Who: Vyn, Thorn, Rivener & Beauregard. When: Lunch has been eaten and it's the perfect time for a stroll. [Date is set just after Christmas.] Where: The Gambino park. Weather: Pleasant considering it is a December day. Thorn could barely contain his excitement as Vyn began exhibiting the tell tale signs that he was about to receive a walk. First she would go to Ethan; they would exchange a rumble of words that he didn’t understand. Yes – that was what was happening and... Yes! The grey haired man had given her an approving nod! He could understand that! At this point he intercepted her and scrambled around the bottom of her ribbon. It was so exciting that he couldn’t resist the lure of the fluttering black bait. As expected she floated to her room to gather what she required for the walk and whilst she did that he bounded up onto her bed, watching her with his tail wagging profusely. Once she had collected the required stuff from her room she donned her outside wear and finally clipped his lead onto his collar. Now they could begin!
Squirming forwards he allowed her to scoop him up to her bosom. It was fun riding so high and seeing the world from his mistresses point of view. They continued like this whilst they descended in the big silver box and exited through the foyer with the slippery cold floor. When they hit the street he was placed down again much to his delight. The outside world was so full of smells that he had to pause for a second, drawing deep sniffs through his wet back nostrils. Dirt, car exhausts, fellow dog’s scent marks, cooked food, rubbish, perfume of the old woman across the street. He tugged on his lead, so much to explore and experience. His mistress obliged his desire to move onwards and they began the usual route to the most interesting place of all...
The park; that huge green expanse was like heaven to the black little pug. Something was different every single time – whether it was different company (many other dogs also enjoyed the area) or friendly treat giving children or even just fresh new scents for him to relish. Today he was looking forward to it just as much as any other day and as he and his raevan owner entered through the ornate iron gates his tail moved up a gear from ‘mildly excited’ to ‘about to pee unless you let me off the lead’. Having had the pug’s bladders fail on her several times before the rose unhooked the clasp and allowed him to dash off, though she kept her dark eyes trained on him as he bounded across the turf – the park was a big place for such a small dog.
Thorn of course was not worried in the slightest about getting lost, whilst relieving himself on a patch of tufty grass his main thoughts were on what to do next – bother the squawky creatures at pond or explore the bush in hope of discovering a rabbit hole to sniff?

A walk was always a calming experience. Riv had not much time lately to be on his own, and while he did relish the new companions at home, he found himself missing his solitude a little bit. A short explanation (I'm taking Beaubeau for a walk!) was all that was needed for the Scorpion to earn himself a nice, leisurely couple of hours.
Beauregard didn't need to be asked twice, either. The floating whale ADORED Christmas time. All his singing revolved around holiday themes at this time of year, and instead of the strange stares he'd normally get, he received cheerful (but still baffled) grins. The baritone bobbed from side to side as the floating pair entered the park, crooning out a rather soulful version of "rudolph the rednosed reindeer".
It was Beaubeau himself who first spotted Vyn, his wide eyes seeking out an audience for his music. The whale noticed the girl resembled his own floating escort in that she was lacking the parts that connected to the ground. She MUST be a friend of all floating things, then! Humming, Beaubeau hurried towards the girl. He had just the right song for her!
"On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to meee~..."
Rivener soon showed up as well, grinning as he'd noticed who Beauregard had been dashing off towards. "Vyn!" he greeted cheerfully. "Merry Christmas!" Hoping he wasn't overstepping the boundaries (he knew the girl wasn't fond of invasions to her personal space), Riv carefully and gently floated forward to give her a brief hug. "I'm uh, glad to see you feeling better. I'd heard you fell sick too." He smiled sheepishly, suddenly recalling the last time he'd seen her: when she'd kicked him out of Lucia's party.

