The trees rustled in the dark, and the faintest sound caused Khuluma to freeze in place. He held his breath, and his wide, blue eyes looked out, ears back as his wings tucked close. Night was never Khuluma’s favorite time. He was a poor navigator during nightfall, and while he could see, he could not see as well as he would have during the day. Little movements tricked him, and the animals he was not familiar with came out, their faces strange and their eerie sounds rising up from the prairie.

Tucked into a patch of high grass, he was looking for a safe place to wait out the night, rest his wings, before he could take to flying tomorrow morning. While most nights he could find a patch and fall asleep without much problem, there was an unnatural energy under his feet that kept him moving and awake.

The air was heavy with noises, and he felt himself jolt at each new bark or yip that came to him. What was that? How far were they? He suddenly was reminded that he knew very little about how to protect himself in the world, and even as a juvenile, he had not mastered anything. Pathetically, he flexed his claws, reminding himself they were there, but then that he had little idea on how to use them. Security was not with him today, and he crept, slowly, quietly, …but not for long.

Khuluma was a talker, and by nature, he couldn’t keep his mouth shut.

With no one else about, his nerves got to him.

It’s fine. Nothing out there but birds and prairie dogs.” A loud howl floated above, causing him to freeze before he waited for it to go quite gain. He picked up his pace. “Really big prairie dog. Nothing that can hurt a god. No one cares about you. You hardly look delicious. Just keep low and find a little corner to hide in.” He was very aware he was a brilliant gold and had white wings, something that stood out if he wasn’t in golden grass. Luckily his was, but in the darkness, he seemed to glow from the bright hues of his coat.

Mychasi heard the night sounds. To him it was music to his ears. Now, for him, day time was a scary place. He couldn't see anything at all. Though he wouldn't admit that he couldn't see it. He yawned as he laid under a tree. His wings folded gently at his side as he scanned the land. Many things he could see at night. So many animals were active. Small ones where he was, for the moment. He'd counted at least 20 bunnies in the last ten minutes. It made him rather hungry. Even if he didn't really need to eat right now.

It took another ten minutes for him to hear something more his size.... Or at least his type. Lion. He wasn't sure if it was a god or not. He could hear the critter, but not see him. Could smell him too. Which meant, he didn't know he was out here yet. And before he could really guess what it was, he heard him say god. A brow raised as did his body. Now deeply scanning the area. His eyes came upon a yellow... Or mostly yellow anyways, lion cub. "Scared of a little dark?" He asked the cub with a rough voice.

Mychasi wasn't one to mess with others. So he was completely serious about his question. He had no rudeness in it. No hint that he might harrass the young godling. He simply wanted to help him a bit. Not much though. He didn't want to get stuck with some small thing. He didn't want to be someone's big brother. He already had a brother. He didn't need another one. Though, he hadn't seen his brother in a while. No matter. "Lost?" He asked another question, as he moved closer to the other. His wings still folded back as he moved towards him. His tail was different then this cubs tail.

He didn't understand that. He had only seen tails like his on other gods. He was almost beginning to think it was something natural. He knew that regular mortal lions had the tail that this young male did. Though he did have a ton of hair. Almost like himself. Though, Mychasi didn't like messing with his own hair. He had it put in a braid by some creatures of the night he had asked to do it. He couldn't remember if it was a raccoon or a monkey that did it. Didn't matter really. "I'm Mychasi, god of Nocturnal animals" He announced so that the other wouldn't be quite as scared. Hopefully not scared at all.

With his ears peeled for hearing the creaks and caws that came out in the middle of the night, the serious, mellow voice of the older God was out of place and just as surprising as any loud roar. Scared stiff, he froze as his fur bristled. Here he had been telling himself he wasn’t alone, and now it was true. Being dark and with the moon being a sliver in the sky, he could barely make out what it was. It was an older male, he could tell from the tone. It was near, which didn’t make him feel any less nervous and afraid. Not in any state to start lying, he shook his head. “A little afraid.” The squeak of his usually elegant voice showed it was more than just ‘a little’.

While it was dark, the moment the other God drew near, Khuluma could take in his shape and then the slowly forming details of his body. It didn’t take the announcement of who Mychasi was to tell Khuluma that he was a god. The juvenile has meet many before this encounter and he felt a bit better in seeing someone of his own species. Not a familiar face, but at least a roughly familiar shape. He said roughly because Mychasi has odd wings like a bat and a fluffy tail rather than the slender one Khuluma had.

I’m Khuluma, God of Rhetoric. I’m not really lost as I’m not going in any set direction. I’m…just trying to find a place to rest.” Finding a safe place for him was necessary. Even he knew he was small and that sleeping made him even easier to attack. Who would attack a god, he didn’t know, but he was still worried for his own well being.

