Okay, okay. Recently I watched a re-run of The Last of the TimeLords.

Im not sure if this has been said anywhere.

You know when the Master was burnt? Afterwards a misterious person in a hooded cloak picked up his ring. She had red fingernails.

So did Lucy Saxon, the Master's so called wife.

Coincidence? Maybe the same actor, maybe put in place to confuse us.

I appologise if this has been noticed before.

At the end of the episode, after the Master dies, the doctor burns his body on a pyre. When the Doctor turns to leave, a cloaked figure crouches, unknown to the Doctor, and picks up the Master's ring. he has red painted fingernails.

Yeah, that was the wife. She actually fired the shot that killed the Master, and did live through the whole event. She was the one who picked up the ring.

I don't think anyone knows for sure who that was, though the wife theory is pretty common. It hasn't been revealed yet, though, as far as I'm aware. Please don't state assumptions like facts, it only confuses people. We may find out in the Christmas Special next week in any case.

I think the wife theory is kind of weird. If she shot him, why would she want anything to do with him after he dies, unless she wants his power, but how would the masters power be in a ring? I think it was someone eles and there just trying to confuse us xp .

Just like the watch the ring could hold his essence and he has been known to use his hypnotic powers to his own end. "Faking" his death would certainly throw the Doctor off for any of the Masters new plans for galactic conquest..

I actually think it's Harriet Jones.

That girl in EOT (Not Lucy Saxon).

I'm not sure where I remember this from- but I think RTD jokingly referred to it as 'the hand of the Rani', which would be bringing back another Old Who character... but I'm pretty sure he was kidding and just meant to leave it open ended without really having anyone specific in mind...

Certainly I see Lucy Saxon's reason for killing him: she was partly mad, had a black eye and had undergone a year of her husband ruling the world to a frustrating extent. But what would she want with the ring after she killed him?

And Hariet Jones....thats an idea, though completely out of the blue... why would she take it without notifying the Doctor? Has it anything to do with her death?

Its all part of the mystery. It is a possibility it won't be mentioned in DW, but in torchwood.

Another theory is that Lucy didn't kill the Master because she was mad at him. She killed him as part of his final revenge against the Doctor.

Think about it...if Lucy hadn't shot him, the Master wouldn't have had that option to not regennerate. Perhaps they'd had that conversation...he had the Doctor in coustody for a whole year...maybe he mentioned to her that he would rather be dead than in the Doctor's position?

Or maybe she just had a not-the-real-mother moment, as in she would rather see her husband dead than with someone else. And with the number of fans who see slash between the Doctor and the Master a paranoid person might have been jealous.

Or, more deviously, what if he knew that he could survive an extended ammount of time without regennerating after death? I seem to recall a discussion about episodes of the old series about how the Master could still regennerate even if his body were rendered nothing but ash. What if he knew he could do that and had told her that if worse comes to worse, shoot him? Or, more simply, what if she knew that? Blend the ideas.

Maybe she was just mad...but if you look at her...those tears could've been anything, and Lucy never was exactly sane.

I agree. She never really was sane to begin with. She didn't care that no one really knew her husband's true past, she didn't care that he wasn't even human, and she was willing to kill that lady [crud i forget her name] without a second thought to protect the secret. She was, in my opinion, quite insane.

Very much.

I think the Master chose her because she was weak minded: after some easy influence she would 'behave'.

But then... when he took her to the end of time, 100 trillion... she enjoyed it. She loved the terror and pain. By that point, she was insane. I think she wanted to rule by the Masters side... but after a year of her being on the Valient by his side... we saw her in one of the last scenes with a black eye. After the Master kissed her, she rolled her eyes. This intends she was sick of him, sick of being treated like if you did 1 wrong thing you were dead.

At the end when she joins chanting the Doctor's name, she was either acting so they would not have anything to hold against her prior the Masters fall, or genuinly wanted him out.

And you're right. They're all matters and possibilities to why she shot him.
