Kaito loved playing in the dark. Most of his family never got up for the sunlight anyways and the child was unused to early morning activity. Though he was told several times to never leave the castle alone, Kaito found himself outside anyways. Yet, this time it wasn't pitch black like usual. The afternoon light tickled his unaccustomed eyes as he looked up. The sun was lingering in the sky still and he knew that both parents would be asleep still.
The boy pouted. How was he to climb back inside?! Around his feet the shadows danced angrily. Others, especially those that he had accidentally slipped through, taunted him with their wavering shapes.
'Mommy and Daddy never wants me to use 'em yet.' Kaito remembered the scary in between place that he had once gotten stuck into and shivered. So scary!
Kaito shrugged. It seemed he was stuck outside once again. The cold didn't even bother him as he turned back towards the snow filled woods. Might as well take an early evening stroll - maybe he would find someone to help him! Or a playmate.
With a giggle the boy started running away from his home and into the forest.

Out in the forest, a tall blonde woman was taking a walk and sort of showing her daughter the scenery. A little girl with pink pigtails and a snakey tail was curled in her arms and looking about curiously.
After a while, they came to a spot where the infant ended up able to spot Kaito. She let out a loud meow and reached for the child, not quite understanding how far away he was.

Kaito pushed through several bushes before finally tumbling out into plain sight. The boy's face made an 'o' of surprise as he spotted the woman and the little girl. "Eh!" He gasped and was torn between hiding and running to them.
When she reached out, Kaito jumped. His eyes sparkled in curiosity though by now especially since he noticed the snake tail. "Hiii!" He called out with a big wave.

"Hey there." Lam called pleasantly, adjusting Cookie so the tot was under her arm and could reach better.
The small one mewed happily, still reaching for the strange boy. "Looks like Cookie wants to play with you."

Kaito tilted his head, "Coo-kie?" He repeated softly. Was that the girl's name? He grinned. Play! That sounded fun! "Swure!" He nodded and ran up to them excitedly. All thoughts of home were forgotten at the rare opportunity to play with someone new.
"Iz Kaito!" He bowed in a playful attempt to copy his father's grace. Kaito's tail waved playfully behind him as he giggled.

The chimera child purred as her name was said, clapping her hands a bit and twitching her nose and ears. She was a rather strange thing - not completely human in her behaviors - but still very playful and fun as any little child could be.
"Yes, Cookie's her name. Nice to meet you Kaito" Lam said with a grin, bowing a bit herself and smiling. "I'd set her down on the snow but she doesn't like it. So you'll have to play with her up here unless we go elsewhere." the woman told him with a nod.

Kaito laughed as he heard the purr. That was so cool! She almost reminded him of the stray cat that hung around his home. It made Kaito excited to be able to play with Cookie. "Nice ta meetcha." He replied grinning.
"Aww...no like snow?" The boy frowned slightly, not really realizing that unlike him she probably felt the cold. Still his tail twitched eagerly as he thought of something. "Oh, oh!" He pointed back from where he had come from. Down there was that one area that Mommy always had cleared! No snow would be there 'cept for a little.

Cookie flicked her tail when looking down at the snow and shook her head a bit.
"No, Cookie's tail tends to get super cold when it's in snow and she doesn't like that." the blonde explained before Kaito started to point. "Oh, what's over there?" she inquired pleasantly, "Your home?"

"Oh, cold?" Kaito tilted his head curiously before jumping. "Umm...yeah- no!" He grinned sheepishly, "Follow!" He waved them over and started running through the woods towards a little sheltered area that had a gazebo. The only other thing in the clearing besides a dead garden was a small frozen pond. Kaito loved his mother's spring sanctuary, it was one of his favorite play places.
No snow coated the gazebo and Kaito smiled proudly. "Here no snow!" He giggled as his tail twitched happily. Without knowing it he had small shadows flickering behind him.

Cookie purred when they managed to get to the gazebo. No snow was good! Lam laughed and removed her large outer coat just the same to lay on there. "The ground's liable to be a bit cold still so she'll have to sit on this." the woman explained, setting her daughter down then.
Cookie purred, tail curling and uncurling as she reached up her little clawed hands for Kaito. She mewed a tad, eyes wide and excited to play.

"Kay-Kay~" Kaito grinned, this was gonna be fun! He felt like he hadn't been able to get outside in forever and the boy was finally getting another breath of fresh air.
The boy tilted his head in curiosity as Cookie reached out her hands. With a grin he reached out too and touched her hands. "What ta play?" He asked Cookie eagerly. If they couldn't leave the gazebo - then tag and stuffs with lots of movement and room would be out of the question. Kaito paused thoughtfully as he looked at Cookie.

Cookie made one noise - the only word she had ever said at all besides mewing and making kitty noises. "Boing!"
Soon as Kaito had taken her hands she pulled up on them and then slammed her body back on the ground, bouncing once and repeating the motion, sending the two airborne.
"Oh dear." Lam laughed, following under the pair as Cookie half dragged her new friend through the air. "Looks like Cookie wants to go flying with you hon, better hang on tight." she suggested, reaching up to help him swing onto the little one's back. She may not be very strong on land but when flying, his weight was nothing.

"Boing?" Kaito's eyes widened as they went bouncing and then flying! Flying! The boy giggled happily as he held onto Cookie. This was fun! His eyes opened as he watched everything going by. "Go, go!"
He laughed lightly and giggled as shadows swirled above them on the gazebo's roof. He loved heights! "Cookie amazing!" Cried Kaito as they flew more.

Cookie giggled, her arms spread wide as she zoomed about, her hands pushing off of the pillars of the gazebo now and then to turn them. She'd learned lots about turning at home. It kept her from going smashy smashy into the wall.
Lam laughed, "Just be careful to stay inside and don't get dizzy."

Kaito giggled and reached out for a pillar. With ease the boy pushed them back around again. "I can push!" He called out to Cookie before smiling at Lam. They would be careful!
The only thing that could go wrong was one small thing. But Kaito wasn't really expecting those things to act up again so soon. Especially with a friend around! Afta all they never misbehaved around his family so far.
His eyes widened in shock though as a gaping hole opened in front of Cookie, "No Cookie!" Kaito screamed but was muffled as the shadows closed around the two of them. With a shiver the boy looked around in the dark depths of the in between.
"No worries..." He whispered as he looked around. Where was that exit?