In the end Thorn had opted to do neither of the activities he had been weighing up as shortly after he had scampered off his mistress had been approached by a stranger. The wonders of the park were tempting, yes, but Thorn felt it his duty to investigate the newcomer and if necessary make him back away from Vyn – the fact that he was tiny in comparison didn’t even register in the dog’s mind. Thus he bounced back across the green expanse, little black legs covering the distance in record time so that he could wedge himself firmly between his woman and the man, sitting at the base of her chaotic ribbon regarding Rivener. It actually came as a relative surprise that the newcomer didn’t have legs to n** at if he approached too quickly... Thorn had been so eager to return double time that he hadn’t even given the man a cursory glance. Now that he was sitting still and had time to take in his features – a ribbon, wings, a glowy thing, even similar colours to his mistress. All concerns were dropped and he shot forwards, nosing the slightly spiked ribbon playfully.
Unfortunately a raucous outburst of sound from above put a dampener the dog’s affectionate greeting. His swat face peered upwards to spy a gaudy underbelly floating right at his mistress producing a racket that he had been hearing all over the place recently – though this was the first time he’d been able to identify the source. Well. He’d soon put a stop to the nuisance. Speaking from his belly he barked at the noisy creature to shut up.
Vyn tutted at her pet’s sudden outburst at the singing whale, he was yapping away – scrambling in the flying creature’s shadow as if he was waiting for it to land so he could get at it. “Thorn shush.” She scolded, bending down swiftly and tapping the pug on the nose. After that he whined once but remained quiet, placing his bottom moodily on the pavement. Turning her attention back to her older brother she returned his festive greeting. “The same to you Rivener. Merry Christmas.” She didn’t mind the hug that much but was glad that he kept it short and sweet. “Yes, much better..” Almost reflexively she brushed her cheeks where the petals had peeled from. Last time she and Rivener had spoken it had ended badly, but both of them had been ill therefore that clouded memory of the virus could be discarded. “Who is this then?” Vyn gestured to the floating whale still serenading her, slightly smiling at his tiny bow-tie and candy-cane chest.
Thorn couldn’t believe it. He had been quieted whilst the flying abomination was allowed to continue making all that noise. Drooping his head and putting his tail between his back legs he slumped to the floor. The wind was well and truly taken out of his sails.

Rivener's sheepish smile grew back into his usual broad grin. Vyn didn't seem angry with him in the least! The Scorpion could assume she either didn't recall the time they'd fought, or she understood that neither of them had been accountable for their actions during that terrible time. Whatever the case, the Sigel felt a large weight lifted off his chest. He was more than glad to move on from that particular topic, turning his gaze to Beauregard when the rose frei asked who the little crooner was.
"That's Beaubeau. I mean, his name's Beauregard, but we all call him Beaubeau. He belongs to Isi, and he's from the Lab too! He's one of those weird things Dr Kyou concocts once in a while. ...He never shuts up. He's not bothering you, is he?" Rivener leaned down as he spoke, bringing a hand to Thorn's head and scritching lightly. He recalled the little pug from the time they'd learned of Gage's death... The little dog didn't seem to find Beaubeau very interesting at all, poor pup.
Beauregard basked in the attention he was receiving from the girl, her barely-there smile inspiring a new song. "Chestnuts roasting on an open fiiire... Jack-frost nipping at your nose!" He floated forward and brushed a fin onto the tip of Vyn's nose before spinning off to continue the singing. He would give her a show worthy of a FULL smile! As long as that little creature below didn't interrupt again!
Honestly. Some people just didn't appreciate art.

