Now that we have some moderators in the guild, I'm sure many of you have questions, and a lot of them are probably similar questions. I was thinking this could be a thread where you could ask them here, and hopefully if the mods have spare time they can answer them. ^^'

Try not to ask questions like 'when am I going to get my pass back?'. They really have no idea, but I'm sure they feel for us and joined because they would like to get some more accurate information to us. 3nodding

Thank you guys for taking time out of Modmas to help our members - I already got my pass back, but I know how frustrating it is to be completely in the dark and I hope we can alleviate some of that tension by communicating.

I don't mind answering what I can, if only to clear up some misconceptions. Can't promise anything, but shoot.

Just a note, I don't deal with trading pass investigations at all, so I can only answer what I can. But unless you're asking specifics of a case I should be able to give some sort of answer.

The first thing I want to know is, is it true they're moving trading pass disabled threads to the Chatterbox? If so, would you permit it if we kept all our suggestions in one thread as opposed to made all our own?

The first thing I want to know is, is it true they're moving trading pass disabled threads to the Chatterbox? If so, would you permit it if we kept all our suggestions in one thread as opposed to made all our own?

Threads being moved: Yes and no. The rumour is they're being moved because we want to censor everyone, but that's not true. If it were, they'd be no threads about the issue whatsoever.

Site Feedback is, and always, about Feedback. Meaning to have a thread it must be offering feedback about the site, an item/feature or process.

Threads which aren't feedback (and are either a rant, or a demand for the passes to be returned) are being removed. Rants belong in journals, while demands for anything to do with an account (eg: being unbanned etc...) don't belong in the SF. Gotta be Feedback to go in the SF forum.

If anyone is unsure why a thread was removed, they're free to ask any one of us assigned to the forum.

Multiple threads: I would suggest people all have one feedback thread about the issue, as one freaking huge thread (that offers feedback and doesn't turn to spam as sadly a lot of large threads do) makes a bigger impact than several small threads. Same with petitions, one large petition makes a bigger impact than 10 small ones.

Just a note about petitions, please don't petition for your pass to return as they don't belong. If you're unsure what does and doesn't belong in Petitions you can poke me, since I know that forum very well.

Why does it take so long for a trading pass to be returned?
PostPosted: Sun Dec 13, 2009 7:41 pm

Gaia's huge, especially compared the the number of staff. Most cases shouldn't take too long, the cases that take years + are the exception, not the rule (and if it has really been that long, poke someone as it may have been lost. It happens) That's really not something I can answer as I don't deal with them.

Can you tell me who deals with anything? You guys make this so much more difficult than it really is. It could be solved with a group of people appointed to one job, and continue as such, but let's scramble and hope for the best. I thought Moderators were supposed to help the user, if he/she misplaced something or is lost in the dark you're supposed to give them a bump in the right direction, not just completely ignore them. I've had my own experience with getting my trading pass disabled, many times in fact. A majority or you are quite rude, and that is NOT completely false or bull.

So, please tell me since I've been waiting 2+ years for an account of mine to become re-enabled.

Edit: and every 3-4 months I check up on the case and get no response whatsoever.

Moderators are here to moderate Gaia, we're not the Q&A, we're not the help centre and we're not here to be abused. With trading passes we really can only give you a general disable reason, note it if it needs noting, and that's it.

Eventually if a user is spamming inboxes, they will be ignored. Mass-pming, or spamming a single person is a great way to disrupt, and it's a great way to be ignored. There's only so much we can say that it becomes redundant. When you PM us, we normally record it as some people like to jump to another moderator as soon as they've got a reply from the first.

If you've been waiting 2 years for an account, you can PM me and I can take a peek, but I make no promises about results.

I can't tell you who works on them sorry, because that'll just mean they're spammed (more than they already are).

EDIT: I can't spell Moderator apparently >.>

~*yay 4laugh thanks for taking time to answer our questions ^_^ *~

- how true is it that cases can sometimes be forgotten if it takes too long?
- are permanent trading pass bans real? *~
PostPosted: Sun Dec 13, 2009 10:53 pm

I wish I could say that's never happened, but I'd be lying. The people working on these are (shock horror) human, and sometimes stuff can get lost in the mess of things for all sorts of reason. (It's not just them, and it's not just with trade disables. I've been swamped with work and had work I was doing on a cyber ring (oh so much fun) drop from view for a while).

That's why if it's been an insane amount of time (I'm not talking a few months, I'm talking about when months become years) then something is probably wrong and it's time to be poking.

Permanent disables aren't real. They just seem that way due to how long it takes some cases (which does suck).

1. Who is it that checks the system flags (if the system still exists that is) to see if it needs investigation?
2. Who bothers to check if the item was botted/hacked/scammed/brought with cash through 3rd party site?
3. Do they already know the person is guilty of this and attach auto trade-bans to the items; so that way the item doesn't move yet again...?
4. How do they know it was botted/scammed or brought with 3rd party sites? (as hacking would probably leave a lot more evidence).
5. How can they be certain it wasn't just an auto-refresher plug-in and not an actual botting program?
6. If you assume everything is legit without evidence... who finds the evidence?
7. Why is there only one person actually dealing with the cases once the trade-ban is put in effect?
8. Who gets final say on whether or not a trade-ban should be placed?

Can't they just freeze the gold or the item that is rumoured or suspected of being "tainted", a mod told me that they usually do, but I have no idea why it hasn't been done in most of the cass that I know of.

3: Guilt isn't automatically known or even assumed. If we assumed everyone was guilty, they'd be banned as if you're guilty of a violation like that it is a perma-ban offense. Instead trading is frozen until the account can be checked out.

5: Auto-refresher plugins are absolutely botting, and will be treated as such. It doesn't matter if you're sitting at the computer while botting (I've had people complain it's not botting if you're within 2 feet of the computer... and yeah no), it's botting.

7: There isn't. Each case is different, and there are some different groups handling the different types of cases.

The rest I can't answer as they're all who's (I'm not giving out names or indicating people as that'll mean they're just swamped with PMs) or asking for private process (I cannot tell you anything about how the system works as that'll mean it's easier for people to work around it).

Just a note, you're working under the assumption we a) know immediately who's guilty before anything is looked into, and b) trading passes are supposed to be punishing those people. Neither is correct.

Trading passes are frozen because the account needs to be frozen while looked into. We don't have the time or resources to immediately investigate everyone as soon as it's disabled, as quite a large number can be disabled in a group for the same incident.
If each was fully investigated the moment of disable, without disabling, it'd never end. Accounts would be added to the list as each would be trading with each other, and it means even more wasted time and resources go in. Passes are frozen so that only a small group of accounts need looking at, rather than an infinitely growing group as each user trades/gifts.

It's not supposed to be permanent or a punishment.

We don't have that ability, to freeze only a certain amount of gold or specific items (not successfully at least). It's all or nothing really.

It'd be easier if it could be, (if it was known of course, and it isn't always) but we can only work with the tools we're given (and that work). This is Gaia, and you know how Gaia borks sometimes.
