The food court was an ideal place for meeting up in a mall. Today, it was especially ideal, because the Chinese place was giving out samples of bourbon chicken, and that stuff was amazing.
Portia tried not to think about what miscellaneous chicken parts the meat was pressed from as she munched away. She looked like a typical teenaged hoodlum, with ripped jeans, an old backpack and a colorful knit cap that, with all her hair tucked up into it, made her look bald. She snuck another piece of chicken-on-a-toothpick off the platter the young woman standing next to her was holding and wandered off, eyes scanning the crowds of people trying to spot the heads of her classmates.
There was exciting work to be done.

Louisa had agreed to meet up with a couple of girls to work on the stupid paper they had due. She wasn't sure why she had agreed to do it with others normally wanting to work on her own but she liked Alessa and well why not? Portia was pretty cool to so maybe they would actually have some fun? It's possible!
As Louisa reached the food court she smiled as she saw Portia.
"Hey Portia!" She called as see walked over to her, she was wearing jeans and a tshirt. She had recently toned down her punkish look, sometimes she didn't mind standing out and sometimes she did. She had decided to tone down herself to fit in more, look more invisible but she was comfortable so she didn't mind.
"Where is Alessa?"

Alessa didn’t need to invest any effort in looking normal and boring, because that was exactly how she was dressing every single day of the year. That is, today, a purple sweater and jeans.
A hand was waved at a distance, right above a small crowd that didn’t mind the disturbance. “Wait! I’m here! I’m here!” After a bunch of “sorry”, “excuse me” and “thanks”, the girl with glasses got out of the flock of tourists and reached Portia and Louisa.
Well, it seemed she was doing her usual job of being invisible quite well. “I’m not late, am I?” she asked, before she noticed the bourbon chicken. She hungrily took one piece as well, and ate it with an approving look.

"Not really." Portia said, though it sounded more like 'nom nom rear-y'. She chewed a couple more times and swallowed before continuing, "Naw! Louisa and I just ran into each other - haven't been waiting long at all."
She was bouncing on her toes, clearly fired up over the assignment set out before the three of them. "You guys ready? I can't wait to see how people react."

Louisa smiled as Alessa arrived and then looked back at Portia.
"Let's go! Where do you want to start?" After all they would have to start somewhere right? She wasn't overly bothered about where they started but somewhere would be a good idea.
"Oh and I want to find a shop with some chocolate, I really need some chocolate." Every now and then Louisa felt like chocolate and today seemed to be one of those days and of course there was the sugar rush as well, always good!

The brown-eyed girl discarded her toothpick at the mention of chocolate. Something about the season just begged to be celebrated with chocolate. Huh, no. Who was she fooling? There was no season for chocolate; that’s what the whole year is for.
“I could really go with some chocolate, too” replied Alessa cheerfully. “How about we buy and eat some right now? That’ll give us a boost of energy for the observation.”
A thoughtful pause. “Of course, if prefer to do that right now, I’m all for it!” She didn't want to upset her friends.

Portia paused, tilting her head to the side thoughtfully. She really wanted to sit in the middle of an elevator for two hours, but, on the other hand, "Chocolate sounds yummy!"
She tugged on the ear flaps of her hat. "Let's do that first -- candy shop's on the way to the elevator, anyway."

Louisa was glad the other two were in the mood for chocolate.
"Maybe we could buy a lot of chocolate and have a mini feast in the elevator while doing the project?" A chocolate party, what else would a group of girls need? Louisa started heading over to a shop that she knew would sell sweets or chocolate or both. A shop to get yummy sugary unhealthy food would be perfect right about now.
It didn't take long to find one and she went inside heading to where the chocolate was and there she waited for the other two girls. She also started the hard and almost impossible decision of what chocolate to have. Such a choice! She might have to go with good old Galaxy Caramel. That was good chocolate.

Portia went straight for the bars of bittersweet chocolate and grabbed a couple.
"Well if we're doing this, we should stop by the coffee shop and get something to drink, too!" She glanced over her shoulder at the other two looking for confirmation.

It only took a nod for Alessa to agree. “I’m voting chocolate feast!”
However, when she arrived at the shop, the huge offer embarrassed her. What should she pick? Good ol’ plain chocolate? With milk filling? Oh, caramel and nuts looks so delicious as well… she turned to Louisa. “Say… which one should I buy that’s good but not too expensive? I’m on a limited budget, here.” Her pointer finger resting on her chin, she watched the shelves like a child who could only choose a single gift for Christmas.
What if that pretty milk chocolate was too sweet? Maybe she should go for dark chocolate.
"Wait for me, Portia, I'm almost done, I swear..."

Portia nodded, head bobbling animatedly. "It's cool! It's cool. I'll wait up."
She headed for the front register, set the chocolate down on the counter and handed the cashier the cash card her mother had given her.

Louisa had quite a bit of money, she had been doing odd jobs for her parents and some of her wildlife photos had been bought by a magazine so she was picking up huge packs of chocolate.
"Pick them all Alessa, I can pay for them as I actually have money at the moment! Not literally all but yeah pick whatever you want!" What better things to spend money on then chocolate? She turned to Portia and nodded, she wasn't really one for hot drinks and they had a selection of bottled milkshakes here, much more Louisa's style.
"I think I will buy some drinks here and then follow you both over." She smiled at the other girls before walking past Alessa to grab a couple of bottles of chocolate milkshake, oh she had been craving some of this for a while. She then waited for Alessa to pick so she could pay for it all.

“Really? You don’t mind? Thank you so much!” Alessa held her hands together in enthusiastic gratitude briefly before ending up with 4 bars in her arms of the sorts mentioned above. Delighted, the choice of the drink turned out not to be as hard. Orange juice did the trick just fine. Most of her pocket money went to movies and the arcade; she wasn’t used to being able to afford treats, especially since there was a lack of parents in need of a sitter in the area.
She put her selection next to Louisa’s at the register. “Which one do you prefer? I won’t eat too much of it so that we can share it in the elevator” proposed the dark-eyed girl. “And you, Portia?”

"Chocolate is chocolate!" She replied in a chipper tone as her transaction finished. She stepped to the side, out of the way of other customers, waiting for her group mates to finish their shopping.
"I was thinking," Portia began after a moment, "what if we greeted everyone who came on? That might be interesting - gauge their reaction! That could be what we take notes on."
((So sorry it took so long to reply. Christmas was really hectic and yucky))

"Sure!" Louisa wasn't too bothered what they did. She bought what looked like enough chocolate to feed an army and shoved it in her bag.
"At least we won't starve." She then opened the bottle she bought and took a mouthful. Milkshake was the best drink ever, oh how she loved it! She put the lid back on though she wasn't going to drink it all now, goodness knows how long they were going to be sitting in an elevator for.
"Everyone ready then?" Time to sit in an elevator.
