Christmas was coming, and with it there were christmas Spirits, dreams of sugar plums, frost on window sills, holly and ivy and all the rest. And for a few, there would be caroling.
Ume Took careful steps out onto the green, the trees were strung with the fat christmas lights, the gazebo too, and donned with missile toe and pine garlands.
She glanced over her shoulder to see whom else followed, but took the first few cautious notes into the the first song...
"City Sidewalks, busy side walks, dressed in holiday style..."

Yuletide seemed to be a very joyous time of the year for all who celebrated its festivities. Even Elegancia and her pompous attitude could not help but smile when people sang songs of snow, presents, and Santa Claus. (Not that she believed in such fantastical things, but it was a nice thought, after all.)
A girl, who just might have been as pretty as Elegancia (but most definitely not more pretty, that would be impossible), began to sing a well-known Christmas tune. It was most unfortunate, however, that Elegancia did not know the words- she was horrible with memorization of lyrics.
Elegancia was not going to be outdone! She continued with the lyrics she thought appropriate:
"... What a bright time, it's the right time...?"
Those were most definitely the correct lyrics. Most definitely.

Alba had a list of the top 5 things about Christmas, and it went something like this:
1. Making things for people! 2. Decorating a christmas tree! 3. CAROLING! 4. Making MORE things for people! 5. SNOW THERE IS SNOW IT IS SNOWING OUTSIDE.
The fifth item on the list was somewhat of a luxury for the girl, considering that she had spent most of her life traveling with her parents or staying put in her birth country of Costa Rica for the holidays. Warm temperatures and having bonfires on the beach was a normal Christmas Eve tradition, so for her to be experiencing this new, white, Destiny City holiday, well.
It was short of amazing.
She had enjoyed spending some of her savings for new winter clothes and was happily wearing her new outer gear (why yes, thank you peacoat, knitted hat, gloves and boots for warmth) while on a pleasure walk. She marveled at the houses decorated in ornate roof-top lighting and front-yard inflatable character extravaganzas.
And suddenly, the voice hit her: a beautiful Christmas classic all on its own. She quickly scurried on over to the lone girl to sing along. "In the air there's a feeeeelliiiiinggg of Christmaaas!"

Having been granted permission to stay out past her curfew for once, Ari stepped out after Ume. She was dressed like a ski-bunny from a magazine, tight jeans tucked into high fur-tipped boots, and a tight power-blue jacket (also fur-trimmed). The only thing wrong with the image was the beanie on her head that sported cat ears - Ari's only addition to an outfit otherwise chosen by her mother.
She joined Ume, and the girl who'd just run over, in song. "Children laughing, people passing, meeting smile after smile..."
Ari's voice was only average, but at least she was in tune, and she had the confidence to sing loudly and brightly. That was all a carol really needed, right?

It was such a quiet night and for once she was glad that it was the holiday season; glad that despite going to a boarding school with dozens of other girls she was given the chance to go home for the holidays. Her mother and father still loved her dearly and her grandmother... Well, her grandmother would've approved of something like this.
For once she'd put aside all worries of who might see her, completely casting aside the fears that something like this wasn't cool. It was Christmas and she was doing this for her grandmother, just like she'd made cookies the day before. She was going to go out and sing with the rest of the carolers... So what if her voice wasn't always the prettiest?
She grabbed her coat and her mittens and her earmuffs, fluffing her hair before dashing out the door just in time to hear the singing start. It was cold, yes, but the night seemed to go on forever above them. So beautiful...
"... Children laughing, people passing, meeting smile after smile." The voices continued on and soon her own joined them as she caught up, smiling brightly with a flushed face. "And on every street corner you'll heeaaar..."

Ume beamed and fished in the wicker basket she carried, of course, dressed in almost traditional victorian style and offered a few cheaply printed caroling books out to those who might want them, continuing to sing and tapping her booted foot to help keep time. She even offered a hand to the nearest person so they could chain. <3
"Silver bellllsss, silver bellllsss" She drew out the word swaying slightly in memory of how the classic tune made her feel.