Nocturnal Animals….” He wanted to say he knew the word, but it escaped him. It was there in his head, but he couldn’t really put a finger on what “Nocturnal” meant. “Sorry, but what is that again?"

Mychasi couldn't really understand what he was afraid of. The yellow juve, he suspected, was more safe at night then in the day. At least in the eyes of Mychasi. Then again, he knew that not everyone was like himself. To where he couldn't see well during the day. That was an understatement. He couldn't see AT all unless around his brother who he hadn't seen in a very long time. "There is no reason to be afraid, Khuluma." He told him in a not so soothing voice. He wasn't really good at this whole thing. He never really dealt with kids before. His tail seemed to flick a bit every so often. "The night is just as safe as the day." He told the other, even if it was a lie in his eyes.

"I'm sure that it won't take too long." He said with a nod. "Maybe try to sleep in a very tall tree" He was trying to help, but knew he was failing pretty badly. Mychasi never worried about finding safe spot to sleep. He never worried about others attacking him as he slept. For he was a god. His appearance alone scared mortals away. If they knew what he was anyways. He didn't hide his looks because he didn't see a need to. He wasn't hiding from anyone.

"I am the god of those animals that are up at night. I can help other's see at night as well." He said with a grim look. He was a most pathetic god at least in his own eyes. He wasn't that exciting at all. But then again, someone's gotta do it, right? "Not the most interesting god, I suppose." Though, he didn't think the young god's domain was too exciting either so he suppose they were even. "Though, I'm probably one of the better gods to run into at night."

It was an interesting domain to say the least, and one that he wished he had at the moment. “You can see in the dark? That must be handy. I can only see this and that, but…there is a lot of things I catch but can’t really see.” Namely the shadows that moved around quickly here and there. The breaking of branches, the low howls in the distance, all of these jabbed at his instincts to find a safe place to hide, god or not.

Do you ever get afraid at night then? I guess never, right? I guess if you can see what’s around you, you can’t be afraid of it.” He startled when a branch broke somewhere and slowly back stepped closer to the bigger god, looking around with wide eyes that could only see so far. Instead, somber or not, he was using the Nocturnal Animals God as his form of cover and protection.

"You wouldn't happen to know a safe place to sleep for the night?" His large blue eyes went up to look at the god, wondering if he knew of any good places he could cuddle into for the night and sleep. Somewhere where he wouldn't be eaten.

He nodded at the cub carefully. "Yes, but it means I can't see in the sunlight. It burns my eyes, and everything is far too bright for me to stand it. Making me helpless in the day, where a lot of other's aren't." He told him the down fall of his ability as a god. There were always ups and downs to each domain, he figured. There was no perfect one.

"Being afraid of something isn't something to be ashamed of. But no, I don't suppose I am afraid of the night. The day, for me, is more frightening." He smiled. "But sometimes seeing something makes it more frightening then not being able to see it at all." He told the other with care. "So, maybe seeing what is moving out here might make you more afraid then you not being able to see it." It was an interesting concept to think about. Though, it probably wasn't helping the situation much. He wasn't good at reassuring kids. "Don't worry, that was just a bunny." he told the young cub.

"Well, any place is safe here. No preditors at all. Apart from you and I. Mostly deer, and smaller creatures that'd never bother you are around." He tried to comfort the other with that. Maybe it'd work, but probably wouldn't. "But, I think I saw a small cave that someone like your size could fit in." He tried to recall.

The older god certainly had a way to go in comforting children, and Khuluma was not felt with feeling any better than he did before he met the god. The only feeling he got was that at least the bigger god was not going to eat him, was talking to him, and could see for him. In a sense, just being there was comforting, and he found himself slinking closer and closer to the god’s legs as he heard more and more noises in the darkness. “You might say not seeing is a good thing, but if you cannot see what is coming at you, you can’t be prepared.” This was also true, and just because there was nothing that could hurt him here, what was to say about another place tomorrow night? It didn’t mean that bunny that made that noise didn’t scare him any less, and he shot near Mychasi’s legs until he was pressed against his legs, huddled close and looking with wide eyes all around him, worried.

If…if you don’t mind, can you show me where this cave is at? I don’t think I can sleep in the open. Just because there isn’t anything that can kill me right now, doesn’t mean something can come to get me from someplace else.” There were some pretty scary creatures out there, not to mention gods and goddesses.

