It seemed years since she'd tread the ground of her pride. The soft soil under her paws, making her footfalls completely silent. It was if the ground its self sucked up the sound. She'd played her so long ago when she was nothing but a foolish child who didn't know the evil's of the world.
Now she was older and knew that it wasn't glory at all that laid beyond the boarders. Just pain and intolerance. Her hide bore the scars of a 'playful' lion's attempt to steal her dinner. She was hardened. One could see that her childish youth had abandoned her long ago and left her with one lip curled and baring a fang in warning almost constantly.
Her tail flipped back and forth, agitated. A warning to not be bothered.
But she was on a mission. She wanted to know how many of her siblings had made it back and what names they had chosen. Little bird, cloud paws... such trivial names.
They'd played here once as cubs. She noted sniffing at a tree. Now where was he. She let out a roar, loud and demanding of her brother's presence.

Abu'kule had found the world differently - sure, it was harsh and cold at points, but the wonderment of cubs, the young, had let his heart stay soft - the simply innocence of the youth, and he sought to preotect that.
Unlike his sister, he had become calm like that of a soft breeze, but able to spin a fury like the worst wind storm imaginable for the sake of his beliefs.
And suddenly, in the midst of though, he heard a roar. Ears perked up, and pink eyes came to focus. "Kanoni...?" he whispered under his breath - no, not Kanoni any longer. The white-pawed lion pulled himself up, he made his way towards his sister.
"Sister...?" He question upon seeing he grow form, slightly scarred - he winced and the sight, but continued to look her over.

The lioness almost didn't recognize her brother when he came up to her. He was larger and the ball of fluff was now huge, certainly larger then her with a full mane and gentle eyes.
Foolish gentle eyes. "Brother." She greeted standing as stock still as a solider. "It has been a long time." She offered and stiffly came to sniff at him. "I am Barak." She said as though introducing herself for the first time. "You?"

"It has been," he replied. His lovely sister who had grown so, though was smaller than him - he frowned a little, worry slightly in his eyes. "Barak," he repeated, saddened by her harsh demeanor. "I am Abu'kule-Biti," he told his sister, his sister Barak.
He didn't like this side of her, but he smiled anyhow. "You've grown beautifully," he told her.

She snorted slightly at his name. At least her's sounded fierce on the tongue. His might have well been a lullaby. She didn't bother to repeat it and started back toward the main area of the pride.
"More dangerous. I've learned my lessons of the outside world. How long ago did you return?"

"I don't remember, really. A while ago, I guess, but my mane wasn't fully in when I had return. The pride was in mourning when I got back." He paused in his speech and walking with his sister.
A small frown, his siblings had taken a long time to return to the pride after him - he had wondered if maybe he should have stayed longer, gotten a different name, but his sould had told him to return, and he had followed it.

He looked him over, judging how long ago that must have been. Not too very long but she paused for a moment. "Mourning? What were they mourning?" Her voice was midly curious as she glanced back at her brother.

Kule's heart caught in his throat for a moment, and his tongue seemed to stick to the roof of his mouth. He couldn't speak for a moment, and let himself be gathered, forcing away many of the emotions that threatened to take over his being.
"The Queen has been killed. Narindima'moyo is the new King," he informed her with a steeled voice - celebrating internally for his voice not cracking before his sister. He wouldn't be able to take that at this point.
That didn't change the fact of his internal mourning. He never expected the queen to die - so suddenly. He wasn't even there! But it effected him greatly.
He gave a small sigh. "Jaha-mnamo-Ukosa was killed as well. Throat slit and cubs hours out of her belly," He shifted lightly. "Death has invaded the pride with your absence, sister," his eyes showed nothing but sorrow and mourning.

Hardened eyes met his saddened ones. So the queen was killed? She snorted and rubbed against a tree as if nothing as the sort bothered her. It didn't.
"If the Queen was weak enough to let herself die then she deserved it." Came her harsh answer. To the cubs she merely stared at him. "I see. She should have been more able to protect herself and her cubs. I'm sure it is a loss."

The male's eyes widened in horror. What had happened to his sister to make her this way? His heart ached even more, and he knew he would mourn his sister in silence as well.
"That's not fair, Barak! The queen wouldn't have been Queen if she was weak. The spirits wouldn't allow us to fall under a weak ruler," Kule said desperately.
He shook his head. "She was in her time of weakness, sister. She was able to protect her cubs, but not herself..." He sighed. "What happened to you, sister," He wanted to touch her, to reassure that this was the same girl he grew up with.
His heart ached painfully.
