So not only has GM sold the HUMMER brand and distribution network to the Chinese, they are now selling SAAB powertrains and technology to them too! It makes me sad that we're giving the Chinese such so many "ins" to the US market with brands, outlets, and now drivetrains and tech. That means when the Chinese come in and sell their wares for dirt cheap, the average, ignorant, and selfish American will buy it just to save a few bucks... just like how they buy Korean (and Japanese) crap now. Who cares about keeping your home's economy up and making sure that fellow Americans have a job, right?

And, so it doesn't matter that residents of the over-populated China get job opportunities now right? And, it also doesn't matter that Saab was not originally "American" in the first place, right? Who cares about keeping Sweden's home economy up and making sure that fellow Swedish people have a job, right? Go America!

All that doesn't change the fact that once the Chinese come in for more competition, and lazy selfish Americans continue to only look out for themselves, our economy and unemployment rate will get even worse. What American people are so ******** dense about is that if you keep only looking out for yourself, your society will continue to decline... which ends up with you actually suffering more also. It's a vicious cycle that most aren't enlightened enough to get out of.

What's wrong with competition? Competition brings prices down and quality up as all companies compete for customers. That's the simple nature of business.

I've just thought of something else, I remember that Koenigsegg supposedly was going to buy Saab from GM. That would of been pretty cool, unfortunately for Saab the deal was terminated. Just found something interesting, seems like Spyker is trying again to buy Saab from GM. However, it looks like GM is being a hard-a**, just like they were with Koenigsegg. At any rate, if Saab goes to the Chinese (which in your mind seems to be the "end of the world"), it's GMs fault and no one elses. Link to Spyker & GM deal here.

^^^^^ I remember hearing about that on NPR radio a few days ago.
Why couldn't they have gotten rid of Saab a long time ago and decided just to keep Pontiac? Is it because Saab isn't actually American like Pontiac is/was so they couldn't necessarily dictate if they wanted to give it the axe or not?
I hardly see any Saabs and I'm not quite turned on by any of their vehicles so I don't think they'll be missed very much if they are lost. I rather have a Volvo, which seems like a Ford equivalent to Saab, but better.
And eliminating competition only leads monopolies which may seem good at first because it lowers prices, but once all the competition is gone, they sky rocket, creating a worse situation. Vertical and Horizontal integration can have a detrimental effect on business and economy and the only people it benefits are those who own the businesses.

I believe that it is because of the "foreign" thing going on with Saab being Swedish that is keeping GM from terminating Saab like they did with Pontiac and Saturn. Saab has a small but intensely loyal group of customers. Plus, I have a certain respect for Saab. If I'm not mistaken, they were the first to produce a car that had a drag co-effiency of .30.

You know, what I said about Saab was very disrespectful, and I did some looking in to some of their cars, and the 9-3 Aero Sport Sedan looks some what interesting. The interior is still kinda drab in my opinion, but it looks like no other vehicle on the road and it has its own identity in a way, and Saab likes turbochargers! biggrin
So I take back the disrespectful and downgrading opinions I had about Saab.

Saab's last performance 'hoorah' and proof that they did make things that can sometimes be exciting sometimes.

The car looks good, but is it jut me, or is 280hp and 295 lb-ft of torque a little on the low level for a turbo charged V6?

It is most certainly not if you're living in the early 1990s. Which we are not. So yes.

I think the new milestone for NA performance oriented V6's alone is 300hp, so for a turbocharged V6 to get only 280 is kind of a heart breaker. You would think it should be on the same level/realm as the Taurus SHO.

Not necessarily, considering it's a few years old now. Plus, it's a goddamned Saab, people. What more do you want from it? Ten years from now, all of the Turbo Xs will have fallen victim to the same fate any other Saab has since they were first conceived by man. They will be owned by middle-aged men, mostly geography teachers, orchestral conductors, mathematicians, poets... Weird people.

That Turbo X will have the potential to turn into a crazy beast. I just know it.

Think so?

I mean, I suppose it'd be interesting to see one that's fast. It's a small turbo AWD sport sedan, a lot like this:

But maybe... Just maybe the Saab has the potential to be faster? It's got six cylinders.
