Name: Jean-Luc James Jones (And with a father like his, he was lucky not to be named 'Gene Roddenberry Jones', really.)

Nicknames: Jean-luc responds to 'Jean-luc', 'Luke', 'Jean', but would like to mention that he hates being called Tiberius, J.J, and Jeannie.

Gender: Male

Age: 16

Birthday: December 23rd

Sign: Capricorn

Gemstone: Garnet

Blood Type: A

Fav. Food: Homecooked anything, really. Hot macaroni and cheese that's crunchy on top, vegetable soup and fresh country-style bread, hot casseroles, and beef stew.

Hated Food: Takeout, ramen noodles, and microwave dishes, which is a shame, since that's all his father really has time to make nowadays.

School: Meadowview

Hobbies:

Harry Potter-- Jean-Luc's parents began their divorce at about the time that Harry Potter really came into vogue, and he threw himself into the fad wholeheartedly. Really wholeheartedly. He got the Gryffindor scarf, the quidditch goggles, the red and yellow beanie, all the merchandise, and he was just as enthusiastic about the books. He used Harry's world to take his mind off his problems at home, and even got into Wizard Rock, spending all night on Myspace listening to songs by Harry and the Potters, Ministry of Magic, and The Remus Lupins, among others. (His favourite band is Neville's Diary) Harry Potter became his escape and his obsession, and is one of his favourite things to this day.

Online Quizzes-- Jean-Luc is the kind of person who can spend four hours doing Facebook quizzes, mostly about what Hogwarts house he's in, what character he is, and so forth. He's definitely the type of person who needs other people to define him, and since he's too shy to really get to know other people, online quizzes are perfect for him, and he takes them all deadly seriously.

Indie Music-- Born from his love of Wizard Rock, Jean-Luc listens to about any indie band with a guitar, a dream, and a Myspace page. No matter how awful they sound, if they're really trying, Jean-Luc meets them halfway and his imagination makes them sound awesome. Partially because Jean-Luc is so desperate to be somebody, or at least be noticed by somebody, he feels especially protective of people who go out and do things like make a band on Myspace, especially if they don't really sound great, and he's willing to support them till the end of time. Jean-Luc is willing to be the only fan who shows up to the garage-band concert, even if it's three hours away by bus. Jean-Luc is willing to tell you that he has all your CDs and he's eagerly awaiting the next one no matter the fact that you've only sold one copy of each of your CDs, probably to him. Jean-Luc is that guy.

Virtues:

Meticulous-- Jean-Luc is meticulous, tidy, and rule abiding. When he chooses to do something, he's the type who reads the instructions first, and then follows them as precisely as possible, cleaning up any mess that may result afterwards. This is part of what makes him able to take care of Hedwig so well, the need to make sure that he does things as he's told to and to avoid things going wrong. The urge to follow the rules applies to everything he does, not just procedures and instructions. For instance, he really, really wants to be a Gryffindor with every fiber of his being, but every online sorting quiz he has ever taken has firmly placed him in Hufflepuff, but he's never, ever thought of cheating the quizzes, no matter how obvious the questions are. He is compelled to follow the rules and answer completely honestly.

Protective-- Jean-Luc will do the right thing, or at least give it the old college try. No matter how daunting the task or how unlikely Jean-Luc will succeed, if he has to somehow save someone from something, be it a missing homework assignment or a basilisk, by God, he will give it his all to vanquish the problem, because he is morally obligated to stop the bully who gave him repeated wedgies in the hallways from being killed by the Negaverse. If the roles were reversed, he'd want to be protected and helped, so he feels the urge to offer others the same help when he can. However, the obligation to protect people does not parlay into the ability to protect people, so protecting the wedgie-giving bully would probably result in a wild-eyed, knock-kneed Jean-Luc throwing his quidditch goggles at someone like Obsidian and hoping really hard that it somehow works.

