But I want the French horn sound more than the trumpet sound... I own a trumpet for the trumpet sound. Would a shallow trumpet mouthpiece give me a French horn sound?
It's by preference really. I like resistance and the shallow mouthpieces gave me more, and more of a "mellow" but clear sound, no pun intended. But you're not going to get a REAL horn sound out of any mellophone, it's not designed totally for it. It's too direct. But even with a trumpet mouthpiece the sound still wont be as edgy as trumpet, and that's how it's suppose to be.
Honestly all I can tell you is experiment a little. But you could probably use both. Sorry I'm not much of a help D:
