The light was so bright it felt like looking into the sun itself. Tara wished she could cover her eyes, but she had to keep holding hands. Holding the line. That was her purpose in life, a voice told her repeatedly. Even if it hurt, even if she died, she had to hold the line.
So she'd find a fishing line and hold on to it, she told the voice irritably. Did she need to see this on instant replay? Not really. She yawned, pushing the voice and the light away, and opened her eyes.
White ceiling, check. Electric bed, check. Hospital gown, check. She was still in the hospital. Damn it all. Why couldn't that part be a dream too?
Tara tried to sit up, but found she didn't have enough energy to it. She felt worse than when she'd tried to go to both cheerleading practice and lightsaber combat while battling a cold. Worse, because this time there was so much information that she had no way to connect to anything else, and no way to test any of it out. What was a dream and what was real? What was she supposed to do once her body decided it could move again?
Stifling the urge to scream- authority figures never looked on her kindly when she did that- she rolled onto her side and reached for the person in the next bed over. "Psssst. Do you know what the deal with all this stuff is?"
A vague question got vague answers, but any answers would be better than none.

Pierrette was having a dream. In it, there was a beautiful princess. Pierrette wasn't sure how she knew that the woman was a princess, especially since she was in imposing armor, but she was. Her visits were sparse, but Pierrette always looked forward to them.
"Do you... with all this stuff..."
Her vision of the princess grew fuzzy, and Pierrette opened her eyes. Her body felt like lead, and the blankets were wound so tightly around her that even if she had wanted to move, it would've been difficult. Her hair was undone and splayed out behind her, and it smelled like she had showered recently. Yes, she remembered her host mother helping her into the shower. She had been hallucinating about crystal fish flying from the shower-head. Huh. Talk about feeling loopy.
"I'm sorry," Pierrette looked over at Tara, someone she didn't know. Wait-- yes she did. She had held hands with her--
hold the line.
Aquarius.
"I just woke up..." Pierrette rubbed her temples. "I guess we're in a hospital. ... Are we still alive? Well, that's a silly question..."
She trailed off, not quite sure how to answer.

"Don't apologize, man. Girl. Whatever." Tara shrugged, or at least moved her shoulders in a way that suggested a shrug if her body didn't feel like steak tar tare. Something about this girl was familiar, but with all the memories invading her poor overworked mind, it was difficult to be sure.
She leaned over farther, trying to pat the girl on the shoulder, and almost fell out of bed. Too soon, apparently. "I've woken up once or twice, but that's all I know. And it's not a silly question, considering...." Considering she'd spent a fair amount of time walking around without being alive. Sure, that other awesome girl had made her alive again, but undeath was always a possibility.
Suddenly scared, Tara held up her hands and examined them carefully under the bright hospital lighting. No claws, no traces of green. Maybe a little unhealthy, but not dead. Letting out a sigh of relief, she winked at Pierrette. "I guess we are. That's a good place to start." She paused, not sure she wanted to admit to having Silly Putty for brains at that moment. "Do you... uh. What do you remember?"