Dependable-- Tying into his need to do the right thing and meticulousness, Jean-Luc is utterly dependable when it comes to his responsibilities to others. If he says he's going to do it, he does it. No matter what you need him for, he'll try to help you as best he can, and even if he doesn't enjoy a task, he'll spend time to put his best effort into it. If needed, he'll even push his own life aside to help you out of a messy situation, and he always puts others before himself. He's good for partner projects with people more intelligent than him, and easily settles into the role of lackey, even if he isn't necessarily pleased by the idea.

Supportive-- Jean-Luc believes in people

Flaws:

Shy-- Jean-Luc will look at you yearningly over his textbook, but he will not talk to you of his own volition. He is intensely afraid of rejection, being ridiculed, and abandonment, and when you wear Quidditch goggles daily and can recite a detailed biography of every character ever to appear in Harry Potter, Star Trek, and Dr. Who, all three are highly possible. Rather than take a risk, Jean-Luc's social strategies consist of watching people he wants to be friends with longingly and go home and think about her hair, it's just so pretty, and she laughed at a joke her friend said about the Jonas Brothers, it would melt your heart, it really would.

Needy-- Jean-Luc is high maintenance. If one of his friends is ignoring him for other people, he tends to get insecure about himself and his relationship with them, and attempt to win them back in any way possible. Though he doesn't get much attention, he needs all the people in his life to pay attention to him or his self esteem plummets and he stops caring as much about himself because that one person doesn't care about him as much anymore. However, because of his need for his friends, he puts up with a lot from them, no matter how hard they tease him or whether they ignore them for a long time, he will always come back to them just so long as they pay attention to him.

Paranoid-- Because people paying attention to him is such a big concern for him, he gets paranoid about what all his friends and family think about him and tends to find hidden meanings in their actions that aren't actually there. If a friend is talking to him less than usual, he must be hideously dull to them now and they must be trying to politely hint that they never want to talk to him again, right? Right? There can't be any other reason for it, it's his fault that they aren't paying enough attention to him, because he's not good enough anymore, and since he dropped the ball, he just lost his friend. On the same note, he's sensitive about teasing even if it's friendly, and though he puts up with it even if it's obviously unfriendly, he's constantly fretting about whether friendly teasing has a double meaning and whether his friend is just joking and still likes him or whether they actually mean it and they want him to go away. This leads to a lot of nervous laughter and repeated 'Really??'s that can get sort of grating.

Gullible-- Jean-Luc is easy to manipulate. He's not a strategist, and he tends to approach things in a straightforward sort of way, following the directions he's given even if they lead into the gaping maw of Hell. He's not clever, just methodical, and a little trickery will utterly confound him. Even at his most paranoid, he always blames himself for things, rather than other people, and it's not in his nature to suspect others of treachery. He would not only bring a mysterious wooden horse inside his city's gates, he would be writing a thank you letter from the heart in his room while enemy soldiers crept out to pillage the masses.

Physical Description: Slim, tall, and mousy!

Eyes: Brown

Hair: Dark red, short and messy.

Face: Freckly, pale face with a permanently hopeful look pasted on it.

Fashion: The only really consistent thing he wears are his quidditch goggles, usually pushed up over his eyes.

Questions

What's his relationship with his father? How does his father feel about his obsession with Harry Potter?

Jean-Luc and his father get along well. His father is a good-natured sort of man who is gruffly affectionate and indulgent towards his boy. He's as obsessed with Star Trek as his son is with Harry Potter though, so he doesn't really understand why Jean-Luc likes Harry Potter so much when there is Star Trek all around him. He does try to understand and get into what his son likes though, and he consoles him whenever Jean-Luc's online quizzes sort him into 'griffinclaw' (and promptly receives an "It's Gryffindor, dad."). As a note, Jean-Luc's father only calls him Jean-Luc when he's angry or talking to him about something serious. The rest of the time, his father addresses him as 'Tiberius'.

