Aleu hopped through the snow as she joined her mother today on a patrol of the eastern border of their pack lands. She was excited to get the chance to spend some quality time with her mother as well as see more of their home. The snow was quite deep here and it made for slow travel for the young wolf, but she was determined to do this on her own. Well unless she got stuck too deep in the snow, then she would need some help.
The trees were so different now, no longer were their leaves brightly colored, no now very few had their leaves. The forest was dull in a way, but she could still see the beauty in it. "Do you think we will see anything interesting?" She asked her mother while climbing a particularly large snow drift. It was a silly question, since Aleu found almost anything and everything interesting.
When she reached the top of the mound she turned to look at her mother. The snow crunching under her feet gave her a great rhythm for a song, but then her wold turned dark and yet white at the same time as the snow under her gave way. She fell through the snow bank. She looked up to the hole where she had fallen it, it would be pretty hard to get out of here by herself. So she let out a small little howl. "Mommy!" She called from within the snow.

Chivosi strolled along after her excited daughter, chuckling slightly to herself as the snow caused the young pup some difficulty. it wouldn't for much longer she knew - though they were still small the pups were growing quickly. It was something she both treasured and regretted, but Pups grew up - thats the way nature worked. All she could do was make sure she treasured the short period of time when they were still tiny.
She had decided to take Aleu with her this morning for just such a reason, the other pups had been busy with their father down by the river, but Aleu was a bit more of a home body then the rest and never seemed to stray very far from her, a trip along the eastern boarder was safe enough and she knew the pup would enjoy the sights and sounds - especially sounds when it came to Aleu - of the winter forest.
"There is always something interesting to see in the forest Love...the trick is just in paying attention enough to see it" She told the young wolf warmly as she scaled a larger snow drift and turned about to face her. Chivosi was about to call out a warning to be careful hen the now suddenly gave way. shaking her head slightly she loped over to the place Aleu had disappeared and peered down the hole. "You have to be careful on the drifts" she told her as she dug down a bit before reaching in to pick her up by the scruff and placing her back on solid ground "Snow is funny sometimes - it can seem strong enough to hold you up in one spot, and then collapse in another"

Aleu shook her body to rid herself of some of the snow that now clung to her fur. "I think I learned that lesson the hard way." She said with a smile on her maw. She hadn't expected the snow to be so tricky. It looked safe enough but looks could be deceiving. "Is the winter long?" In a way she hoped it was, that would give her more time to play in the snow and explore the new wintery world. And yet a part of her wanted winter to end quickly so the leaves and more importantly the birds would come back. Some birds had stayed around, some new ones had arrived but most of them had left att he first snow fall.
"Why did the birds leave?" Aleu asked as she more carefully made her way through the snow, trying to avoid the areas that looked deep. "Did the other animals leave as well?" She hadn't seen as many small animals around since the snows had arrived and that made her somewhat sad.

That was Aleu for you Chiv thought to herself as they started off again - always so full of questions about everything around her. Chiv thought it meant she was a particularly smart pup...but of course she could be a bit biased there. "It will last a few moons" Chiv replied "But then spring will come" she continued as they walked along. Aleu chattering about at her side.
"Well...they don't like the cold, birds are very small creatures and the cold is hard for them, and all thier food goes away in the winter...there are no bugs or seeds or berries for them to eat here anymore" she answered absently, though her attention had been captured by another scent on the wind. She could be mistaken but she was fairly sure a lynx had come this way not very long ago. Her thoughts were confirmed a few moments later as they came across a paw print. "Well some of them sleep in the winter and some turn white to match the snow and make themselves harder to see" She continued before nudging Aleu and pointing out the paw print. "Come along..lets follow them for a bit" Chiv told the pup as they altered their path to trot along side the strange set if prints. A female and her cub by the looks of things.
Pyxis was going through nearly the same thing as Chiv at the moment - in the sense that she was being pestered by her rambunctious kitten while trying to do something else. The lynx's short tail twitched slightly but in all honestly she supposed it could be worse - she could have all three kittens with her at the moment instead of just the one.

Lyra did her best to keep up with her mother while they made their way through the snow. It was quite deep in areas so she had to jump from paw print to paw print at times to keep from getting stuck. "Where are we going mother?" She asked, knowing that her mother always knew the way, even if she herself didn't. Taking a closer look at the track Aleu was excited about following them. Perhaps she would find an interesting animal at the end, although she couldn't help but wonder why creatures would sleep in the winter. Wouldn't they miss out on all the fun and snow? "I'm glad I'm not sleeping through the winter." Aleu stated as they continued to follow the tracks and for just a moment she thought she saw some movement up ahead. "Hey what's that?" Whatever it had been, it was the most beautiful purple she had ever seen. It couldn't be Merrill, she was back at the den as far as she could remember.