This kid confused Mychasi to no end. How could someone like him be so scared of this land? He didn't know what else to really say to it. He nodded, but figured the cub didn't see him nod. "I could show you with no problem." He told him. Though, he didn't like the idea of becoming a temporary baby sitter. He didn't like the idea of being around little kids. They kinda scared him. What if he got hurt while he was there? What was Mychasi to do? He couldn't heal anyone. Then again, what if the kid wanted to play with him? He wasn't good at that either.

Though, the chances of this cub wanting to play with him was very slim. He seemed more likely to try to hide in his fur, then trying to play at the moment. Mychasi raised a brow and looked at the cub curiously. Was this how all kids were? If they were, they'd be easier then he expected. Though, he'd have to learn better comforting skills.

Glad he was being taken along safely, he moved out of the way to walk alongside the god, staying close as his ears turned to catch the noises and movements in the darkness. While his sight had adjusted, it wasn’t as perfect as it would have been in the daylight. How Mychasi was at ease was only due to his realm, but what did that say for other things? While he looked strong, what was he afraid of? It was an interesting question, and one Khuluma was not shy to ask.

Thank you for taking me. Can I ask you something? He looked around him, up ahead in the darkness of the night. “If you are the God of the animals of the night, does that mean you are afraid of the day? Or are you okay with both times of day? Do you ever get afraid of the darkness and shadows in the night?” While he had meet the Goddess of Night, a warm female who had tended to him for a night, the unknown from the shadows still worked on his wild, young imagination.

Mychasi looked at the cub as he asked his question. He hesitated for a moment before thinking upon a good answer. He wouldn't say he was afraid of the day, just wasn't an enjoyable experience for him. Though, he did have a brother who made it a little easier. If he was around him. He looked away from the young godling. "I can't really say I am, or I am not. My brother is just like me, just his domain is of day animals." He spoke with honesty. He had no reason to really hide anything.

"I cannot see well in the day. Well, I can't see at all. Everything's overly bright, and it hurts my eyes." he told him trying to get him to understand things a bit. "But I wouldn't say I'm afraid of the day, it just pains me." Then he moved on to the next question. Strange, did kids always ask questions? He didn't remember if he did. It'd been so long ago. "No, I can't say I'm afraid of shadows or darkness of the night. I actually prefer them over anything."

They were almost to the cave. Mychasi stepped lightly and made sure that his long mane was out of the way of the cub as they walked. He didn't want the little guy to step on him. Or himself to step on his hair. It'd happen before, not often, but he's done it before. "Shouldn't be much longer"

He walked in silence for a moment, before looking back up to the god. Having to be in pain during the day must be horrible, and he felt grateful that his domain did not inflict any harm on him or limit what time of the day or night he could go out. While he couldn’t see well at night, he could at least see to some extent. True, he was worried and terrified of what he couldn’t see and what glimpses of movement he could, but at least he could see what was sometimes coming. At least he could go out during the day and enjoy the sun shining above and the bright colors that shimmered in the daylight.

“Do you hate not being able to spend so much time during the day?” He asked, wondering out loud to the god. “To be limited? I know I can’t see well during the night, but at least I can see a little.” He paused, looking out when he heard a rustle of grass that could have been anything, big or small, aggressive or timid. “Do you feel bad that you might be something that creatures fear by being a God of the night creatures? A lot of us in the day go to sleep at night and find shelter from what could happen to us when he can’t see as well. I’m a god and even I know better than to roam around in the dark. You’re being very kind to me, but if I did not hear you speak or was given help by you, I would have been afraid of you. I don’t think I could live happily when people might run off before I even have a chance to speak.” His ears turned back, thinking of how bad it would be to open your mouth to say “hello” and everyone rushing off in fear before you had a chance. It made him feel bad for being afraid of the older God at first. “I’m sorry for being afraid of you at first.”

He didn't look down at the godling as more questions started to arise. He just let out a silent sigh and shook his head. He was going to be stuck with answering lots of questions it seemed. Tonight, just wasn't his night. At least they weren't questions he didn't know. That'd be even worse. Either making something up, or saying he didn't know wasn't what he liked to do at all.

"No, I can't say I hate not being able to. I sleep when the sun comes up, so I tend to get enough of it depending where I sleep." He told the cub honestly. He had no secrets. Nor did he really know how to lie about stuff like this. A frown was upon his face, which was one reason he wasn't looking at the godling. "I wouldn't think of it being limited." He told him. "Maybe it's because I've lived like this all my life." He shrugged. "It'd be like telling a completely blind creature that they are limited to things because they can't see. They aren't."

