Cirque de la Lune was rather well known locally for the constant charity events and drives they ran. The whole place was mostly based off of things like that, going so far as to do things like train and employ those who were out of work and in need of shelter. So it was no surprise that there was a charity toy drive set up near the grounds, run by a few of it's members.
Seated behind one of the tables was a young boy with minty green hair, wearing little more than a black body suit, gloves, boots and a scarf. Compared to the other volunteers who were bundled up tightly for the weather, Shylock looked pretty bare, which was how he liked it. Were it not so cold, and were he not in public, he probably would be.
Needing to get out of the house and feeling helpful, the boy had asked if there was anything that needed doing at the drive. One of the ladies was asking to make sure that a ledger was kept of what was donated and its condition, so Shy was doing that, making notes so they knew how many of what things they had. It was a very organized and complicated task at times, but things were set up pretty well so it was mostly mindless writing, hence why the woman didn't want to do it herself.

Anthony had known of the toy drive for years, and each year he had made a single donation. It wasn't that his funds didn't allow for more, but he simply lacked the holiday spirit most times. After all, who did he have to spend the season with?
Now, however, he had Europa. Upon hearing of the drive, the child grew incredibly excited and went perhaps a little overboard with the purchases. She would see something she thought a little girl might like, and then run off and hold aloft a battery-operated truck and ask Daddy if she could please get this one too, because what if there was a boy who didn't get any presents? All in all, they had bought 3 oversized teddy bears (one brown, one white, and one pale blue), 2 remote-control cars (a monster truck and a Mercedes), and 6 Barbies of various theme. Anthony was proud of his giving little girl.
They arrived amidst a crowd and waited their turn in line before reaching the front table, at which time Europa squealed and laughed.
"Shy! I knew I'd see you again!" she chirped over the multitude of boxes in her arms. She felt enormous with him sitting down, and she wondered if perhaps she was taller than him standing. That would be funny.

The boy looked up and smiled brightly. "Hello again, Eurie." he said cheerily, smiling even more at the boxes she held. "Brought some donations?"
The boy marked down on the ledger what was given while one of the volunteers sorted the objects into their proper donation bins. "That's a lot of stuff. Thank you very much." he told the two, scribbling down the condition of the objects and where they belonged as noted by the person as they put them away.
"You've really gotten tall since I last saw you. How was your autumn?"

Europa gave a soft laugh and shrugged.
"It was okay! Really cold, though, huh? That wasn't all that great. Hey, do you guys need any help?" The girl was somehow in a brilliantly Christmas spirit. She had insisted they buy a tree, and she and Anthony had stayed up late last night decorating it with whatever they could find or make. It was lifting her father's spirits to see this in her.

"You could help me make lists of the things people donate?" Shy suggested. "I've gotta mark down everything donated, what condition it's in, where we put it, and how many were donated."

"Ummm...okay," Europa shrugged. She had been thinking more along the lines of wrapping, but she would do whatever she could to help! Anthony just smiled and shook his head.
"I'm going home, darling. Call me when you need to be picked-up."
"Alright!" With that being said, she shuffled behind the table with Shylock.
"Do you do this every year?"

"Well have to do stuff like wrap them later but for now they wanna make sure things are sorted." Shy explained, "It's boring work but they want to be organized."
He thought a bit, "Dunno. Haven't lived more than a year yet. I suppose if I live here more years I might."

"Oh, pssh, right," Europa smiled, taking a paper and pen for herself, "I forget sometimes. Some people grow like...people. Some people grow like us. It gets all mixed up."
She was, however, excited at the notion of being able to wrap presents later. She could practice for Daddy's presents, and then they wouldn't look ugly under the new tree.

The dark skinned child nodded, "Yeah, its weird going from being a little one that everyone needs to take care of to the eldest and responsible child of the family in just a couple of months." he commented, filling in one page while Eurie filled in the other.
Soon enough the drive was able to break for the day, so these presents could be wrapped and sent where they needed to go and tallies of things could be made. A short man with big blue eyes grinned at the two.
"Have either of you ever wrapped things before?" he offered, holding up a big roll of paper. "I can show you how if you want to keep helping."

"I like being bigger," the girl replied simply.
When the time came, Europa wanted very badly to say that, yes, she was a present-wrapping afficianado, but lying wouldn't get her anywhere in this situation. She shook her head, brows furrowing.
"No, sir, but I'd like to!"

"That's okay!" he assured them brightly, "It won't take us long to get you used to it." he assured her, taking the two over to a large box and carefully showing them how to measure out and wrap the paper.
Soon enough the pair had their own piles of boxes to work with and masses of tape and paper to use and practice on. It was hard work but so very worth it.

Europa worked a bit slowly, smoothing out any creases and wrinkled she made by accident, making sure everything was tight and neat. She would like getting clean presents herself, so she figured other kids would too!
"So, who are these kids? The ones the presents are for, I mean," she said, taping down a flap, "My dad told me they're 'less fortunate', but that could mean a lotta things."

Shy smiled, he already knew this one, "The different toy drive days are for different events. Today's is for orphans. The places that're being donated to don't get as much government funding so their money has to go to keeping the kids fed and keeping the building fixed, so they can't really afford gifts for them."
"Yesterday we were doing a drive for kids who're in the hospital." he added with a nod - it wasn't a very good explanation of the previous day's activities but he hadn't been down here helping then, as Nero was a bit sick.
