Before I post up my artwork, I would like to intruduce myself. My name is Nexaku Kurayami, age 17, senior in High school. Since I am a senior, I have to start taking college into serious consideration. A couple of my career choices are to either become a graphics designer, or to be a game designer (As in the concept art). Now, without further ado, this is my anthro artwork, Nexaku. I know the proportions are off a bit, but what do you guys think?

Nice to meet you. Before I proceed to critique, I'm curious, are you planning on going to an art college?

I'm not an anthro artist by any means, but I think I know a thing or two about general anatomy. His tail is wrapped in such a ridiculously odd way near his body. A tail, especially the very base of it, has bone in it, and it shouldn't be able to bend at that angle. It can loosely bend, but bending it at that degree would actually hurt. His latissimus dorsi, a major back muscle below the shoulder blades, is barely visible, while it should be on a more muscular character.

I feel the shoulders should be placed slightly higher up; where it's currently attached, it feels too low.

When drawing the side view, be especially mindful of the subtle curves the upper torso has. Avoid straight lines when constructing the body; start off with a broad sweep of the form (action line), which should be to some degree curved. For example, the lower part of his torso (below his pecs) looks like a really straight cylinder. The body has a lot more curves than that. I can't really explain with words, but look up some anatomical references of a side view to see what I mean.

For coloring, it might work better for you if you try to render out the fur. Avoid using the soft brush + a darker shade of that color/gray/black. It makes the character look plastic and squishy. Also for highlights, avoid using pure white. Once again, it makes it look plastic and squishy.

Hope it all helps.