He could go in the sun, if he kept his eyes shut, or if he wanted to withstand the brightness and painful feeling that it showed to provide. "No, I can't say I do feel bad. Everyone has their right to be frightened of something. If they choose to be frightened of me, then all I can say is that there are worse gods out there to be afraid of." He said with a nod. "Things can be deceiving." He added for good measures. True, there were a lot out there that were afraid of the night. And things that were in it. But it wasn't his doing for such things. He wasn't the cause of their fear. "There is a reason to hate things at night, but I'm not it. I just am here to support the well being of those in the night. Who have just as much trouble as those who are in the day." He continued. "I can't stop someone from being frightened of me, other then show them that I'm nothing more then just another lion trying to do what I do." He added. "I can't say I'm the nicest, cause I've been told I'm very grumpy."

"You don't need to apologize." he said simply. They were there now. Finally to the place he had mentioned. Thank god! He was almost done babysitting it seemed. Or perhaps maybe not. He feared what the other might ask him next. He couldn't say no to a cub. Not when they had no one else. He hated that part about him. He wanted to take in anyone who needed help. Even if he wasn't the greatest with kids. Or even liked them. But there was a small part of him that made him obligated to do so. "We're here." He said simply.

He nodded, eyes to the ground as he took in what he had been told. It was misunderstanding on the part of the one being afraid than those that caused the fear. It was a good kernel of advice to take in and live by, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t curl in anytime he went to sleep in the dark and wondered just what was out there. Advice was one thing and even if he knew more about what he shouldn’t be afraid of, it didn’t mean he would easily overcome his fears of what stirred in the dark.

With that, he was glad to be at the cave that Mychasi had promised, and as they neared, Khuluma let out a light, boyish laugh. “Well, you sound grumpy, but that gives you your charm. You might sound gruff, but you’re very kind.” He could say that Mychasi even came off as a big cuddly-face, but that was not something he was going to openly voice. Not this time around.

The cave that he showed was actually very nice and probably had given shelter to a few rogue families for the night. In this case, it was just going to be a temporary resting place for the godling. As he walked in, turning about to gauge how comfortable he would feel, he looked back at Mychasi. “So…I guess this is goodbye? Are you…going to leave to do your god duties?” The godling looked down, curling his finger into the dirt before looking up. It was nice to have someone there when he went to bed. It made him feel safe, especially with someone as big and who knew the night as well as Mychasi did. Maybe he could talk to him until he feel asleep, but he hated to impose. Then again, maybe he could convince Mychasi to stay for just a little while longer.

“Where you afraid of anything silly when you were young that you’re not afraid of now?” Khuluma settled in the dirt, looking up at the god in the shadows. The white mane and braid was easy to pick out even in the darkness.

The kid had a way to make things sound a lot better then they were. Like, him being grumpy. It seemed like a good compliment, though he wasn't sure how to exactly respond to it. He didn't think anyone would think him sounding grumpy was a good thing. It almost baffled him in a sense.

Mychasi knew what was coming as the other started to speak about leaving. He cringed at the thought, but only slightly to try to avoid the young cub from seeing it. Just want he didn't want to happen. All he could do was wait for it, and not really say anything. Or hope that he didn't ask at all and only ask what he just did. When it didn't come, he supposed the cub had other ideas. Another question... Great....

"I Suppose I will." He started off answering the first part, then quickly moved to the next. "I can't really remember. It's been ages." He was sure there were possibly something in his past that he was afraid of but over come and slowly forgot about it. But he wasn't as young as he seemed to look. "I am sure there was, though. Everyone's afraid of something at one point in time."

Khuluma was quickly realizing that while Mychasi was kind and answered his questions, he didn’t offer much else to the conversation. Not much of a talker, his answers were direct and the other god had yet to ask anything about himself. It would seem he didn’t want much to do with the godling, and Khuluma felt personally hurt that he wasn’t good enough company to keep the other god around. If Mychasi was any other god, he would say the problem was because the god couldn’t see just how pretty he was, but with eyesight at night, there was no excuse. The blame had to fall someplace else, and Khuluma felt that if he didn’t find out what, he would be sleeping alone again tonight.

Seeing as there was little else keeping Mychasi around, Khuluma went for a different idea. “I see. I guess you must have been around for a long time. I’m still afraid of a lot of things.” He looked around the cave he was in and then slowly stood up, curling his tail in the most pathetic display he could muster of a frightened, skittish little godling. “Are you sure this cave is safe? It isn’t anyone’s home by chance and it’s not occupied by anyone? I just can’t see if it’s completely safe and vacant before we got here.” He moved closer to the wall, looking with wide eyes into the back of the cave. “Mychasi, do you see anything there?” If there was no way he could keep him here with conversation, maybe pity would work. To add to it, he started to move a little closer to Mychasi, keeping his ears flat and making his wings shiver. Sometimes being young was a great advantage in trying to get your way.
