The morning sun peeked over the horizon, warm and bright as it shimmered in the small stream and painted the clouds in soft pinks and golds. Last night’s faint rain left the ground feeling cool and soft underpaw, but it hadn’t been enough to much disturb the lioness. Keena yawned, her forepaws kneading the moist earth as she stretched, then shook herself briskly, scattering any water that remained from her light fur. The chill of the night still lingered, not yet burned away by the warmth of the sun, but not so cold as to be uncomfortable for someone with a good insulation of fur.

Stretching back the other way until her tail curled, the lioness padded over to the river to lap up a quick drink, ridding her tongue of that early-morning taste, before settling down to groom her fur into order. Only for a few minutes though, it wasn’t as if she wanted it perfect, just not messy and dirty. Her ears perked at the faint traces of birdsong lingering in the trees, and a small smile spread across her features. Each day was a lovely thing, wasn’t it? So much promise. Places to see, people to meet, things to do and learn…

Satisfied that she didn’t look as though she’d been rolling in mud, which was fortunate because she didn’t recall doing such a thing anyway, Keena rose to her feet and began to make her way off, following her paws wherever they might decide to lead her. New dirt or old beneath her paws, warm and dry or soft and damp with the night’s rain, the people who walked upon it with her could be anyone at all. True, she’d met a few prides that stayed in one place. Some were welcoming of strangers, while others were less so. But she bore them no ill will for chasing her out, those that had, for surely they were only worried about protecting their families and making sure their little ones would have enough food. How could anyone fault them for that, no matter how poorly their fear for family made them phrase their desires? No one, that was who. Especially not Keena.

Everything seemed so silent, so still and at peace that one could say it could come out of a painting or story. The goldenrod grass danced lighting with a mother's touch of a morning breeze as the creatures of the morning land slowly started to wake from their slumber to start a new day, while those of the night started to sleep until another. It was hard to think that such peace would soon be disturbed by the natural balance of predator and prey in mere seconds to hours.

However, a certain figure paid no mind to the beauty of the African sunrise. His mind told him to travel yet another day, which commanded his feet to move. Where to? Mohlako did not know, nor did he care. To move meant to survive, and the rogue lion wanted to see the next sunset and sunrise, so he moved, just as he has been doing for most of his life. Unlike some others, he had no friend or support to help him meet another day. He had no protection or warmth of a companion or a pride. He was alone, and yet, even if he envied those with such things in their life, he himself made no effort to create or find such a bond.

The sun slowly rose higher, and Mohlako paid no mind to the leftover droplets of rain caressing his fur as he moved through the grass, nor the cushion the rain softened earth gave his feet. He had no second thoughts to the movement of the newly awaked zebra and gazelle, or the fact that a couple of birds watched him closely as he made his way towards the old dirt paths of the Roguelands. Yet, he did notice one thing in this move picture; a figure making its way to who knew where.

It was a beautiful world she walked through. A world of sunkissed color and rain soft earth. So fresh it smelled, after a rain. The grass more green, the earth loamy and mutedly crisp. Like springtime or something. All washed new. A good day for something to begin, Keena thought to herself as she padded along one of the many paths through the lands she'd traveled most of her life. So many journeys, and she'd still not seen them all. Perhaps she never would, but even so there was something to be said for the travels. It wasn't where she was going that counted after all, it was how she was going.

Something moved through the grasses, independent of the gentle breeze that stirred the world. The lioness slowed slightly, head tipped curiously and ears perked as she looked for the motion that had flickered in the corner of her vision. A lion. One she didn't recognize, though that was little surprise as there were oh so many people in this wide wide world. He seemed to be traveling alone, as she was, and he wasn't too far off either, their paths might almost cross.

Actually, they were going to cross now. Keena wasn't going anywhere in particular, and a little company was always a nice thing. While there was something to be said for peace and quiet, nothing ever could compare to the warm life of another traveling alongside, however briefly they might walk together. Smiling now, more of a gently happy expression than a friendly outgoing grin, she picked up her pace with a touch of eagerness, it had been a while since she'd met a new friend after all.

"Good morning," she called cheerfully, once they weren't too far off from one another, though she did not actively close the decently sized gap. Not just yet, she knew how some valued their space and didn't wish to be chased off over some small misunderstanding so very quickly. Instead, she let herself fall into step with him, maybe eight or nine long strides away from walking beside him.

The morning breeze picked up once more and tickled the rogue lion's black mane. Dark gray, almost black, eyes kept one gaze on the approaching figure, another on the path before him as he continue on with no intention of stopping unless he had to. However, it seemed the day had other plans for him since it seemed the figure, a female lion, was following after him.

Mohlako's ears flicked at her soft open voice, a greeting towards him escaping her mouth. Some relief came to him from that one simple fact. At least now he could walk on with no worry that a threat or annoyace would be following after him for miles on end. Though he was in the rogue lands the threat of territorial beast did not stop. Territory meant home no matter where one traveled, and if someone entered anothers' home then they would surely have a fight on their hands.

To ease some curiosity he looked back and stared at her for a moment. His gaze filled with her soft sand colored fur that where speckled with brown, white and orange design. Surely it had use when it came to camouflage unlike those who had such unnatural coloring, but like anything in like, their fur must have had some use towards them.

Letting out no returned greeting, or even a sigh, the lion turned his stare back to the path in front of him, his sight catching the gaze of a couple of zebra and gazelle who had their sight on the pair out of fear of being a meal. No one could blame them since it was a natural response for prey whenever predators were around.

His pace neither picked up, nor slowed down with the presence of the female. He guessed that the female would soon get tired of his silent nature and lack of attention for her, and with that she would leave like any normal creature would, for those who want attention and do not get it usually tantrum and stomp off.

As he studied her, she returned his curious look with one of her own. His fur was such a soft warm color, but it was accented with black in a few curling marks on his legs and tail. The fine wispy design was certainly not the strangest of the markings and patterns she’d seen, though they were unusual in a lovely sort of way. The darkness of his mane and markings against the lightness of the rest of his fur made for a rather nice contrast... Her tail flicked briefly as he simply looked away and continued walking without any further acknowledgment of her presence. It didn’t seem she was unwelcome though, just… ungreeted. He’d not asked her to leave, or growled at her or any such thing.

Perhaps he was still drowsy, it was fairly early after all. Some didn’t like mornings much, didn’t like their sleep to be disturbed by sunrise. And so Keena was completely unoffended that he took very little notice of her. It wasn’t precisely an invitation, but as he didn’t seem to loathe her presence she took it as a kind of go ahead to close some of the gap. Her eyes followed his gaze to the preybeasts as she came closer, and she glanced back at him again.

“Hungry?” It was more of an offer than a question really. She’d not eaten today, though the day had barely begun. She wasn’t hungry exactly, but she wouldn’t mind a bit of hunting if her fellow traveler was. It wasn’t as though she couldn’t eat a bit of breakfast… she just wasn’t hungry enough to go for her sake alone. It wasn’t worth it to her just yet. Her ears were perked in hope of a response, but her eyes were on him as well, on the chance that he still would not speak to her. Perhaps he might be mute? It was possible after all. Smoothly, as if it were only natural, she let the rhythm of her steps fall into sync with his, nearby rather than beside, but a bit closer than she’d been before. He didn’t strike her as unfriendly at all, maybe just a bit quiet.

Though to be fair, poor Keena really did err on her judgment of ‘friendly’ with rather alarming frequency. She simply…didn’t notice the subtle hints was all.
