The nurse smiled and held up a newly born baby. She wrapped it in a soft white towel and rested the baby on Tracy's breast. "It's a girl." she smiled as she softly stroked the womans arm. "what will you call her?" "Rai." Tracy smiled. "I'll call her Rai." With that the woman took a shuddering breath and turned her head to face her son and husband. Tear's streamed down Conner's face as he hugged his dieing mother. "don't die mummy, I love you" he sobbed. Raymond stroked his sons head. "do you know what's wrong with her?" he asked the nurse. The nurse shook her head. "She is not bleeding, she is just dieing." she said as she relieved the dieing woman of the newborn child. Rai's small fingers stretched and unstreached as she lie awake in the nurses arms. Tracy took another shuddering breath and hugged her son. "do not cry child, you need to look after your sister. She is special, and she will love you." she smiled and took one last breath before eternal peace swept over her face. Conner let out a scream of sorrow as he gripped to his mother. "mummy. MUMMY!" he screamed, tears rolled freely down his face. Raymond took his son into his arms and held him tight. "It's alright son. your mother will never truely leave us. She will always be in our hearts." He said as he looked up at the child in the nurses hands, a tear found it's way down his cheek.

In the next room over, Sarra Bey, Tracy's childhood, and still best friend. Had had her own daughter. "Tanija" she smiled as the baby girl was placed in her hands. But when she heard Conner screaming the smile faded and Sarra's tears of happyness were replaced by tears of sorrow. Tracy had known she wouldn't survive the birth of her second child, and had told Sarra this. She'd asked Sarra to look after the baby as she grew up, and to treat her as her own. Sarra had laughed it away though, but she'd agreed any way. Now that the time had come to fulfill her promise, there would be nothing that would stop her helping her old friends family. "take me to the next room." she said to the nurses. they nodded and took her and her baby to Tracy's room.

(8 years later. Rai and Tanija have grown up to be best friends, almost like sisters to each other, and Conner has grown to be a loving brother for both of them.)
Rai and Tanija were chasing each other around the backyard of Rai's house. "come on Tani! you can catch me!" Rai called over her shoulder. Tanija smiled and flew into the air, her small wings didn't carry her very fast, but she found it faster than running. In a matter of seconds Tanija had caught up to Rai. "ha! got ya!" she smiled as she tackled Rai to the ground. "that's cheating!" Rai laughed as she wrestled Tanija for a while. When they stopped they stood up laughing and shook the dirt off of them selves. A scream rang through the town and Sarra, Raymond and Conner came running out of the house. "come on Rai, Tani, we have to get out of here. It's not safe at the moment." said her father as he looked nervously around. Rai's eyes opened wide in fear. "Why? I don't want to leave!" she half screamed at her father. Another scream rang through out the village and Sarra and Raymond picked up their small children. "come on Conner." Raymond said as they ran out of the yard and to one of the village exits. Conner ran after them and looked around at the havoc that had sprung up in the village, children ran around looking for their parents, and parents ran looking for their children, as masked, caped men cut down everyone in sight, and torched all the buildings that got in their way. Rai screamed as one of the men saw them and ran at them with his sword held high above his head. But moments before the man reached them, water folded around Conner, Raymond, Sarra and Tanija. Rai was floating in the center of the sphere, in a semi-asleep state. Nothing could penetrate the sphere, no one could wake her up, and it stayed there until the men had left, dragging people they'd caught behind them. Leaving buildings burning.

(a week after the masked men had attacked the village.)
Rai woke up and sat up suddenly. Conner rose his head when he felt movement on the bed. "Rai?" he asked her. A smile made it's way onto his face "Rai you're awake! Dad, Sarra, Tani! wake up!" he said shaking Tanija to wake her up. Rai looked at the excited face of her brother, then around the bed to see three others sitting around it. "where am I? what happened?" she asked looking back at her brother. A scared look on her face. "Don't you remember? our village was attacked... you saved us." he smiled and reached out to grab her hand. Rai held tightly to him and looked at the others again. She didn't remember them, they looked... like strangers... "Who are they?" she asked her brother quietly. But her lips didn't move. Conner stared at his sister with wide eyes. This scared Rai and she let go of him. "what? what is it?" she asked, her mouth didn't move again, but some how Conner heard it. "you're... you're not talking aloud... but I can hear you..." he looked at his father. "I can hear her, but she isn't speaking..." fear washed over his face Rai looked at him and realised she could feel his fear and confusion. Can... can you hear me? she thought to him Conner nodded think back... think back... she said, excitement in her minds voice. Conner looked at her. that's father, and Sarra, and Tanija... your best friend Tanija... don't you remember them? He thought back, not sure if she could hear him. Rai looked at them again, and images of Tanija and her playing came to her. Of Sarra hugging her when she was sad, and of her father, Raymond, rocking her back and forwards, laughing as they played. "I remember." she said out loud, then smiled as the sound came out for all to hear.

