As Tyven grew more skilled, Turner found her a more valuable training assistant. Some of the students prefered a sparring partner who was in their age group, and it always helped round out classes if there were an uneven number of participants.
Even with that being the case, Turner still carefully evaluated the coursework upcoming before deciding whether or not to request the snake's assistance, and looking over her current students file for the umpteenth time, she'd made her decision.
Emi was an interesting sort, her backbone hidden beneath layers of self-doubt and 'encouragement' by her various guardians. She would not appreciate training like this coming from someone unknown to her, not when she could be guided by someone she might trust.
Tyven arrived early, of course, Azucar's dark form slinking in after her and moving to curl up on the heated pillows kept in a corner of the room for that very purpose. Turner noted that the weather had turned, her blue eyes lingering briefly on the water that had beaded upon the tall, lean young woman's dark coat.
Hanging it up, Tyven rolled up the sleeves of her dress shirt to her elbow and removed her boots, setting them carefully beneath her coat. One hand went to the collar of her shirt, loosening the top three buttons. She was bound beneath, as usual.
"She'll be here shortly," was Turner's commentary, her gaze dropping back to her folder.

As if on cue, the door opened with the silence one would expect of a well-greased multi-million dollar netting company. Most places would squeak. Not D-Corp. Emi failed to appreciate the lack of squeaking, instead simply walking into the melee room.
Another leotard, another pair of sweatpants hung low on skinny hips. Ballet slippers, of course, and arm warmers that matcher her leotard and slippers - bright, vibrant royal blue. While not the earth colors Tyven had liked, the jewel tone fit her well, made the pale skin even softer and even made her eyes 'pop' a bit more.
The swan hesitated when she saw Tyven and Turner. She knew who the teachers would be, silly bird, but it still made her pause just to look at them. She tried to smile, and managed, however shyly.
"Good afternoon."

When not alone with her stoic TA, Turner's kilowat grin flickered on and she welcomed Emi warmly, dropping the file onto her desk so that it closed itself and moving from behind the wood.
"To you, as well, Emi! Are you ready for your lesson?"
Tyven, still quiet, was still calmly stretching her long limbs, lavender eyes lingering over the smaller girl. The color looked amazing, and the rich tone was one she liked. Her tone was soft, as usual, when greeting the swan.
"Good Afternoon, Emi." Now that the bird was here, she padded over to a panel on the wall, turning up the heater a bit before deciding to do without the shirt. It was carefully removed and hung up as Turner continued to talk, a racer-back tank top taken from her locker and put on in its place.
"I noticed you'd been looking into self-defense classes, and well, a slight, pretty girl like you? Chances are, you're bound to run into some trouble, and you mind need a bit more than a simple wrist release. Kuyoja, my colleage, has a bit of trouble when it comes to hands-on with his smaller, female students, for good reason. I, on the other hand, have the lovely Tyven to assist."
A gesture to the snake, who was rolling her slacks tightly to the knee. "Rather than her performing moves on you, you're going to be applying compliance holds to her. Tyven assures me that you won't be able to get to the point where it hurts."
The two 'instructors' met each other's gaze, obviously recalling the conversation where Tyven had stated that she wouldn't resist Emi's motions, therefore not receiving any pain.
"Any questions before we get started?"

"That's not why I was looking into self-defense classes," Emi blinked slowly. She pulled up one foot an peeled off her slipper, switching to do the same with the second. The swan hooked her finger in the hem of her sweatpants, eyebrows knotted together. "I was trying to learn how to disarm someone in particular."
Tyven would know exactly the person Emi spoke of; the little girl didn't bother to elaborate more. She simply smiled at Turner again, a little wider this time, and she tightened the cloth knots of her pants.
"No. I don't have any questions."