Ari gratefully accepted a caroling book. Ume had started with a song Ari knew, but soon enough things would surely get mixed up and the wrong words would come out. A bit like the pretty girl who'd joined in with 'Jingle Bell Rock'.
"It's Christmas time in the city!" Ari joyfully sang, accepting Ume's hand with the one not currently keeping the booklet open to the right page. She offered her elbow out, so the chain could continue if someone linked arms with her (and Ari would still have that hand free for the booklet).

"Ring a ling... hear them sing...." Came a nervous voice from a girl wearing a heavy leather coat with a fluff lined hood that made her look like an eskimo. Pandora's voice was on the husky side but she wasn't awful either, she nervously took the next arm.

Her nerves kicked in slightly as she eyed the other girls linking arms. She didn't know any of them. She didn't really even know what she was doing here. What if they didn't like her? What if...
She clenched her hands into mittened fists for a moment, steeling her resolve as her voice crackled. She didn't care if they didn't like her. There was no guaranteeing that she'd even see any of these other girls again after today, and if she did? So what. It was Christmas. To hell with everything else.
Slowly stepping up to join the small group she neither took arms nor offered her own, but at least she was there and she didn't seem like she was going to take off either. "Soon it will be Christmas Day..."

Ume flashed her a bright smile amid all the strange faces, as though to say thanks for participating, from her own jacket she pulled a corsage of holly and offered it to her, the basket swinging over her arm.

She didn't recognize a single face in the growing group of carolers, but that didn't seem to bother the crystal academy senior. She was happy to be surrounded by people who looked to be her age who also enjoyed singing for the fun of it, and when arms began to link she didn't hesitate to join the chain, her voice unfaltering. Alba could also be considered an average singer, and her own vocal addition gave the chorus a certain amount of brightness and clarity in the way the vowels were pronounced and the "r's" were rolled.
A gloved hand reached out for the eskimo-ed girl, encouraging her to join. "Strings of street lights, even stop lights, blink a bright red and greeeen!"

Khalla had actually been out shopping, of all things. It had been a bad idea to wait until so close to Christmas but her mind just seemed to be all over the place these days. It was with a mild irritation at Christmas shoppers and a shiver from the cold that she was walking home, burrowing into a giant fluffy cream coat as she hurried along.
The closer she got to the school, however, the more something began to grab her attention. Being ever curious, especially these days, she took a small detour down the street she thought it was coming from and was presented with one of the most beautiful sights she'd seen in weeks - carolers!
Her smile immediately split into a wide grin, her do-gooder's heart singing out even before she had reached them. Once she was close enough, she stepped up to take a caroling book from the girl she assumed was the leader of the small group, despite the fact that years of caroling had already drilled an exact memory of Christmas songs into her head.
She fell into line, hooking her arm eagerly with that of the closest girl's, and let her own mediocre voice ring out to join the collection, "as the shoppers rush home with their treasures!"

She seemed slightly taken aback by the blonde taking hold of her arm, but she regained her composure quickly enough, loosening up just a bit more from there on out. She felt her smile growing warmer as she closed her eyes, swaying along with the song as they all sang together.
"Hear the snow crunch, see the kids bunch..." Cordelia was more than certain that she could picture everything that the song was talking about. No matter what happened in Destiny City this year, they couldn't take this away.

"This is Santa's big Scene!" the lines from mediocre voices and the good, all merged into something that was at once more christmas than any professional choir could make.
Ume fumbled in her pockets and started passing out tiny bags of seeds to everyone she could, why not go ahead, and attract a few birds.

Rea Marshall, dressed in what looked to be one of Ume's victorian coats, half ran down the snowy street, holding on to her scarf as ran. She was a little late, but better late than never, right? On her shoulders and the top of her head a little dusting of snow gave her a really christmasy look, but hey, that's what happened when you stood under a snowy tree. Stepping up next to the carolers, she shot Ume a grin rarely gracing the strawberry blonde girl's face, her cheeks rosy from cold.
"And above all this bustle you'll hear~"
