Motto: "A motto is quite an odd thing, as your motto can be very unnaffective at the time.
For example, your motto may be "Never look back", which is a nice way of moving on with your life. However, if you are being chased by a fit of ballerinas with chainsaws, you may want to look back to see if the caterer of your uncle's funeral has shot the poison darts into their necks as he planned to.
Simply meaning a personal motto can only be of use in certain times, and not of use in other times. And as it is lead to believe that it should serve all-purpose, a personal motto has no purpose at all.