Turner almost grimaced, practically tasting the sudden tension that filled the room. If she had to pinpoint a source, it would be the silent girl who stood with her back to the others, staring into her locker for a long moment before quietly, firmly, shutting it.
Shrugging her shoulder's, the brunette began ticking off on her fingers as she talked. "That's a perfectly viable reason, however, it doesn't change what I said. You're going to learn to disarm a person's natural weapons today, which is almost the same principle. Sixty percent of women attacked are attacked by males that they trust, so I urge you not to share these techniques with the young men in your life, even for practice."
Striding across the mat, Tyven reached out to ensare Emi's wrist, a little firmer than usual. Her voice was cool, soft, as she provided words to accompany her action. "When you wrist release, it leaves you open to be grabbed again. You're going to learn what to do if your attacker is persistant, or if you need to escape the situation immediately." The tall girl's eyes were understanding as they met Emi's. "These are, primarily, defensive tactics. I know you're don't want to hurt anyone, especially if you can avoid it."

Emi frowned minutely in Tyvens direction, her head cocked to the side. "I haven't had to use what Kuyoja has taught me, Tyven." Not yet. The last two words hung in the air, something Emi did not want to recognize as a valid part of her statement. She knew Keivlos would not hurt her, even if some things happened by accident, but it was always good to try and soothe the savage beast that was Tyven.
Her fingers twitched when Tyven grabbed at them, her eyes stared up into her cousins own.
"I don't suppose skull-smashing someone would work," said the swan in a tiny voice. "Lian has suggested it. I think I would prefer your tactics, Tyven."

A brief smile flickered over that pale face, and Tyven's grip relaxed, lingering briefly before dropping the wrist it had captured. Turning her head to the side, she caught Turner's gaze, causing the older woman to approach.
"Alright, well. Tyven's going to put me in a hold. The full name would be a pain compliance hold. Now, as Tyven said, this doesn't mean you have to hurt the person. If they COMPLY with the hold, then they feel no pain, and they know you're serious." A casual smile, and she rotated her shoulders, loosening them. "We'll start with some wrist holds."
Tilting her head to one side, the snake stepped away from the swan, gesturing to Turner to come at her. The brunette launched herself, and Tyven's advanced speed let the younger girl side-step, grab Turner's wrist and rotate it inward, causing several joint locks in her wrist. Straightening the woman's arm, it locked her arm, then her shoulder, and with a grunt, Turner fell to the mat on her front, Tyven's firm grip holding her in that position.
Tuner didn't resist, and Tyven's grip let up as the snake explained to Emi. "This is a pronating wristlock. Turner will explain the specifics in a moment." Stepping back, she let the woman up. "We'll go through it slowly, then you may do it to me."

Emi had jumped back with the speed of the others, despite herself. It was more out of surprise than actual fear or apprehension. By this point in her life, she had grown accustomed to the speed and accuracy her cousins reflexes. Her hands to her mouth, she just watched as things went down - Turner, specifically.
"Oh," is all the swan said, her voice piping. She forced her hands to go down, kept herself from squirming at the thought of doing that to someone. "A-Alright. Show me."
It looked...
Handy.

Picking herself up, Turner gave Emi a good-natured grin before stretching her arm and shoulder. Reaching out to lightly push Tyven's shoulder, she shook her hand at the snake's rough handed nature.
A brief, startling grin from Tyven as she looked away, a little sheepishly, and she stepped back to let Turner explain things.
"Alright, pretty girl! Glad to hear you're up for it. We're going to practice the one I'm about to show you until you really get the hang of it, then Tyven's going to show you some simple small-joint manipulations that you can do quickly, and we'll be done for the day. No sense in over-doing it, hm?"
Holding out her own hand to demonstrate, she pointed out the affected areas of her body. "A Wristlock is a joint lock that mainly affects the wrist joint and the radioulnar joints through rotation of the hand. It's usually done by grabbing the opponent's hand, and bending and twisting it. It can be done easily from a standing position, simply by twisting the joint in an unnatural position, and is safe to practice with a willing partner," She nodded toward Tyven, "However, when applied suddenly or forcefully, it can tear ligaments, or cause fractures or dislocation of the bones involved."
She smiled. "Understand the concept? We're going to start with a supinating wristlock, which is a step before the pronating one."

