Some woman jumped the Pope while walking down the main aisle at Christmas eve mass. Yahoo- APThey say she was mentally unstable and that's the story as of right now. I'm waiting for all of the conspiracy theories to pop up and/or Dan Brown to start a new book on it. At least the Pope was okay, I mean he's 82 years old after all, hopefully the Cardinal who was taken to the hospital is fine too sad

I know someone whose mother tried to chase down the Pope. Or did... I forgets which.
The Pope must be one hunk of a man. All these old ladies on his tail.

Of course he's sexy. Just look at all the phallic imagery he displays xd .
On a more serious note. If she's probably going to be excommunicated because not mistaken, attacking a priest, Bishop, or Pope is pretty much an automatic excommunication but they might make special concessions if she's mentally unstable.

LOL. No one touches the Pope, he was a part of Hitler's youth, you just don't mess with that.
I don't know this Pope too well but my Sister-In-Law knew the John Paul very well, JPII would have laughed this off.

He got knocked over and he's fine. It's not like she was going to shoot him. What if she just wanted to touch the Pope or got overly exited and knocked into him when getting through the crowd to meet him. I can see banning her from being around him but excommunication??

Ha! Roman Catholics don't care if your mentally unstable. The ONLY reason they might not excommunicate her is because of the publicity.

Yes excommunication is a risk for her. Code of Canon Law Can. 1370 §1. A person who uses physical force against the Roman Pontiff incurs a latae sententiae excommunication reserved to the Apostolic See; if he is a cleric, another penalty, not excluding dismissal from the clerical state, can be added according to the gravity of the delict. §2. A person who does this against a bishop incurs a latae sententiae interdict and, if he is a cleric, also a latae sententiae suspension. §3. A person who uses physical force against a cleric or religious out of contempt for the faith, the Church, ecclesiastical power, or the ministry is to be punished with a just penalty. Though if she is found to be incompetent then there might be either a lesser penalty or no penalty at all.

Because the Roman Catholic church has rules that go back centuries. They live by those rules. They don't like change. It is tradition based. So to overlook what appears to be a direct attack on the Pope and to pardon her even if she is mentally unbalanced would be an affront to that tradition that they cling to. Like I said, if they do it it will be because to excommunicate a mentally retarded person will bring controversy from the general population around the world.

Tradition is most definitely a large part of the Church but what the Church teaches isn't in agreement with the statements you are making and if you believe that the practice of taking into consideration the mental health of the individual is only a product of concern for PR then I'm going to have to ask you for proof otherwise it's nothing more then your opinion and it should be stated as such. CCC 1735 Imputability and responsibility for an action can be diminished or even nullified by ignorance, inadvertence, duress, fear, habit, inordinate attachments, and other psychological or social factors.
