Cat bustled diligently around his classroom, busily putting anything that could easily catch fire behind his desk, which had a few good-sized glasses of water perched on them. An observer might have seen this as a lack of faith in his student, who had a gift for lightning manipulation, but in actuality it was a lack of faith in himself. Cat had never really been exposed to this type of magic, and although he'd read about it and theoretically could teach it, it was nonetheless nerve-wracking. Lightning was one of the most volatile types of magic, after all, and it always paid to be careful.

Standing up, he stretched his wings with a loud POP!, looking around his room with a slightly despairing sigh. Gah, still so much to do... For once, he hoped that his student was going to be late...

Like most of his trips to the Labs Ciaran always walked around within the shadows as he was very confortable in them and he also didn't want to have the techs know that he was here. But today he did refrain from giveing any of them shocks when they got close to him as he didn't want to waste it as he was also excited to go to class and learn more about his magic.

Opening the door to the class, but still wraped in the shadows but a litte more visable as the strenght of the shadows weren't all that great. But once inside the class room he droped out of the shadow and looked nervous. He saw the teacher and was alittle less nervous now as when had gotten a letter to see it wasn't his old teacher he didn't know if it would be a male or female teacher from just the name.

He walked towards the front of the classroom towards the teacher with his tail waging behind him nervously. "Hi, I'm Ciaran," he offered as he gave a weak smile as he didn't know what to think of the teacher yet as Ciaran was always nervous around other he didn't know.

Cat jumped about half a foot in the air when he heard Ciaran's quiet greeting, his wings flapping and propelling him up even higher. He hadn't seen the boy come in, not to mention seen him. Landing, he quickly shoved a few papers into his desk before turning around to face the Envy boy with an obviously-nervous smile on his face. God, he couldn't bear to even imagine how unprofessional he looked right now...

Running a hand through his hair distractedly, he grinned at Ciaran. "Yes. Hello there, Ciaran. Um, s-sorry for the mess," he apologized with a wave of his hand, wings flapping once again. "It's been, ah, a hectic kind of day..." Okay, so that was the tiniest bit of a white lie, but in Cat's mind, it was better that than letting his new student know that he wasn't completely confident in his teaching abilities. If high schoolers had taught him anything, it was never lose your cool. Ever.

"Oh, I'm Cat, by the way. Your, um, new teacher, if that wasn't obvious..." So much for keeping his cool. Laughing nervously, he turned and rummaged for Ciaran's file, pointlessly double-checking what he already knew. "So, you've got lightening magic, I see. Cool. That's cool," he said as he turned back to the teenager with a more relaxed smile. "Um, so it'd probably work best if you first just show me what you can do. That way I can see what you already know, and we don't waste time." After looking around for a specific target, the Eilian merely gestured to the floor. "That works. Don't worry about any scorch marks or anything."

"Its ok, things happen," he replied as he knew others could be busy and not get things done like they wanted. It was something Ciaran was familar with as Sokan would do the same thing everynow and then when he got wraped up in his books.

"Its nice to meet you, Cat," he replied as he spoted Cat's wings and thought they were beautiful and looked so very soft, but these thoughts he kept to him self as he was starting to like Cat. "Well its cool, but not when it backlashes," he replied with a smile, but didn't care to much if it hurt him but worried if it hurt others. "Ok, I can do that," he said as he looked to make sure he wasn't to near Cat as he gathered his magic around his hand and pointed to the ground indicated and let the lighting arc to that spot leaveing a large scorch mark in its wake.

Cat took a small step back as the dark-skinned young man demonstrated his talent, tail flicking in appreciation as he whistled low. "Wow, that was well done, Ciaran. Very nice." He smiled gently at his student, taking a surreptitious glance at a book that just happened to be opened to lightening magic as he walked closer, inspecting the scorch mark and trying to mentally calculate how hard it would be to clean. He also to this time to try and figure out what he could possibly teach this boy. He obviously already knew his talent and had decent control of it, so where did that leave him?

An off-hand comment that Ciaran had said drifted back to the surface of his mind, and he smiled with a little self-congratulation as he turned back to his student. "Well, Ciaran, since you obviously have basic control of your talent down, I think I'll take a go at-" here he paused and glanced over his shoulder at his book to once again to make sure that what he thought was physically possible- "-at teaching you how to redirect lightening. Y'know, if it does rebound at you, you can just send it back. It's kind of hard, but I'm sure we'll get the hang of it." He clapped a hand on Ciaran's shoulder. "Sound good to you?"

It was just a small bolt that he just used as he knew if he used a larger one it would have sent a backlash back to him. So he was just takeing it carefully as he didn't want to hurt anyone with his magic. He also blushed a little as it would seam that his magic for now was behaveing and listened to what Cat was saying.

"Well I have a little basic control, but it just seams to behaveing to day or if I use it smaller doses. It tends to backfire once I start to use it in larger arcs or if I get suprized it just seams to have a mind of its own somedays," he said as fiddled with his torue. But hearing that is was possable to resend the lighting back from him, he had gotten a little excited. His tail feather flared for a second as he was suprized at Cat clapping his hand on Ciarans shoulder. "Yes it does sound good to me," he said excitedly as he wanted so somewhat lesson the shocks he gave himself.

