

But that's a lot of maybes.

--------------------------

Skills&Quirks

This RP has a dice-based system of randomizing the role-play encounters and interactions between characters. To maximize the entertainment value and minimize the complications it is settled between two kinds of rolls; Skill rolls and Quirk rolls.

Skill rolls govern the success or failure of the attempt to use any skill that "may" allow the character to use said skill. Ex: Singing, Charismatic, Kreature Killin', etc.

A d20 is used for a Skill roll. A result of 1-15 is a success, a result of 16-20 is a failure.

Quirk rolls govern the success or failure of any character attempting to resist a quirk. Randomly your character may be PMed by Robayn and told to make a quirk roll in the RP for attempting an action in his most recent post. Any situation this may apply falls under quirks that clearly state that a character may face a roll.

A d20 is used for a Quirk roll. A result of 1-15 is a success, a result of 16-20 is a failure.

To sum it up: Only use the d20. A result of 1-15 is always a good thing. A result of 16-20 is always a bad thing.

Additional notes:
Only use one d20, unless a skill allows otherwise.
Always state what skill you are rolling for in OOC brackets.
Never delete a post simply for the sake of re-rolling: that's cheating and I will find where you sleep!

MEPHISTELLA

From the darkness she peers into her magical mirror, it's silver coated depths telling her everything she needs to know, and she watches. A gathering has occurred it seems, a coming together of certain individuals who possess a mark. The mark.

the mark of destiny.

She knows it well for she also has it, branded upon her soul, and she feels its weight almost daily. As she watches them she smiles to herself knowing that they themselves do not know yet, they knew nearly nothing, and she continues to rest in the darkest place as she studies them.

They are children, infants, but soon they will be playing her game. Do they know the rules? Only time will tell.

Kira Nightingale sat near the fire place of the village's quaint and well furbished tavern/inn and finished the last of her meal, soup and bread, by cleaning her slender fingers with the wash bowl provided and soft white cloth. It was such a pleasant community, all eyes that met hers lighting up in a smile that she could only mirror with one of her own, and she was about to settle the bill with the tavern wench when she bumped into a very solid and very short body in her efforts to stand.

"Oh, I'm so sorry!" She exclaimed, her regret only showing more so when she turned to face the soul she had jostled. It was a dwarf, a very hairy, very smelly, and very drunk dwarf with another whom she hoped was not one of the famed bearded women of the same race sitting next to him. She truly hoped he did not mean to take offense to her poor grace.

She saw a flash of drunken anger soften when he turned to her and then it turned into something.. something she wasn't quite sure she recognized.

" 'ow 'bout ye apolergize wit' yer lips swe'art?" Came the thick accent muddled even more by strong drink.

It took her a moment of innocent confusion before Kira could reply, "But I did Sir Dwarf."

The Dwarf's companion let loose a loud barrage of laughter at her response while the one that was now facing Kira growled, a hint of the former anger returning to his eyes, and he persisted.

" A' din't mean dat." He said, struggling now with his own words even more so under the mocking laughter of his table-mate. He made to grab her hand as she began to take a step back from him and missed, grabbing her skirt instead and managing to separate the part enough that he got a glimpse of underneath.

He laughed, refused to drop her skirt even as she attempted to bat his large hand away, and pointed at her.

"Why're oo dressed like a man unner dere? Got some'tin to 'ide?" He leered.

Blushing madly now Kira still struggled to wrestle her skirt from his grip, not embarrassed by the revealing of her travel wear underneath but by the attention the scene was gathering. She smiled at the barkeep and nodded, a silent plea for him to allow her to deal with the situation before it turned violent, and returned her attention to the dwarf.

"It's really not any of your business, now would you get your stubby hands off my skirt please.." She realized her mistake only too late.

"Stubby?" The dwarf before her roared almost at once. "Who're oo callin' STUBBY?!"

Oh dear. She mouthed, withering under the angry glare of the now very angry dwarf.

Alaris

Jace Alaris was crossing through a travleller's village. One where adventurer's of many kinds sought rest, food, and shelter. Most weary from their travels, the village was quite calm for the most part. There was very little, to no activity in the parts away from the Inns, usually filled with outsiders. Some, like himself, respected the citizens and regulars that live there. However, not everyone would be so kind as to be respectful. The closer he came to finding an Inn to stay at, the further into the filth he found himself. Finding a nearby tavern would surely net him the information he needed from a local Barkeep. The sooner he could leave this place the better.

He was not surprised as to what he found. Drunkards. From each corner of the building to another. Of course, it was bar, but there were many levels of drunk... After approaching the barkeep, dodging imbecile after drunkard, one after the other, he was in the process of acquiring his desired information.

"I say, sir. Would be so generous as to aid me for a moment?"

"The drinks aren't free! Pay with silver, or get goin'."