Ah yes, Vyn knew about the oddities that the Doctor occasionally created, her home was inhabited by a few now – the flower birds that Ethan had gained around the same time as her rehoming and more recently the trio of taste angels. This singing creature seemed relatively pleasant compared to the angels, who hadn’t stopped causing trouble since they’d popped out of the gift boxes they’d arrived in – so much so Ethan had threatened to shut them in a box till next Christmas. “No, he’s fine Rivener.” She flinched at his little flipper touch to the nose but her half smile returned as he continued to belt out the Christmas carols. “He can certainly produce quite some volume.”
Thorn couldn’t contain his frustration. The animal floating above was still making an awful noise and his delicate senses did not appreciate the battering that they were receiving – not only was the creature’s noise atrocious but it stuck pretty badly too, like fish and since he wasn’t a cat it smelt pretty rotten. When Rivener extended a comforting hand he whined pitifully, rubbing his head up against the broad palm of the male, cramming his battered ears pitifully into the other’s flesh in an attempt to block out the noise. (The men didn’t smell much better though – the scent of him stung Thorn’s delicate nostrils with a sour tang of Rivener’s venom) There appeared to be to stopping the crooning wails of the dastardly animal and Thorn could only attempt to disrupt it with his whining; raising the pitch to a heart wrenching whimper.
Wondering what on Earth could be upsetting her pet so much Vyn also dipped to his level, though unlike the scorpion she did not simply pat him – she took him up lifting him to the same level as the whale. “Look Thorn...” She lifted him out, hands under his front legs so he was hanging between her and the singing whale, “he’s harmless.”
When his mistress had stooped down again he had expected another scolding for his interrupting thus his tail had ducked even further between his legs, but to his surprise she’s lifted him up rather comfortingly – patting his head and murmuring softly. Then she had swung him out nearer to the creature. Thorn could hardly believe it! Was she aiding him in tackling the previously unreachable foe? Imbued with a new determination he wiggled, tensed and squirmed out of her helpful grip; covering the distance between himself and the whale and successfully nipping its fin in his mouth. The fall was a little painful, but he landed adeptly enough to scramble away, dragging the abysmal fish with him!
He knew exactly where to dispose of it!

Rivener grinned over at Beaubeau while Vyn praised the little whale's pipes. It's true that the critter could produce quite the belting solo when he wanted: it would no doubt echo throughout the park as clear as an opera singer's. "He's an expert," Riv explained. "He used to sing like this ever since I met him. Eiry wasn't even born yet!" It suddenly occurred to Rivener how old the little whale was. How long did singing, floating whales live anyway?
The Sigel got up along with Vyn, watching her lift the puppy Thorn and try to make the two pets meet on friendly terms. How cute. Riv reached into his pocket for his camera, wanting to preserve this cute image forever. Just as he aimed the shutter towards the three, something wholly unexpected happened.
Beaubeau yelped as little teeth snapped onto his fin, a weigh dragging the floating whale down to the ground. While Thorn landed clumsily enough, Beauregard bounced onto the ground like a rubber balloon, screaming (in a very melodious fashion still) as he was dragged away helplessly.
Rivener had pressed the shutter, capturing Vyn's surprised expression, the back-end of Thorn's falling body and Beaubeau's wide-open mouth as he was pulled down. The Scorpion would only realize this later, as his attention was far from the camera at the moment. "BEAU!" he yelled, hurrying after Thorn and trying to get a hold on the little whale.
Beauregard reached out for Rivener with one long fin, screaming in a full scale of notes. Just as the Scorpion's clawed fingers were about to close around the hopeful whale's fin, the pair of critters dove into the underbrush of a nearby hedge. Riv shoved his arm blindly through the branches but couldn't reach anything.
From somewhere unseen in the bushes, the first few verses of "I need a Hero" began.

Stunned at the flash of the camera it took the dog’s owner a second or two to register what exactly had happened, and by the time her little black furred pet was well on his way running off dragging the poor singing whale with him! Mirroring her elder brother she turned and made a dash after the pair of pets though her exclamation was her dog’s name, not Beau. “Thorn! Stop! No!” But she too was too slow and had to stop when the bush prevented her from following. What would the dog do to the whale? He had never acted so rashly before and she was fairly sure that the whale would be left unharmed (besides the n** on the fin) though the desperate singing of the animal did make her wonder... “Thorn, please come back. Leave him alone.” She cooed, dipping down to where the dog had punched a hole in the tangled growth. Crimson with embarrassment Vyn glanced apologetically at Rivener... "He's not normally like this!"
The annoying creature was still singing as he dragged it through the bush! He just wanted it to close it’s loud mouth and be quiet and if that meant taking it on a little trip then so be it. However, this jungle of leafy twiggy fingers wasn’t the best place to be since his speedy dash had been reduced to an awkward crawl which meant that the opposing animal could kick up a proper fuss by flailing in the undergrowth.
Clamping his teeth deeper into the fin – though not deep enough to break the skin, he didn’t actually want to hurt it even if it’s noise was hurting his delicate ears like nails down a chalkboard – he headed for a section of the bush that didn’t seem as clustered with ensnaring fingers of growth. However, to get there he had to duck beneath a root... It didn’t cause a problem for him but the bulbous whale he was dragging got stuck. Releasing his hold he backed up, examining the wailing nuisance. Its round body was well and truly wedged. How irritating. He yapped out his vexation before taking hold of it and heaving again. He fully intended to carry out his hastily thought up plan! Leaving the annoyance simply trapped wasn’t good enough... He wanted to mute it completely!
Heave! Heave! HEEEEEAVE! He would get the whale though!