HI KOTA HI

FIRST OFF I LOVE HIS FIRST NAME. OF COURSE I DO. I LOVE CAPTAIN PICARD.

Secondly wizard rock yay loveee

I like how he is so dependent on other people's opinions. That's not a flaw you usually see. (He and Elke would get along).

HOBBIES
I approve. Even in the hobbies, it's clear that he is sort of... a kitten who knows he can't take down the tiger and still gives it a go. Hedwig comes a little bit out of nowhere--I picture him as more of a pet bird or a cat person, maybe explain if a plant was or wasn't his first choice??? Maybe he likes to have Hedwig with him at school??

PERSONALITY
We've got to save Ginny Weasley from the basilisk!/Weasley is our King--Where did Jean-Luc acquire these morals? From Harry Potter alone? Because the fact that he will save people from other things but dropped out of high school seems a little weird? Was it just like, he couldn't deal with teh stress of school but he could deal with helping other people because he could step away if he had to? Or does he feel that he can't step away? Is there ever a time when Jean-Luc is simply too tired or stressed with his own life to help other people?

You might also want to consider adding, like, the trait name itself in parentheses next to the song titles. That kind of threw me off a bit )':

CAVALIER
I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY I LOVE IT

I love Jean-Luc.

HI ZIGE HOW ARE YOU

HOBBIES
Well, he has allergies to pet dander, and he breaks out in a rash when he touches fur. Also, animals can run away or get run over or like someone else better than him, but Hedwig can never do that, so it's a better choice for him because it depends on him more and he's not allergic to it, not to mention caring for a plant is more formulaic than caring for an animal, and following instructions is really what he does best.

PERSONALITY
Jean-Luc is never too tired or stressed with his own life to help other people, because the problem with Jean-Luc is that he will drop things in his own life to help other people. He puts responsibilities to others above responsibilities to himself, so whereas he caves under the pressure of divorce and stops taking care of himself, his sense of guilt and longing to be a Gryffindor-style protector of others will always drive to to try to take care of others who he has a duty to take care of. It's easier for him to justify neglecting himself than to justify neglecting others.

EDIT: I'M SO LAME I OVERLOOKED A WHOLE QUESTION HERE. Jean-Luc got these morals from both the expectations that his namesakes, Jean-Luc and James, evoke, and Harry Potter. He grew up being told that he was named after figures like Picard and Kirk, who tend to be heroic/self sacrificing, and though he doesn't like the names, he was raised to be painfully aware of them and the expectations thrust upon him when his father chose those names. He grew up in a household that tended to watch classic sci-fi/fantasies like Star Trek/Star Wars/Labyrinth, shows where the heroes are those who overcome insurmountable odds and Do the Right Thing. He was raised in that environment, and that's how he tends to react to situations, even if he doesn't have that same special something that those heroes did that helped them overcome their problems. He tries, he really does.

JEAN-LUC LOVES YOU FROM BEHIND THE PRIZONER OF AZKABAN CHAPTER FOUR THREE TABLES AWAY IN THE LUNCHROOM.

I'm still not fully recovered, so don't laugh at me when I stop making sense.

What's his mother like? How did she feel about having a son named after sci-fi heroes?

Where did Hedwig come from? Why didn't Hedwig nearly die or something when he was a delinquent? He seems to have gotten sloppy and lazy and overwhelmed. Why didn't that translate into poor care of his plant?

Also, how does Jean-Luc feel about Star Trek? You said he gets some of his morals from his namesakes, but he's not proud of his name, right? Was he more into it when he was young and his father told him tales of how he was named after great heroic men and should be proud of the legacy he has inherited? He must have had some fondness or pride for Star Trek or his names at some point to get morals from it.

His virtues and flaws seem pretty consistent with everything, which is good. I'm looking for a mention of how Hufflepuffy he is despite wanting to be Gryffindor and buying all the merchandise and trying to feel brave and badass. It's obvious, but where's the "refuses to accept undesired truths about who he really is" or something flaw?