Pyxis glanced back, her short tail jerking in amusement as she saw her daughter leaping from paw print to paw print to paw print in order to avoid the deep parts of the snow, the kittens could be bothersome at times but Pyxis counted them as a blessing, especially sweet Lyra whose temper made her a joy to be around.
"We are exploring for a new home range" She told the kitten after a few moments pause, their old home was running short on prey animals - the result of a rather large wolf pack moving in. The pack living in these lands however was quite a bit smaller and Pyxis thought perhaps their land would be better managed.
"Well" Chivosi started with a slight smile as she looked at her daughter "I expect it was one of the owners of the tracks we're following" she told the pup "Come along, lets try to catch up" She continued as she picked up her pace, moving into a slow jog, knowing that Aleu could keep up with that pace fairly easily even in the snow.
It didn't take them long to catch up with the lynx pair - a mother and kitten she noted, just as she had expected. "Hello there" she called out to the cats.
Pyxis had been so busy talking to her daughter that she hadn't noticed the approaching wolves until the female called out, turning about the Lynx quickly took stock of the brown female and her pup. She carried herself like an Alpha and Pyxis decided it would be best to be cordial if they wanted to live together in peace.
"Hello" she answered with a slight tail twitch.

Lyra didn't quite understand why they were looking for a new home but she would certainly ask about that later. "I hope there are lots of friends at our new home." She told her mother. Then no sooner did she say that then she heard a voice calling from behind. She turned to see the female wolf and pup approaching. She had only seen wolves once or twice before and by her mothers reaction she believed these ones to be safe. But just to be certain she got slightly behind her mother and watched the other two come closer.
Aleu was excited about finding out exactly what was making the tracks and happily followed her mother through the snow. "We're following the tracks." She said in her melodic voice, more singing it than saying it. Then she spotted them, two very brightly colored animals up ahead.
They were lynx as far as she could tell. Though she had never seen one before she had heard about them from one of the many stories she had made her mother tell her. Oh this was an exciting day. Not only did she get to spend some time with her mother but she got to see some lynx as well.

Chivosi slowed to a halt a few paces from the cat's giving the mother a warm look - YMCA was a wolf pack sure but she didn't see any reason not to be friendly towards other's in the area as well "Are you just passing through?" She asked the female Lynx "My names Chivosi, but most call me Chiv...and this" she motioned to Aleu "Is Aleu"
Pyxis nodded politely as the wolf introduced herself, she seemed friendly enough and Pyxis had never had any problems with wolves. "We are searching for a new range" she answered the female truthfully "my name is Pyxis and my Kitten is Lyra" She continued
Searching for a new home? why that must be hard, Chiv thought to herself - though she decided not to pry and try to find out why "These lands are quite flush with game" She told the Lynx 'I'm sure it can support both wolves and Lynx" She continued "Aleu why don't you and Lyra go and play while Pyxis and I talk a while?" She suggested, knowing the pup would absolutely adore the chance to play with a Lynx, though she tossed a question look to Pyxis.
"That sounds like a great idea" Pyxis answered "go on an play Lyra" She told the kitten, it would be nice to have another adult to talk to for a while - and well if the wolves weren't adverse to her being around this might just mke a nice place to stay for a while.

Aleu's eyes lite up when her mother told her to play with the other Lynx. Oh this was so exciting, not only did she get to meet a lynx but she would get to play with one too. With her eyes twinkling with happiness she looked at the small lynx half hiding behind her mother. "Come on lets play." She called out in her soft melodic voice.
Lyra took a hesitant step before hearing her mother's approval of this idea of play. With a small smile crossing her maw she trudged through the snow towards the wolf pup. She was quite a bit bigger than her but that wouldn't stop her from playing.
"Hi." She said somewhat shyly coming to a stop not far from Aleu. Then with a sudden look of humor on her face she reached out with her paw and tapped Aleu on the shoulder then took off at a run. "Tag you're it." She yelled out.
A laugh escaped Aleu's maw as she watched the lynx run off. She hesitated for a few moments to give Lyra a head start before running after her. After all the lynx seemed to have a harder time in the snow so it was only far to let her get farther away before chasing after her.

