With a quiet sense of excitement, Gate rose from his silken bed and began his daily grooming, his rituals for the breaking of the day. Today he was up even earlier than usual for today he was going to do something - being without purpose on Gaia had begun to wear upon the Ki'Lin and so that he had gone out of his way to find a worthwhile sort of activity to help fill his days. His small home and tiny garden, Rodney and the little star he'd found in the garden could only take up so much of his time after all.
Though Barton Town with all it's diversity offered much, it was in Durem that Gate found something to pique his interest. The Durem Children's Hospital had a posting in the paper and also on the campus - volunteers were always needed and wanted for various reasons. The blond found that the very idea of going there to help pleased him and brought a warmth to his heart that he'd been missing - it was such his nature to give and to care for others.
Dressed neatly but in clothing that would be quite servicable for anything that was required of him, Gate made his way to the main reception desk to inquire as to where he might be of the most use. He was directed to the Children's Wing, where he began - slowly and hesitantly at first - to do his best at the nurses directions.

Angela tucked the faint wisps remaining of her hair under a kerchief, then padded out of the room. She ignored the way Seiyo watched her go through narrowed eyes. Both of them knew all too well that there weren't many places for her to go on this wing - just other children's rooms, or the rooms at each end of the hall. As she passed the nurse's station, however, she heard a voice call out to her.
"Oh Angela," one of the nurses said, waving Angela over to her side even as she looked at Gate. She was a solid woman, a bit on the heavy side, with a twinkle in her eye and a good-natured smile on her lips. Angela had never been able to quite figure out how a woman working here could continue to smile like that, but it usually drew a smile back from the girl, just as it did today. "Angela, I'd like you to meet Gate. He's one of our current volunteers."
She turned, looking at Gate again as she added, "Angela's only been with us for a little over a month now. Maybe you and she could put a puzzle together or something." And with that said, she bustled back off, reaching for a tray filled with packets of alcohol wipes and well-wrapped needles and things.
Angela quirked a smile. "Subtle, isn't she?" she asked, as the nurse stepped out of immediate hearing range.

Having been tucked 'under' a rather matronly woman's 'wing', Gate soon found himself meeting a young girl with a lovely smile (and quite a saucy-but-sweet attitude to boot!).
"Thank you, Ma'am." But the nurse was out of earshot before half the first word left his pale lips. It was just Angela and the Ki'Lin; standing quietly together...amused by the departure of the floor nurse.
"So, Angela...I am very pleased to meet you. Is there something you'd like to together? A puzzle or perhaps some painting?" He was nervous about being there and also about how everyone would be receiving him...after all, it had pretty much taken a fondle to convince the nurses that he were in fact...a he.

"I was going to look at the garden," Angela said, glancing back toward her room. Seiyo stood in the doorway, and for a long moment, the two simply looked at each other before Seiyo turned away - tacit permission for her to do whatever she wished. "The windows from that room over there," she added, turning the opposite direction to point down the hall. Her outstretched arm showed bruising around the crook, where needles had been periodically placed for various intravenous drips, like the one she currently sported. "They're a perfect place to watch the garden without having to get an escort to take you through... or to put your shoes on," she added, wiggling her bare toes at him with an impish grin.

Gate smiled gently down at Angela and watched the silent interaction between the tall, sullen-looking man and the girl at his side. "That sounds wonderful." He meant it too - he had his own garden and was quite pleased to view another's work...it would serve nicely to take some of the ache in his heart at someone so young being in such a state.
"You like gardens then, Angela?" Gate offered her his arm as any gentleman should; they would make their way to the window together with his steps measured to match hers, tail swishing in a restrained matter.
