Foust started to remember what he had read about Taekwondo. He said to himself,"Taekwondo is known for its emphasis on kicking techniques, which distinguishes it from martial arts such as karate or southern styles of kung fu. The rationale is that the leg is the longest and strongest weapon a martial artist has, and kicks thus have the greatest potential to execute powerful strikes without successful retaliation. Historically, the Koreans thought that the hands were too valuable to be used in combat.

Taekwondo as a martial art is popular with people of both genders and of many ages. Physically, taekwondo develops strength, speed, balance, flexibility, and stamina. An example of the union of mental and physical discipline is the breaking of boards, which requires both physical mastery of the technique and the concentration to focus one's strength."

Now Foust wanted to get into his stance, and he surprisingly remembered the attention stance from the book he read. His chest facing forward, arms hanging straight down with open hands facing the body. With his feet together and toes pointed forward, back straight, shoulders back, head up, and eyes looking straight ahead, this was the attention stance.

Foust thought about the attention stance and said," This is good, but I want to adjust it a little." Foust started to change the stance, and now it was different. Now his chest facing forward tight fists at belt level, about two fist-widths away from your stomach, and one fist-width apart from each other. Foust's feet one shoulder width apart, lined up parallel to the target, toes on both feet pointed forward toward the target. The knees straight, but not locked, back straight, shoulders back, head up, and eyes looking straight ahead. Foust thought this was a better stance.

Foust looked over, and saw another soul reaper walking towards him. He said," You must be my training partner named Guy. Your a little late, but oh well." Even though Guy walked over to Foust, he did not get out of his stance, for he was focusing on remembering it. Foust looked over to Guy and said," Please, get in front of me. I will attempt some high kicks, so watch out." When Guy was in front of Foust, Foust brought up his right leg and launched a mighty kick at Guy's face. It worked perfectly, but Guy blocked with his arm. Foust was sure he could do some of Taekwondo moves, because he had already used his legs in literally every fight he has been in.

Foust looked over to Guy and said,"Do you know anything about Taekwondo?" Guy looked over, and with a little laugh he said,"Actually, I am here to help you learn it. hehe, I am a seventh degree black belt in Taekwondo." before Foust could comment on that Guy said,"Now that is enough chit chat. Let us get down to business." Foust nodded yes, and listened to the black belt.

Guy started to explain the use of Taekwondo, and Foust understood it. Guy then started to explain the kicks, starting with the fornt kick," First face your target. Now lift your knee towards the target, then let your foot go. Bam, you should hit that target, then bend your knee off, and that's it!You've done a front kick. Now I want you to try it.

Foust walked over to the training dummy, and got ready. He lifted his knee up, let his foot out, and he hit the dummy dead on. To Foust this was easy, from his past fights, and use of his feet. Guy looked at the boy and said," Good! Good, you did it. Now try a back kick. First stand in fighting stance in front of your target. Your back foot should be the one which kicks. Ok? Now keep you feet where they are, but pivit 180' on your toes. You should now have your back to the target. Now lift your kicking leg up by bending your knee in front of you. Then push your heel out to send your foot to the target. Now bring your leg back in by bending your knee before you put it the the ground. Your foot should move in backwards in a straight line. It shouldn't go round in an arc to the target, and there you go a back kick.

Foust looked to the training dummy, and got into his attention stance/fighting stance. He tried to do it the first time, but failed. Before Guy could say anything, Foust was already trying again. Back into his attention stance facing the dummy. He did it exactly how Guy said, and pulled it off. Foust was surprised, but before he could say anything, Guy said," Again." Foust sighed and tried again. He was facing the dummy, in his attention stance, piveted on his toes 180 degrees like he was supposed to, and lifted his kicking foot up. He pushed his heel out to send his foot into the training dummy's stomach. After connecting the attack, the dummy fell over a few feet away, and Foust bent the kicking foot back. After bending it back he then put it on the ground.

Guy said," That was just amazing for your first time. Seriously, amazing." He clapped and said,"We continue tomorrow, good day." Then he left, but Foust tried what he learned a few more times.

The next day Guy walked in to see Foust practicing his kicks. Foust was even trying to do a roundhouse kick, but could not pull it off. Guy waked up to him and said," You are doing it a little wrong, but I will help you. Today you learn the mighty and powerful roundhouse kick. This kick should help you out from time to time in battle. Ok. Your kicking foot comes round in a horizontal arc, so the impact on the target is sideways, not up or down. To let this arc happen your top hip has to rotate up and over your bottom hip. And then extend forwards towards the target. Your standing foot has to turn, and your toes should be pointing away from the target area. If you don't turn your standing foot your knee will rotate, and you don't want that."

Foust looked to the training dummy, and got ready. He turned back to his mentor, and asked," Can you repeat that again?" Guy walked over to him, smacked him in the head, and explained again. After the breif explanation, he went to the dummy. Just like he was told, he brought his kicking foot around, he rotated his hips, extended his leg to towards the dummy, his standing foot turned, and his toes were away from it. The impact was loud, as the ball of Fousts foot connected with the dummy's mid section. There was so much force that the dummy literally broke in half.

