It was often that Thali looked forward to a class, but she had looked forward to this one more than most. She had recently learned that she would be teaching 'Zuba again; their last class had been a success. She had a light lesson plan for the spawn. She would teach 'Zuba how to float. The elf herself couldn't quite manage it, but she knew it in theory. She hoped that would be enough.

She sat at her desk, awaiting the arrival of one of her favorite students--okay, so they were all her favorite. She really hoped 'Zuba would like this lesson; and maybe she would bring her shadow too? The elf wondered how things were going for 'Zuba and the shadow--and if the teenager had even thought to give it a name.

'Zuba walked into the classroom, offering a small wave to the elf. "G'day, Mrs. Sadril." she greeted, smiling a little as she took a seat in one of the chairs. The last class hadn't been too bad, and she hadn't done that terribly. Perhaps she'd do even better this time? The thought was only there for a moment, but it was there.

"What's today's lesson?" she asked, smiling and, dare I say, eager? She wanted to learn more, to broaden her horizons. Then, she could be just as good as everyone else, who had awesome skills and know-how. She wanted that. She wanted to be able to awe people, to gain and actually deserve praise. She knew she had a far way to go, but she would try!

Thali was delighted that 'Zuba seemed to be happy to be here; that was a first. "Good afternoon to you as well, 'Zuba," she greeted with a smile. "But you don't have to call me Mrs. Sadril, you know. That makes me feel old. Besides; friends call each other by their first names. I'm Thali." Thrilled that 'Zuba appeared to be in a much better mood than when she had taught her last, she continued, "I was thinking I could teach you to float," she said.

Honestly, the elf had no idea how well this lesson would work. She only knew how to float by theory, she was unable to do it herself. "Unless you have any suggestions? I am sorry 'Zuba, I didn't have a proper lesson plan made out for you. Do you have anything you would especially like to learn? Or something you can think of that might be useful to you in the future?"

"Improper to call teachers by first name." 'Zuba pointed out, smiling a little. Her face brightened at the word "float". She was going to learn to float, like her genetic father? AWESOME! She'd love to float; after all, her DNA donor got to float, and her sister got to fly. It wasn't fair; she deserved to have some form of pseudo-flight at the very least!

"I'd love that!" 'Zuba said, grinning. "Always wanted to float."

Thali frowned slightly. What was it about students and refusing to call her by her first name? "Now I don't know about improper," she started, her usual smile returning to her lips. "If a teacher requests you to call them by their first name, it must be proper to do so." She paused, watching the girl's expression.

The elf was relieved. She had been uncertain of what to teach her friend's daughter, and was quite glad that the girl wanted to learn to float. "Well, floating's not something I actually know how to do," she told 'Zuba with a sheepish smile, "but I think theory should help. I'm not quite sure how to explain it though--I know Vincent is able to do it without flapping--" she gestured to the girl's headwing. "So the fact that you have one shouldn't matter. I think it's a form of telekenesis--except you're moving yourself rather than an object. So--I believe that's it. Just focus on what you want to happen--and hopefully it'll work?"

'Zuba paused, thinking over what Mrs. Sadril said. "Alright, compromise?" she offered, smiling lightly. "Mrs. Thali." And that was that; her mind was set. After all, it was a pretty fair compromise in her opinion. She hoped her mother's friend wouldn't mind much.

'Zuba was about to do what was suggested when she felt something....odd. Oh no. An all-too-familiar chanting of "Nini! Ni ni! Ni!" came from somewhere in the room. 'Zuba groaned; no now. Now was NOT the time.

The little black shadowy form giggled, grabbing the purse it found on the desk before sitting on the floor. Ooh, what was this? "Niiii?" it chattered, opening it up and sticking its head in to look.

Thali silently thought that Mrs. Thali was even worse, but she decided not to comment on it. She knew a compromise when she heard one. Still, she couldn't see the point in not calling her by her first name. She paused and glanced around; ears twitching. What was that sound?