"No, no. You misunderstand. You see I'm trying to find a place to stay? Would you happen to know of the closest Inn with the lowest cos-"

Just as he was about to finish, he overheard a young girl screaming. Naturally, this drew his attention, as it did everyone in the room. When he noticed the screaming was over a Dwarf, attempting to 'impose his will' upon the girl, Jace couldn't help but intervene. Anything to give a dwarf a bad day. They don't always deserve it, so this was a rather glorious treat that fate had given him.

"Excuse me for a moment." He walked up to the girl, robe flowing behind his feet, blue cloak over his shoulders, and book in hand. "I believe the girl has asked you to let her go? Would you please act beyond your nature and be gentlemanly about it and comply?"

"I dun know wut ya think yer doin', Pretty Boy, but I plan on taking this girl home wit' meh. Now mind yer own business, and stop asking meh stupid questions." He looks again at the girl, drooling from inebriation, and thoughts of his future.

"Very well, then. I won't ask again. However..." He forms a fireball so small most wouldn't see it at all, forming around the finger tip of his right index finger. Placing his finger on the dwarfs hand, he smiled as the dwarf screamed in sudden shock and pain, letting go of the girl's dress. "I will not allow you to have your way with this girl. I'm going to tell yo this time. Leave the girl be. It would be of a great service for the community if you just crawled back with your friend into the whole in the ground you sprouted from.

The dwarf now enraged raised his hands with intent to start a brawl. "Come on, brother. Let's get 'em!"

"Oh, it's your brother, is it? Then you can share a hole."

The dwarves attacked him at once, but as he dodged the first and second swing from both with ease, the air around their feet began to lift them up, and out the door of the tavern. As they stood back up, and yelled for vengeance, a well from nearby spat all of it's water at them, causing the townsfolk to both stare in awe, and laugh at the now humiliated drunkards.

He turned to the girl, and bowed his head."I do believe it is safe to say they will not bother you again anytime soon."

Kira couldn't stop herself from gaping in awe along with the villagers who were well within sights of witnessing the open display of magic at the finger tips of the gentlemen who had intervened on her behalf. She watched the dwarves scooped up by an invisible hand and her eyes following them on their way out the door and remained in shock as they were drenched. She did not join in the mocking laughter at the expense of the dwarves, even if they had been very rude, and instead turned her now very large eyes back to her savior.

"Thank you so much.." She began, her eyes traveling him his to his pointed ears. Recognition dawned on her features as she recognized their significance but was polite enough not to comment.

"Thank you." Kira said again more clearly. She still wasn't entirely sure why the Dwarf had been so insistent for she was far to innocent to understand such motives.

"I hope you don't mind me asking, but what brings you to this small village?" She blushed slightly, realizing that she was indeed being quite intrusive to this stranger, but if she could learn why he was here then perhaps she could help him with whatever he had come in seeking.

"You are very welcome. It's not very often I am blessed with the opportunity to save a young maiden, such as yourself. Nor could I be so lucky as a dwarf to be your aggressor. Such vile things, they are. If ever I meet a dwarf with manners, I'll know that I have passed away and sent to a much better place. Until then, I'll settle for these half-wits."

He hears her question, but does not reply right away. He takes a minute to recall what exactly he was doing here. He became so carried away in the his fun that he had actually forgotten why he even came to the tavern.

"Ah! Of course, that's what it was. I was searching for a place to stay, for the night. I have traveled many days since I last saw civilization. I am low on silver, have no gold, and have grown quite weary from my troubles. Most everyone I meet here either avoids strangers, or are not worth speaking too. It is most likely the latter, like the two animals you have just recently come across, that cause the townsfolk to act in a such a manner. 'Tis a pity.

He catches himself rambling on, and stops himself, now concerned with the girl. An inquisitive look comes upon him, focusing on her facial features and garment.

"Now, I have answered your questions. If you would be so kind as to answer mine. What is a fine maiden like yourself doing in a place such as... this wonderful monument to man's 'escape from reality'?

Her brow furrowed slightly with polite concern when he spoke of his need for lodgings and brushed some hair behind her ear as she listened.

"I didn't really think of this place as being all that.. unfortunate. I thought the people were actually very pleasant.." Kira said, her voice trailing off as she glanced about at the people who were apparently not who she thought they were.

"I can't honestly say what I'm doing here. I don't remember.. " The thought obviously troubled her when she attempted to follow it and so she dismissed it with a slight shake of her head and a grin.

"If you're looking for a bed for the night then I should offer you my room so that I might repay you for your kindness, sir." She smiled warmly up to him at the thought of being helpful.

"I've been staying in it since I woke up and it's quite quaint, though a bit small."
PostPosted: Mon Dec 28, 2009 8:50 pm

Alaris

He waves his hand in a single motion, dismissing her offer. it was a kind gesture, but if he had to choose for one of them to have a bed, of course it would be her.

"If it is small, then there will only be enough room for one. I could not take your room for my own, knowing that you would be without. No matter how beaten, tired, or bruised I may be, it is your bed. Though it is yours to give, it is not mine to take. And you repaid me before we even met. You were instrumental in my amusement. Why, were it not for you, I would still be searching for a room... instead of making such wonderful conversation."

