This, my friends, is a fanfiction. Be forewarned for it contains an OC (original character) so if you dislike, no read. Easy as pie, yes? So before you even finish this sorry excuse of an introduction, leave the post and mind your own beeswax.

Story: One-shot

Main pairing: Onesided SeverusxOC

Side pairing/s: Onesided SeverusxLily, JamesxLily, implied RemusxSirius

Settings: Marauder Era, Hogwarts, Last day of school

Author: Asher Gaith

Lyrics: So Close by Jon McLaughlin from Enchanted.

-----------

It was the last day of school and students were esctatic. The headmaster announced that there will be a ball for the seventh years on the last day of term so that they could cool off and relax from the pressure of the final exams, and to loosen up about the issue concerning the Dark Lord. It will only be for the seventh years unless they have a date in the lower years.

With that planned, the seventh years worked and studied thoroughly, something the professors were proud of.

In the Gryffindor girl's dormitory, the girls fret over their hair and make-up. Terra sat in front of the vanity, and the current victim of Lily Evans.

"I can't believe it!" exclaimed Lily while swishing her wand here and there. "You two had been together for HOW LONG!?"

"Oh drop it, Lily," interrupted Mary McDonaldwhile applying the finishing touches on her dress. "She likes him, he seemed to tolerate her. Get over it!" An irritated vein started to appear on her temple. Lily's doubtful exclamations had been going on for the last three hours since they were about to prepare for the ball.

Lily huffed in annoyance but her eyes softened, murmuring softly, "I was just worried..."

Terra smiled and her emerald eyes brighter than Lily's gazed at Lily's own green orbs through the mirror. "I'll be fine, Lily." Lily just nodded and smiled back.

And the main event is approaching. The girls all waited for their respective dates to escort them down to the Great Hall. With Terra's date, though, they decided to meet in the Entrance Hall.

Just as she reached the place, Severus Snape was already heading towards her direction with that sneer on his face, softer one at that, and offered his hand to her, like the true gentleman he was.

"Ready?"

The fair haired girl smiled and took his hand, replying a soft "Yes."

The Great Hall was decorated differently. It was themed spring and vines crawled up the walls. Trees stood in corners and spring fairies flew everywhere in the vicinity. And instead of candles floating above their heads, they were will-o'-the-wisp gently falling from the ceiling. The long tables for each houses were replaced with big circular tables.

The odd couple took off to find seats, finding them near the dance floor. Severus pulled out the chair for Terra to sit who thanked him softly.

The night went on normally for them until Severus caught sight of Lily.

There she was in all her glory, with her arm around James'. They were laughing of what Sirius was talking about as Remus grew red at each passing moments.

Terra looked back at Severus to see him gritting his teeth while clutching the table's cloth. Frowning, she followed his gaze again. James and Lily were moving to the dance floor.

Almost the entire night, Severus' focus was on Lily, leaving Terra silent and quiet, looking down at her hands on her lap.

You're in my arms
And all the world is calm

Severus noticed his date's silence and asked, "Would you like to dance?"

That seemed to do it when Terra's eyes twinkled and smiled, taking Severus' offered hand once more. Gliding to the dance floor, they took a spot and danced.

This was absolute paradise for Terra when they talked of random things, twirling her sometimes and making her laugh. Severus also shared his laugh with her.

But they suddenly danced near where Lily and James were, and Severus immediately quieted down, staring at the redhead.

How could I face the faceless days
If I should lose you now?

With her heart cracking, she laid her head on Severus' chest. Severus' head snapped to her and his eyes shone confusion.

She knew she'll never have him. Nor earn his attention like how he give it to Lily unconditionally. She'll never be able to replace that hole in his heart where Lily resided. She knew that, and yet, she still had to try. And she guessed that this will be her last chance.

Standing on her tippy toes, she sang the last lines of the song and kissed Severus on the lips. It was an innocent and hopeful kiss, but he was in too much shock to register it. She imagined his shocked and confused face, letting some stray tears run down her cheeks.

Terra pulled away and looked up at Severus with teary emerald eyes, smiling a sad smile. Just then, the lights shut off, their signal that the event was over, for dramatic effects in the headmaster's words. He felt her shoved something in his hands and disappeared.

Terra immediately took off to the common room while trying to keep her tears from falling.

Severus stood still there as his shock subsided and his rational mind took over. He stared at where Terra was supposed to be standing with the will-o'-the-wisps as his light. Looking down at his hand, he found a teardrop-shaped emerald necklace.

So close
And still so far

It's very good, Asher! Oh, you put well the emotions in the words properly. You describe the emotions and thoughts of the person very well. Though you must practice in describing the place a little more.

But the emotions... Oh, so touching! And by the way, I love stories with last lines like that.

Yeah, epic fail in describing the Great Hall. XD But then again, it's just a one shot.

Ahehehe... I tell you, Tora, Asher's got talent in these things. I like her writing style as I like Tiger-senpai (Another epic writer)...

Oh! I want to make a fan fiction too that is inspired in a song... Hmmm... But I haven't started at Bella and Voldie yet... crying