She looked around, and gave a smile when she caught sight of the shadowy being. "I take it she isn't listening to your commands yet," she said, glancing at 'Zuba. "Or did you summon her?" She was amused; it looked like she wouldn't be teaching 'Zuba to float this lesson. "Alright, change of plans. I'm going to teach you how to control your shadow--so she doesn't turn up at inconvient times; or cause too much mischief for you and your daughter." She watched the shadowy form with curiousity for a moment. "A toddler," she wondered. Why was the shadow a toddler?

"Listening to commands? She comes when she wants, and the only time she responds to me is to glomp my leg and try and knock me over with affection." Ooh, 'Zuba had pulled out the full sentences; she was annoyed. Not only was Nini going through her teachers purse, now she couldn't learn to float because of her! Gah! The spawn pouted, disappointed. True, she did need to learn to handle Nini, but still!

Nini ignored the solid peoples as they talked, preoccupied with her current task. "Ni~" it purred, giggling as she pulled out a silver shiny; Thali's car keys. The little shadow clapped her hands together, keys in between it's little hands. When the hands pulled apart....the keys were no where in sight. The little shadow had another interesting object for her collection! "Ni! Nini!" she chirped as she began pulling coins out of the teachers purse. Yay shinies!

Thali was not pleased, no not pleased at all. The lesson plan had been ruined--not that there had been any plan in the first place--and now the shadow was stealing her things. She didn't care about the money; no, she could always get more of that. But her car keys? A frown crossed her elven features. "You need to tame your shadow," she said, glancing at 'Zuba. "She is very disobedient. I've never met a shadow like this one--they never have minds of their own. They're supposed to come only when you call them, and do only what you ask them to."

The elf was puzzled. Why wasn't the shadow obeying 'Zuba? Had she forgotten an important part in the summoning?

'Zuba sighed, face-palming. "I've tried." she said, standing up. "She's cooperative. When she wants to be." The spawn made her way over to the little shadow, putting on her best stern face. "Nini. Give that back." she said, taking a hold of the purse. She intended to get the purse away from the little thing first, then work on getting her teacher's stuff back. Ah, the joys of having a sentient shadow.

"Ni! Nini!" the little thing whined in protest, little hands keeping a grip of the bag of shinies. It was hers! She found it, which made them her shinies! And she wasn't done looking through the shinies! "Niiiiiii...." Nini tugged on the bag, trying to get it back.

"Nini, no." 'Zuba said firmly, trying to pull the bag away. For such a little thing, she had a pretty strong grip. With one last tug, Azubahiel managed to wrench the bag away from the shadow, falling backwards onto her derriere in the process. She frowned, then looked at Thali. "Here." she said, looking more than a bit embarrassed as she tossed the purse back to her teacher.

Thali paused, she was slightly puzzled by this. She'd never met a shadow like this before, and it interested her to say the least. "A shadow with a personality all it's own..." she said vaguely, her eyes lit in a curious fashion. "I suppose she's a toddler then, judging by the size of her. Or can she change sizes for the task at hand? Mine always could--but I was controling them, so I don't know if she'd be different."

Thali took the purse and gave a grateful smile. "So your name's Nini?' she asked, looking to the shadow. "Can I have my keys back? They're rather important, and I'm sure I can find you something else you'd like even better. Trade?"

"She's always this size." 'Zuba said, sighing as she looked over to her troublesome little shadow. As cute as the little bloop was, that didn't hide the fact that she was a hyperactive little thief who made life difficult. "I've tried putting her in time out. She just disappears." the spawn muttered, sighing.

Nini nodded, confirming her name with a small "ni!". The little shadow paused a moment, thinking. "Niiiiiii ni?" she said, her tone showing it was a question. More than likely, it was along the lines of "Like what?" Nini may have had the mentality of a three year old, but she wasn't stupid! If it wasn't shiny enough or pretty enough, she wasn't trading.