"I think so," Emi held out her own hand, nails towards her face, palm to Turner. She studied the way her bones looked, imagined how they would look if she pushed or pulled there in just the way Turner had been talking about.
It did not mean she missed that smile from Tyven. There should have been a camera nearby, to celebrate such a pretty thing. Emi thought it best not to bring up just now but.. Still.
She smiled, fingers wriggled when she looked to her teachers. "I think I understand it. Rakha's done something like that a few times to - well, not to me."

"I should hope not!" Rakha would be her father figure, Turner knew. Pleased with Emi's mimicry of her actions, Turner raised her voice, tone amused. "Alright, Tyv, get over here and throw me around a bit more."
The smile returned, though it was slight, and Tyven approached, waiting until Turner held out her hand, palm down, as if to grab the snake. Reaching out, Tyven gripped her hand at the base, rotating it quickly so that Turner's thumb was pushed down and around. Her wrist was quickly rotated until her thumb ended up on the outside of her body, causing a sickening twist of the forearm. As Turner's body bent in response, Tyven pressed forward until the woman fell to the mat, this time on her back.
Kneeling, Tyven looked up to where Emi stood, making sure the swan saw the entire process, before letting Turner up to rub her wrist.
Chuckling to herself, Turner got to her feet and shrugged. "It can be done slowly, as well. Even if your opponent has a straight arm, rather than a bent one, it will not alleviate the pressure, because the shoulder joint won't allow the wrist to turn further."
Now the snake spoke up, brow furrowing slightly. "Someone like myself could escape this hold, if they saw it coming, because those with training will simply throw themselves over their own arm to avoid it. However, we can teach you a counter to that later. Most will not be able to get out of this."

Emi paled at the sight of Turner going down, just enough to go a pinch gray at the cheeks. She hadn't taken an anatomy class but she had witnessed plenty of accidents in the gym and in dance classes to know just how far a knee or elbow could twist - a shoulder couldn't be too much different, could it?
"You wouldn't attack me," the point was made with the slightest eyebrow twitch, her lips pinched into a smile. Emi rubbed her rubbed her hands together, eyebrows furrowed together in an echo of Tyven's own expression.
"We're going to do it slowly, correct? I'm not sure I could be that - that quick," her lashes twitched, eyes slanted to Tyven. "I'm practicing on you, right?"

A slight twitch at the corner of Tyven's mouth as her only response to Emi's comment on the snake's willingness to attack and instead noddedly slowly to her second remark.
"Yes, I'll correct and guide your manipulation of my joints throughout, so you'll do it accurately the first time. Then we will continue to pick up speed. If it gets to the point where you may hurt me, I will remove myself from the hold. Sound good?"
That flash of white teeth and Tyven was reaching for Emi, as if to draw her near...

Emi almost took a step back. It's what she usually did when someone tried to grab her, even Tyven, but it took her only a second to remember what it is she was trying to learn. Quicker than she gave herself credit for, Emis' fingers wrapped round the base of Tyvens hand, turning it in an echo of what she had seen tyven do to Turner only moments before.
If Tyven resisted, Emi didn't have the strength required to twist her arm as drastically as her cousin, but she tried.

As she'd mentioned before, the snake did a front flip over her own arm, pulling it free of the swan's grasp and flashing her a brief, toothy smile.
"Good," Bending her arm at the elbow and straightening it, to stretch out the muscles, she began to approach Emi once more. "Again."
They would do this technique repeatedly, for the next twenty minutes, until Emi no longer had to think about the movements. Stepping away to take a swallow from her water bottle, Tyven confered briefly with Turner, before padding back over to Emi.
"You've done well. Turner wants me to give you a book I have about these sort of techniques, to read over. You should keep practicing, and if you want to learn more, we can continue with another class."