When he was done, he turned around to see Guy setting up more dummies. Guy said," I have to leave for a few days, but you can use these training dummies to practice, and I want you to learn another attack by the time I get back. Oh, and you are forbidden to leave this training facility." Foust reacted calmly when he said," Yes sir, I shall learn a new kick, and won't leave til you say so."

Now Foust had to learn another kick on his one, and he had absolutly no help. He thought about it for a bit, and came to the conclusion that he was going to teach himself the axe kick. He already knew about it. The objective of this kick was to get your foot above your target, then bring your foot down onto it with much force. To do this, Foust had to bend the knee of the kicking foot in towards his chest, then quickly lift up his foot from there. When above the target, he just has to slam his foot down onto the target.

To the training dummy he went. In front of the dummy he practiced it first, them he tried the kick on it. His target was the dummy's right shoulder. He got into his fighting stance, focused, and was ready. Foust's right knee went up to his chest, his foot then went straightr up over his target, and then he slammed it dow onto the dummieds right shoulder. The shoulder peice shattered on impact, and the rest of the arm flew to the ground.

Foust was impressed with the power of this kick, and that he was breaking his dummies. Although that kick would be dangerous if it connects with a harder surface like the ground. He would have to keep that in mind.

With a day left before Guy got back, Foust worked on making his moves faster. First, he practiced all of them on the training dummies, before he improved them. With a dummy in front of him, he practiced each one he learned in the order he learn it. He raised his right knee up, and stretched out his foot, hitting the dummy's head. A few more front kicks were being delivered to the dummy's face, and each one was getiing faster and faster.

Now he moved on to the back kick. From his fighting stance, he moved 180 degrees in a pivit, lifted his kicking foot up by bending it, pushed his heel out, and launched his foot to the dummy's chest. Foust retried the kick to hit the dummy's face, because he knew he could and had to try. The back kick to the face seemed faster than the one to it's chest. He continued with some more, and finally felt he had great speed with his kicks.

Foust got back into his fighting stance, and prepared his roundhouse kick. He shot his right foot around as he turned, rotated his hips, stretched out his leg, and his standing foot turned with his toes facing away from the target. Foust's foot hit the dummy's head, and kicked it clean off. Foust put his right foot, the foot he kicked with, back on the ground, and stood with amazement. The kick was already fast enugh, as if he was being controled. After that shocker he decided to take the time to rest, for he was tired.

Today was the day Guy was to be back, but Foust saw no sign of him. With that Foust walked over to the training dummy ready to make his new axe kick faster. From his perfected fighting stance, he lifted his right knee up to the height of his chest, then unfolded his leg so it would be just about straight up. At this moment, Foust did not realize Guy was back, and was watching him from across the room. As Foust brought his foot down onto the dummy's shoulder breaking it like the past dummy, Guy was impressed.

Guy walked over to Foust clapping. Foust quickly turned around, and was curious to know when Guy got there. Before Foust said anything, Guy said," That was really impressing. When I told you to take those few days to learn a move I figured you would make up some ridiculous move. Learning and perfecting, with great speed, the axe kick tells me you are going to get places. Let's continue though."

For the remainder of the day, Foust and Guy worked on his moves. They went over most of the punches, kicks, and situations. Guy was now teaching Foust a whole lot more about Taekwondo.

After a few weeks of hard training, Guy told Foust," Now you are fit to be a Taekwondo warrior. Also, it seems you are ready for some sparring, and what better person to spar with than me." Foust nodded to him as he said,"Sure, sounds fun."

For the rest of the day they sarred together. Foust was doing the attacking at first, with a series of front kicks. None of the got a hit on Guy, because he knew how to block them. Foust quickly went for a roundhouse kick. He spun around, brought his kicking leg horizantal, and stuck the ball of his foot out ready to connect. The roundhouse was going to hit, but Foust did not see Guy raise his leg straight up as he was spinning around. Foust was fast, but not as fast as Guy. Guy dropped his leg onto Foust, hitting his kicking leg down, thus leaving Foust open.

With Foust open at the time, Guy brought his knee up, was ready to use a front kick. Foust saw this coming, and got ready. As Guy's foot went up towards Foust's face, Foust stepped to the side. Now Guy was still open, and he pivited 180 degrees, lifted his right leg up even though it was throbbing, and extended it out to connect with Guy's chest. Guy felt the sweet pain of Foust's back kick when he said," Very good! Even under pressure you still know what you are doimg. That roundhouse kick actually would have hit me, if I was not as skilled as I am."

After a few hours of intense sparring, Foust was beaten and battered. Guy on the other hand, was just a little hurt and tired. Foust took the beating, for he was also paid close attention to how Guy blocked his kicks. Plus, he knew how to do the blocks, but did not know when. Now he was positive he could do better. He said while tired, but gaining adrenaline," Again!"