(two years later. Rai is being kicked out of the town they moved to because of her powers of controlling water and her perfected ability of reading minds.)
"We'll miss you child." said Raymond as he pulled his daughter into a hug. "Take care, we will always love you." The ageing man let go of his daughter and handed her two daggers. A tear rolled down his cheek as he looked at his only daughter. Conner smiled sadly. "I'll walk with you to the outskirts of the town, but I can go no further. I need to help father and Sarra." He hugged his younger sister and handed her a pouch of money. "This is from all of us." he said as he stepped backwards. He wouldn't let a single tear touch his cheek, he had to be strong for Rai. Tani hugged her friend and pushed a medalion into her hand. "don't loose it sister, it will keep us together, with it we will never be alone." she said revealing an identical medalion hanging around her neck. Sarra hugged the girl she'd come to think of as her daughter. "we will keep you in our hearts, and pray for your safe passage to your destination. We love you." She pushed a bag of food into Rai's hands. Rai smiled and looked at them all. "I'll never forget any of you." she said to them. stay safe, stay pure. She said as she turned and began walking away from her home. Conner walked along side her, and held her tight in his arms. They walked like that until they got to the very edge of the town. Where they parted ways. Tears streaming down her face, Rai rose into the air and flew away from the town, her large wings carrying her quickly away from the staring untrusting eyes of the towns people.

(three weeks into her journey, Rai was accepted into an old mans house. The man helps her perfect her ability of controling water, as well as another ability she discovered with his help.)
Rai smiled and looked up at the man through wet hair. Her wings fell behind her, soggy and to wet to fly with. "That was better!" smiled the man "your on your way now." he said. Laughing he gave the soaking wet Rai a towel to dry off with. "uncle..." she said as she rubbed the towel through her hair. "last night... when I was upset... my eye colour changed... it got darker... why did it change uncle?" she asked Kray. Kray looked at her, a faint smile on his face. "you are discovering the last of your powers." "The last of it? I thought I could only control water and read minds." she said a line of confusion on her face. "you were born with a gift, and that gift came in a package of three things. Just like me child. I can control three elements, you can control one, read minds, and change your appearance." he smiled at the girl. Rai smiled. "does that mean I can change any thing?" she asked him. Kray nodded. Rai smiled and concentrated on her hair. She'd never liked the dark brown hair she had. Rai's face screwed up in concentration as she thought of the colour she wanted her hair to be. Suddenly Kray laughed. "well that's a start." he smiled and made a pane of water to form, making a mirror for her. Rai looked at her reflection and smiled at the pale white streaks that now lined her hair. "I did it!" she smiled as she pulled at her hair to find more white. "I really did it!" "It will take practice to perfect it... you will need to train hard. each day I want your hair to be a different colour. that is how I will know you're getting better."
(and so Rai every day for a year had a different hair colour, from brightest white, to the darkest black, and then back again.)
"I think it is time you continue on your journey child." Kray said on Rai's eleventh birthday. "There is nothing more I can teach you. your life is your own from now on." Seeing tears running down the girls face, Kray pulled her into a hug. "do not cry shild. Our hearts are one. they always will be." he said letting go of her and holding her at arms length. Rai's now green eyes, were brimed with tears. "thank you uncle." she whispered. Kray smiled and pushed a small silver chain into her hand. on it sat the symbol of water. "Keep it well child." he said as he helped her wrap it around her ankle. Rai smiled and hugged Kray. The next thing she knew, she was off again, her adventure was to continue. Rai didn't know where she was going, or what to expect when her journey ended. but her brother had told her before they parted, that she would know when she got to her new home, because she would feel at peace once more. On her journey, Rai continued her training, she would venture into the minds of animals, and learn the ways they think. She would form water into weapons, animals, sheilds. And she would work on her newest skill, changing her appearance. She did it so many times, that she forgot what she used to look like, her hair was long, silver and always shiny, her eyes were a deep blue colour, and her skin would go from shining white, to dull black each day.

Rai only stopped in villages and towns to eat and sleep, and even then it was only for a day or two. Her progress was fast, but she still didn't know where she was going. That was until she saw the tall castle of Heaven. She smiled, she knew this was where she would be for years to come, living in the main town of Heaven, working in the castle assisting the royal family and living a life where no one but her closest friends knew of her powers.