Rivener frowned over at Vyn, lips drawn tight. "Get your mutt back over here with my Whale! Isi'll kill me, and Eiry will cry, and Aphi will sigh and think How typically irresponsible, and god dammit I really love that little Whale too! If your ******** dog kills him, I'm going to snap his fat little neck!" The Scorpion was lashing out without thinking of Vyn's feelings, a mistake he might regret later. For now, all he could think about was how the song had suddenly squeaked to a halt after a very off-key high-octave D.
Beauregard thrashed as best he could, trying to hook his tail on something and pull himself free. Not the best of plans, as "pulling himself free" would necessitate yanking his fin out of a rather toothy grip.
Speaking of those teeth, they suddenly grabbed harder, throwing Beauregard's rendition of "I Need a Hero" all out of whack. He sang off-key for a second and then just stopped, large round eyes glittering with water. That hurt! Was this the end of Beauregard the whale?! The world will mourn the loss of Art!
Suddenly there were roots all around the rounded body, trapping Beau into place. His scream of surprise was a perfectly-toned major scale, from C to B and back again. And ah, the furry menace let go of its fin! Was this its plan, then?! Trap it here forever? The thing yapped in a horribly un-melodic way, causing Beau to quirk his large lips disapprovingly, and then it came back in teeth-first! Beauregard flailed his fins and tried to bat the thing in the face, but Thorn caught his fin again and puuuuuulled at it until-
Pop!, Beaubeau shot out of the root-prison, bumping into the puppy.
Frantic to get away before who knew what else happened, Beau began screaming his next song at the top of his lungs: "Thriller" by Micheal Jackson, an always-appreciated fall-back of Beau's. It was always sure to please, and in this situation he knew (hoped!) it would help his half-bodied companion find him!!!
Rivener gasped at the sudden song, getting up off the ground and floating OVER the bushes, trying to track down the sound. "BEAU! THORN, you little pest, STOP THAT RIGHT NOW or so help me-!!" Ah, there, a flash of rubbery skin! But the branches here were still too thick! "VYN, damnit, DO something!!!"

Snap. His. Fat. Little. Neck.
The scorpion’s words rung out painfully clear in the fresh park air and each aggressive syllable hit the rose with such force that she flinched. Her elder brother was fuming with anger – his fists were balled and his wings were raised in the tell tale strike position (though she was sure it was an involuntary instinct and her sibling wouldn’t hurt her) - but she knew that his violent retorts were unnecessary. Yes, Thorn was being disobedient right now and had the poor little whale hostage, however she knew the pup well enough to know that he would never intentionally hurt or maim another creature beyond repair. Thus Rivener’s harsh words bit deep and she responded with equal anger. “You will not.” Her hurt dark eyes torn into the back of his head as he floated around to the other side of the bush. “If you dare Rivener... I’ll...” She didn’t quite know what she would do but the vivid emotions that were responding the threat against her pet certainly ensured that the threat had some substance even if she didn’t have the same defined aggression that the male had.
Thorn gave a short sharp yelp as the irritation shot out of the trap and bapped him straight on the snout. Whining he recovered to discover the whale was attempting to get away, yet the mesh of twigs and growth prevented any serious threat of his captive escaping and the dog forged onwards with his plan. He wasn’t normally the type of dog that enjoyed digging holes. He was more refined than that – his little furred mitts were applied to padding around and living the life of luxury in the penthouse belonging to his mistress. However, his desperation to silence the whale led him to put aside his rather pampered upbringing and scrabble at the loose earth like his life depended upon it. The whale’s keeper’s voice barked at him nearby and he paused in his scrambling – a worm wiggling away from the frenzied paws. He had to act fast... Was the hole deep enough? Well, he didn’t have time for any more digging; the man’s large hands were prying through the twigs and grasping at the noisy nuisance!
Following Rivener Vyn hastily floated over the overgrown shrub and glanced down through the leaves and joined him looking down upon their pets. Thorn was going for Beau again, pinching his tail this time and... Placing him in a hole? Vyn frowned totally at a loss for what her dog was doing, at any rate – Thorn wasn’t hurting the singing marine creature. However, the urgent angry swiped that the scorpion was making through the plant made her continue to urge Thorn to leave the fish alone.
Now Thorn had manoeuvred the pesky creature into the hole – walking over its rotund body so that it would squeeze into the snug fit - he had to cover it up with dirt. When that was complete he could leave it and scramble back outside to his mistress safe with the knowledge that the awful noise producing animal wouldn’t be able to bother him again! That was worth the heartbreak of disobeying Vyn. Quickly and with vigour he kicked up the loose ground and starting heaping it onto of the peppermint skin of the animal, muffling the racket as he smattered its face with mud.