Guy was surprised to see the young fellow this dfetermined, but did as the boy said. Guy jumped at Foust with a front kick. Foust quickly connected his wrists to make a x, and put them in front of Guy's rising foot. This was a low x-block. He managed to block it, but Guy jumped with his standing foot/left foot, turned his body, and tried to kick Foust in the face before he fell to the ground. Seeing the foot coming close, he swiftly removed his left hand, brought it up to his right shoulder, and swung it to the left alighned with his shoulder. This blocked the on coming kick, thus making Guy fall to the ground.

Foust stretched out his right hand to give Guy some help up. When Guy got up, he said," I'm getting too old for this, but once again you surprised me. I did not teach you to block at all, and that was my mistake, but you learned the blocks through the beating I gave you. Didn't you?" Foust nodded his head yes, and they both went sat down for rest.

A few days later,Guy taught Foust not to fear attacks. Guy did this by beating him to death. This went on for a while, and each kick brought more pain. Foust couldn't fight back. Every attempt to block just got him hurt. After a few hours, his body was broken. He could hardly stand after the series of painful kicks. As Foust started to fall unconciece,Guy said," Now you won't fear attacks like you used to." Foust was passed out on the ground when Guy got a squad 4 member to heal him.

When Foust awoke,Guy was standing beside him. He asked," How you feeling kid?" Foust being overconfedentin anything, replied back,"Yeah I'm ok.." Before Foust could finish his sentence, Guy attacked him with a vicious kick. Foust went flying back a few feet, and now understood that this wasn't over. His master was still continueing his training even though Foust was actually hurt. Guy started to explain that it was training for Foust to understand the ways of battle, but Foust interrupted him in the middle of his lecture.

Foust was done taking hits. He now decided to fight back, even if his master told him not to. Guy attacked first with a front kick, while saying not to interupt him. Foust dashed forward, with his left arm downward in the way of Guy's leg. Now his attack couldn't be fullfilled. Foust quickly brought up his right leg, leaned back a little, and swung his foot to Guy's head. At this moment Foust was only focusing on hitting Guy nothing else. Guy was not expecting the kid to confront him like this. Guy was not prepared, and was so amazed in his pupils actions that he didn't block or move. Foust's kick hit perfectly, and Guy fell to the ground. By the time Guy got back up, Foust was kneeling down panting with exhaustion. Guy knew his pupil needed rest, so he let the kid have a day to himself.

With a whole day to himself, Foust slept through half of it to get his strength back. As for the other half he trained more by himself. He worked on making his kicks faster by hit all of the training dummies, and while doing so was making his legs stronger. If you compared his strength from before he entered his training, you could see the difference easily. As Foust continued to train, he had no idea his master,Guy, was watching him. Guy was unsure why Foust was so determined. Could it be he just wants to, or was it a specific reason.

Guy walked over to Foust, with his final task ready. Guy said with a stern voice," Foust my boy, you have one more objective to complete your training. Just like most great martial arts teachers, I will make you fight me to see who's better. Now show me your determination with your feet. Let's see those kicks that have amazed me. Now!"

They both got into their fighting stance, which was surprising the same. Guy started things off by getiing on Foust's left side, with his foot high in the air ready for a axe kick. Foust saw the foot rise, so he moved out the way just barley, and jumped up. In the air he turned his bodyto the right, while bring his right foot up to make his heel meet with Guy's gut. Guy bent his body backwards in a matrix like way get out of the way of the kick. Foust got his right foot on the ground quickly, and stood on it as he turned and lifted his left foot. He pushed it out striaght and strong. Guy had just got back up when a foot connected with his gut. He was pushed back a little, but was ok.Foust noticed that it hardly hurt him so he figurd this would be hard. Foust got int his fighting stance, and prepared himself for a long fight.

The fight waged on for a while, and both master and grasshoper were in pain, but were both enjoying themselves. This was a battle of kicks only, and both of them were doing some amazing attack. Foust was starting to get weirry, and Guy wasn't any better either. this fight wasn't going to last much longer. Foust and guy both darted at eachother, Guy attempted a front kick with all his strength, but foust had moved to his sid too fast. Now Foust had a chance to win, he spun around and threw his right foot up. This was the last kick of the fight, and Guy was too exhausted to move. Foust's heel got right up toGuy's face, but didn't connect. Foust had stopped right before the impact, and said," There i think we are both too exhausted let's continue later."He brought his foot to the ground and smiled. Guy tirned to Foust and shook his head no," You could have beaten me right there, and i know it. You are better than I am. The grasshoper truly has grown up and beat the master. Now this is the end of your training my young pupil. Now go on and show the world your strength and determination. Whatever it is that makes you so determined must be of great deal, but i must ask what is it?" Foust looked at the ground then back at Guy,"I just want to show others that i'm not weak." Guy replied with a smile," Well youu certainly are not weak. Well I guess this is good-bye my pupil."