Though it sounded happy, he wasn't. Given, Jace was pleased, but it was still for himself. if the conversation were to run dry, he would leave her without a second thought. But, something came to him in the back of his thoughts.

"It is rather strange that you have no recollection of your past. I wonder if it's only a temporary fit of amnesia, that ales you. Perhaps your memory will return shortly."

Those imbeciles from before did swear for revenge. Though, her safety is of no direct concern of mine, she may very well attract them in a larger number. That would be most exciting! I must stay by her side, just in case. I may even learn more about this illness that seemed to affect the entire population of the immediate area.

The girl's innocence allowed him to easily mask his hidden intentions. He planned her no harm, but her naivety would make it very simple for him to pull off the role of a protector.

"Are you not worried at all that those goons will return for you? It would sadden me most deeply to hear of your capture at some later day in my life. Since it was I who infuriated them so, would you permit me to watch over you for a few days or so?" He bows, book in hand sweeping under his chest. "Jace Alaris, at your service m'lady."

Kira smiled gratefully both for his gesture of chivalry and for his comforting words. The thought of memories returning to her would of course be the most that she could hope for, for though she was generally an optimistic person she could not deny that not knowing who she was was discomforting.

"I didn't even think of them returning, though they did mention that they might come back didn't they?" She asked with bright, thoughtful eyes. "Though I don't think they'll be so silly when they sober up I would love to have company for a few days. The only other company I've had was passing conversations and this silly hamster," she paused, gesturing to the case at her side which housed the beast, "but all he does is sleep all the time."

Almost an after thought she curtsied and her voice adopted a more formal tone for the introduction.

"Kira Nightingale, very pleased to meet you sir."

"Ah, but the pleasure is all mine. Then I will be your company, and protector if the need arises. However, in all of my wanderings, I'm afraid I have no single place to go, or any planned destinations. If you have somewhere you must be, I will follow. Otherwise, we could wander the streets together. 'Tis a most beautiful afternoon for a stroll."

He motioned towards the door for her to walk ahead of him, but as she reached for the door, he generated a light breeze, strong enough to blow the door open, without even so much as a tender touch from Kira's hand. As they walked outside, he began towards the road, and turned to her.

"Where is it you would like to go, Ms. Nightingale?"

Tristram closed the door to the room he had occupied for the night in the small village. He had traveled outside his usual high class society to continue research he had been working on over the subtle behaviors of people over a given period of time with slight oddities being placed into the rabble as variables. Most of the oddities he himself had interjected and often found little to any results of significance. Leading him to believe that the simpler folk truly cared little for anything beyond their self preserving bubble. He gave his over coat a few brushes to get a few wrinkles out but found them to be more stubborn than he ways. His attention went to a woman in the tavern, her hair being the key to his initial focus, but then the man, and his blue robes followed.

For the woman her hair said volumes in and of itself. She was obviously not from this area and the tone indicated a more adventurous nature, if not a bit naive at times. Her cloths where that more to a man traveling the wilds looking for gold and tales to tell in exchange for ale. The dirt about her skirt and boots said she was just fresh from the road. Her skirt was not covering everything it should have at that moment, and traces of her undergarment still peaked out. However the skirt looked wrinkled around the area that beheld the undergarments, meaning it had been pulled. The stitching around the top hem of the garment was frayed and pulled loose, showing signs of a struggle for the skirt. The woman's cheeks still held a rosy tone from the blood flushing them, and the few drops of sweat on her head showed the woman had escaped her endeavor by only just a hair.

The man in blue was most likely the source of the woman's salvation from his smile and look of triumph just barely visible around his cheeks and eyes. His ears were pointed, and elf then. His robes blue and bellowing around the man, those spoke wizard, that or prince who traveled with no escort. The elf's finger tip carried trace signs of ash and the floor just below the two was swirled, the dust that laid on the ground swirled in patterns and shapes towards the entrance.

The patrons about the room whispered and conversed in low tones. Tristram caught a few words from several groups and managed to compile a story that fit the scene he saw in front of him. With a sly smile Tristram spun his cane around a few times and caught it under his arm. He slowly began his stole over to the pair.

'A maiden and an elf, most intriguing and fascinating. This should indeed be worth my time to see to further.'

As he neared he heard the woman's name, Nightingale, a truly lovely name, but did not catch the elfs. As he closed the distance he gave a slight bow and introduced himself.

"Good afternoon I am Tristram and I could not help but see the events that took place here and was wondering if I could be of assistance. Ms. Nightingale I presume? I did not hear your name my good elf, what wizarding label shall I call you my friend?"

Jace didn't speak. He merely stared off into a different direction, as if he didn't hear the question. he had no business with what he was almost positive was a nobleman. He had only a few run ins with their kind before, but never could he recall a pleasant one. He decided to let Kira's innocence show first, to see this man's reaction to her child like naivety. Though he was taking advantage of her, to an extent, he knew he meant no harm to the girl. However, he could not say the same for this 'Tristram'.