Rivener watched everything helplessly, blinking as the puppy grabbed the disoriented and confused whale, throwing it into a hole and starting to cover it back up with dirt. Rivener grit his teeth and tried to reach through again, unable to quite make it.
Beauregard's eyes were wide and watery, his singing degenerated to a pitiful muffled whimper as he was shoved into the hole, pushed in by little paws, and then showered with dirt and mud. This kind of treatment-... Not even people booed off a stage got this kind of treatment! This wasn't throwing of rotten tomatoes or a hook-shaped cane yanking you stage right, no! This was-... this was murder! This was like Beau's beloved Micheal Jackson, buried and gone! The whale's eyes rolled up into its head with the weight of that realization and with a perfectly pitched decrescendo, Beauregard passed out, flopping limply on the ground.
"BEAU!" Rivener screeched, wings snapping open. To hell with the damned bushes! With a snarl Rivener ripped branches and twigs out of the way, ignoring the sharp scratched from thorns and burrs, digging his way down much like Thorn himself had dug earlier. A desperate hand finally reached Beau and the Sigel grabbed his companion's tail, lifting him free while carefully pushing aside any branches on the way back up.
Riv hugged the passed-out whale to his chest and backed away rapidly, glaring at Vyn like this was somehow her fault. The Sigel knew it was stupid, and Vyn was not to blame, but he needed someone to blame for this! The red eyes flashed angrily, glassy with worry for the little floating crooner, and Riv pressed his lips into a line. "Teach your ******** dog some discipline!" He snapped, cuddling Beaubeau. "What the hell was that all about?!"

Vyn was unquestionably relieved when she saw the whale in his owner’s arms, bulbous chest heaving dramatically whilst it slept unconscious in its faint. Her own pet was scrambling out of the bushes as Riv retrieved Beau, his tail was wagging slightly and his flat face showed clearly his pride: he had vanished the nuisance and, even if his plan hadn’t succeeded and the whale wasn’t suck in a hole beneath the bush, atleast for now there was quiet. Vyn couldn’t stay angry at him when he gave her that look and as she ent she dished out only the mildest of punishments – tapping him on the nose before scooping him into a hold.
Suddenly the rose found herself under a barrage of words. Rivener was blasting off all sorts of obscenities at her and for a moment she blanched, mouth agape slightly whilst he hissed at her – holding his precious sea creature to his chest. Unfortunately for Rivener the shadow did not aintain her stunned silence for long and after his last demand for an explanation left his wiked mouth the rose’s thorns were well and truely prepared to defend her pet.
“You... You!” She couldn’t put her frustration into words. Her older brother, the raevan she perhaps held in highest regard, would snap at her like this over a petty misunderstanding. Yes! It was distressing, but neither Thorn nor Beau would ultimately be left with lasting effects. A deep sense of betrayal and hurt coursed through her and for that reason she could barely control herself as her free hand shot out and struck the sigel across the cheek.
Almost as soon as she had completed the action she felt a nauseating reaction to it. Rivener could so easily be set off. She had seen that several times... Those venomous stingers were constantly looking for an excuse to penetrate skin and leak toxins into the blood of a foe. Yet at the same time Vyn felt that she had every right to express her anger with her brother and her own wings, tipped with her own barbs, spread behind her in an imposing flare.
“You might claim to be a good older brother Rivener but when it comes down it sometimes you can just be a big bully.” Her words hissed out of her with venom more toxic than Rivener could ever hope to manage. Of course, she didn’t want to sever the bond she had with the scorpion raevan – she wasn’t that aggravated with him. But drawing an apology from his unnecessarily vicious lips would be required before she spoke with fondness to the black and red toned male.
“I’m sorry for not being able to control Thorn.” She exclaimed, taking her throbbing guilty hand and placing it protectively on the pup’s head... “But you made a drama out of something that needn’t have been so serious and as a result I think it’s safe to say that more than just Beau has been left with hurt feelings.”