Cat smiled at Ciaran's excitement at his idea, something he himself was rather proud for thinking up, considering he hadn't been sure that it was possible. Perhaps this 'winging it' thing wasn't so hard after all! Walking back towards his desk, he flapped his wings lightly, turning the pages of his cheat sheet book and glancing at them as quickly as he can before turning back around to face his dark-skinned student, a nervous smile on his face. Being a fast reader certainly had its benefits.

"Alright. So, this'll be a little dangerous to practice, since it requires you to use bigger bits of lightening than you're able to control, but I'm confident it won't take too long," he replied with a kind grin at Ciaran. "Now, redirecting lightening is all about timing, which is also what makes it really hard. When it rebounds, you have to use your magical energy to absorb it, and you only have a split-second window to do so. In fact, let's just practice that right now," he added as a small after-thought.

Straightening up a little, he gnawed at his lip before smiling with mostly-fake confidence and held up his hand like he was going to catch a baseball. "It usually works better if you hold your hand like this. If you treat like something anyone could catch," he tried to add helpfully. He really really hoped that this wouldn't backfire and cause something terrible to happen. Like death. "When you catch it, you can use your energy to disappate it." His tail flicked nervously. Oh Jesus...

Ciaran got nervous when he heard that it would become dangrous, but he would do anything to at least have the backlash hit him as often and not hit friends at all, when he worked his magic. He listened very carefully to the instructions that Cat was giving him and even an example of what he could do. "Ok I will try and do that," he said. Gathering up his courage to use the amount asked to use and constrated on arcing that much power and released it towards one of the wall.

Once magic was far enough away from Ciaran some of it started to arc back towards Ciaran and Cat. Doing what he was told and got in the possiotion of attempling to catch it. Well in that spit second he did catch it comming back but was a little slow on disappateing it as some of it shocked Ciaran as the rest of it was disipated as much as he could and standing still to have the effects of the magic to run it course before moving around.

As much as lightening magic scared the living bajeezus out of him, Cat did find it very pretty to watch being used. As his wide eyes followed the arc of electricity through the air, it was almost pretty enough to make him forget how dangerous it was. Almost.

All of his bravado went down the drain when the lightening came ricocheting back towards him and Ciaran. With a very girly squeak, Cat flinched, wings growing excited and throwing him into the air. Thankfully, this time he didn't hit the ceiling, and he smiled ruefully as he floated back down to earth, trying to look like no, he didn't just do that, what are you talking about? "C-Close. That was close. You got rid of it well enough, just do it a little faster. But that was still good," he said with a smile as he landed nimbly on his chair, stepping down lightly with an embarrassed smile on his face. "Do you want to try that again, or move on?"

Pumping his hands to get the effects of his magic to disapate to were it would stop tingleing, but he did have to smile to himself when he heard the squeak comming from Cat and he figured out that his teacher didn't like lighting magic all that much and Ciaran couldn't falt him as it was dangrous but Ciaran had never been scared of it. "True, but a little practice wouldn't fix that. I just didn't know what to expect," he said as he would practice this again without others around. "Could we move on, I have the basics as I can practice on my own," he answered as he could go to Sokan if he needed help.

Cat tried to disguise his blust as his student smiled knowingly at him, embarrassed to have allowed his fears to make him act so unprofessionally. He busied himself with picking up the papers that had been blown astray by his powerful wings, nodding in agreement with his student. "That makes sense."

Once his things were gathered and quickly dumped on his desk, Cat turned back to Ciaran with a nod. "Understandable." Okay, so once you can, ah," he faltered, trying to find the right word. "Paralyze, paralyze the lightening, you need to, oh, how to explain... So electricity has a charge, right, either positive or negative. And when you catch your lightening, if you try to add more power to it, it will fly back off, since like charges repel. So you need to try and add power to the lightening, but just enough so it repels. Make sense?" he asked hopefully. God knows that it only barely made sense to him.

Ciaran nodded as he wasn't going to say any more on what he had seen and keep it to himself as he had fears of his own and didn't like them one bit, as he did like Cat as he was an intersting and fun teacher and for the fact that he had cool looking wings also was also a very big plus in his books.

Listening intently to what Cat was telling him that got him thinking as he didn't think of any of this. "So to get what you are getting at it would sorta be like a magent, but with my magic and make sure that both of the charges of magic alike for them to repel each other," he asked just to make sure he understood as he knew how to keep some of the lighting around one of his hands.

Cat's smile could have powered New York City with its brightness at his student's reply. "Yes, that's exactly what it's like! Nice!" His wings began flapping excitedly, causing Cat to pause in his gushing to calm himself down. God knows he didn't need to embarrass himself in front of Ciaran twice in so many minutes.

Once he was sufficiently calmed, he looked at the other with an eager twinkle in his eye. "So, you wanna try it out?"

Ciaran smiled as he had given a right answer to his teacher and was proud of himself for even knowing to give for a right answer as his tail wagged behind him in his excitement.

"Yes I do," he answered as it would help him so much with his magic as now he had a way he could potentially protect himself from it when it back fired and he was ready to work very hard to have that protection.

"Alrighty, then..." Cat said, making a circular motion with his hand, "Go ahead and give it a whirl. A-And remember, just enough to push the two bolts apart. If you use too much... Well, I'm not sure what will happen, but it'll probably be bad," he finished with an uneasy grin. He didn't want to give Ciaran the idea that he wasn't confident in him, though, so he refrained from moving behind his desk, much as he longed to. "Alright, Ciaran, go ahead."