Chiv and Pyxis exchanged similar motherly looks as their daughters ran off to play the age old game of tag - it was a game that never seemed to grow old, each generation picking it up and playing it with as much gusto as the one before it. "Kids" the she-wolf remarked a she sat next to the Lynx mother, shaking her head slightly as they floundered through the snow - she was impressed however by Aleu's sense of fair play, letting the smaller Lynx kitten gt a bit of a head start before bounding after her in the snow. "Indeed" the Lynx responded with a slight bit of humor in her voice, her bright eyes keeping watch over the two younglings - who seemed to be hitting it off quite well while their parents were content to merely sit and watch for a spell. "They seem to be getting on well" she shared with the wolf "They do don't they?" Chiv agreed "I'm sure Aleu would like to have a playmate around other then her siblings" She continued after a few moments thought.

Lyra was doing her best to run through the snow but her short legs did slow her down quite a bit. She could hear Aleu's laughter coming up from behind he and she knew the little pup as closely in on her. Bouncing behind a tree she tugged her body up against the trunk hoping that Aleu wouldn't find her.
Her laughter couldn't be helped, it was so nice to play with someone other than her litter mates. Aleu's legs carried her easily through the snow so she kept her pace slow as to not overtake the Lynx quickly. When she saw Lyra duck behind the tree she came to a stop on the other side of it. Crouching close to the snow she moved slowly around the tree until she spotted Lyra up against it, looking in the other direction to see if Aleu was coming.
"Gotcha!" She yelled out as she lept at the at the lynx.
Lyra tumbled through the snow as Aleu tackled her. She really hadn't expected the wolf to come around that side of the tree. Her laughter melded in with Aleu's and when the two stopped tumbling they were both covered in white powdery snow.
"That was fun! Let's do it again."
"Okay!" Aleu stood up shaking the snow from her fur. The with a smile on her maw she tapped Lyra on the shoulder with her paw. "You're it this time." She sang out as she ran away.

Lyra bounced after Aleu struggling a bit through the deeper snow, but with enough determination she was able to catch up the the bigger wolf in no time. Pouncing on Aleu once she got close enough. "Got you!" She called out with the laugh.
"I like playing with you." Aleu said as she laid in the snow slightly panting. It was nice to have a playmate different than her siblings...especially Derecho, he could be a pain some days. "I wish you could stay here."
"Me too." Lyra said with a smile. "Hey lets go ask my mom if we can stay here. We were looking for a new home anyways."
"Yeah let's go!" Aleu sang happily and took off in the direction of the two adults with Lyra tagging along behind. It didn't take all that long for them to reach where her mother was. Skidding to a halt she danced around Chiv. "Mom, mom, mom! Can Lyra and her mother stay here? I really like playing with her." Tail wagging in excitement and anticipation of an answer, Aleu looked between her mother and Pyxis with hopeful eyes.

Chivosi had been enjoying her conversation with Pyxis while thier children played - they seemed to be getting along as far as Chiv could tell as she watched them bounce through the snow and it was nice to speak with another mother - something she didn't get the chance to do with the pack as she was the only mother.
When Aleu and Lyra came bouncing back sometime later Chiv gave her daughter a warm look before turning to look upon Pyxis with a shrug "I don't have a problem with it, there's more then enough room and prey for us all" She offered.
Pyxis regarded her daughter for a few moments after the wolf Chivosi made her offer, it was a generous offer and not one some wolf packs would make - it would be silly to squander it without at least seeing if the land was a good fit. she nodded "We can stay for a while...see how things work out "

Aleu's tail wagged wildly as both parents agreed to the idea of Lyra staying here. Well her mother would be staying too but what Aleu cared about right now was that she would have a new play mate. Turning she happily tackled Lyra. "You get to stay! Oh we are gonna have so much fun together." There was so many things Aleu wanted to show the lynx. Oh and she could be a new set of ears to listen to her songs.
Lyra rolled with Aleu's tackle and laughed. She was glad she would get to stay, maybe they would even make this their new home. She could only hope that her mother would choose to stay for a long time. Slipping out of Aleu's grip she got to her feet once more and bounced over to her mother giving her a nuzzle. "I'm glad we are staying." She said in a quiet voice.
"Come on Lyra. I will show you around!" Aleu called out bouncing around happily. "Can I mom? Can I show her around?" Once again Aleu was the type of pup to ask permission to do something before running off, not like the others especially Derecho.

"Yes you can" Chiv told her daughter as she asked to show the lynx around - Aleu knew where she was and was not allowed to go and unlike most of her other pups Aleu Chiv could trust to actually obey the rules. "Just be careful" She told the two younglings before turning to the mother with a slight shake of her head as if to say 'kids'. "Since they'll be off plaing I guess i could show you around too if you'd like" She offered after a few moments.
Pyxis dipped her head slightly to give Lyra permission to go off with the wolf pup, Chiv didn't seem to think there was any danger and well she had lived in the area long enough to know if it was safe or not. Pyxis would trust her judgement. "That would be nice" She told Chiv in acceptance of the tour.