Rivener hadn't expected that at all. The sudden sound of that hand across his cheek registered only a moment later, when he found himself looking to the side, his face turned from the strength of the slap. With parted lips and a pained frown, Rivener looked back to Vyn, raising one free hand to his now-burning cheek, the skin tingling where it had been struck.
She'd hit him? SHE had hit HIM, when it was HER damned dog that had dragged off Beauregard to do gods knew what-... And she was calling him a BULLY?!
His wings snapped open wide and quivered with the instinct to lash out, but Rivener would never hurt what he considered his sibling. Still, his teeth grit together and his frown darkened... But he was surprised to feel water gathering in his eyes. The fingers lowered from his cheek to grip Beau tightly and he backed away from Vyn, glowering. "Your dog could have hurt more than only feelings! It was biting and trying to bury Beau! I can't believe you're playing this off like it was no big deal, how do you know Beauregard wouldn't get hurt?! He's not a normal animal, a small scratch could be serious and no vet would be able to treat him! I-... You-...!"
Great. A tear was rolling down Rivener's face and he blushed from both the pent-up anger and the embarrassment. Seriously, what the hell?
Before he could make more of a fool of himself, and worried to death about the passed-out whale in his arms, Rivener turned and flapped his wings, hurrying away across the park. He was going to go home, and to hell with Vyn! She's the one who was being a damned bully!

Showing surprising strength of character Vyn took her brother’s verbal retort with her head held slightly higher than usual, her jaw levered upwards in a defiant position. To be quite honest Rivener was speaking valid points and a crimson stain of guilt touched her cheeks, but regardless of what he was saying he hadn’t apologised for the thing she had been specifically scolding him on - his rudeness. A simple apology for his rash words would’ve sufficed and her hackles would’ve dropped almost instantaneously... She had even led by example, apologizing for her lack of control over Thorn, but even then the night time sigel had managed to find a way of turning that round on her. Perhaps some of Ethan’s moral fibre had rubbed off on her... He was always commending Xiu on his chivalrous ways and now that Vyn thought of it she supposed the grey haired man was right. Xiu would never assault her with such foul language and curses!
Her grip tightened on Thorn as Rivener’s retort came to its frustrated stuttering conclusion. For a moment she thought the (physically) elder raevan’s failure of speech would be transformed into a physical strike, she had after all done exactly that minute earlier... But instead of raising a fist or lashing out with his venomous wings he clutched the unconscious whale to his chest, blinked back tears and swivelled on his axis – floating hastily away. The rose sunk... She hadn’t expected that. Rivener was crying? Had her sharp comments hurt him?
Loosening her hold on thorn she visibly wilted, questioning her moral rooting. Had she acted rashly when striking out at the scorpion? Perhaps calling hima bully was going a little bit too far, never in the past had she experienced this trouble... Well – there was Lucia’s party to consider. Was she still a little sore about his snappish response back then, perhaps? She shook her head glumly, trying to convince herself that she had acted responsibly; he had threatened to kill Thorn after all. Though wasn’t that the motivation behind his crude words? Scared for Beau’s safety... Oh it was all too difficult to unravel!
Looking after her brother’s retreating figure she decided not to follow. They both needed their space – she would consult Ethan and then sort it out... She couldn’t help but be terribly upset that what should’ve been a park playtime for Thorn had sparked a family argument and the remainder of her walk was soiled with a discontented frown..
