Something I've noticed (in real life, not really in the guild) is that there are a lot of people who are quick to make any jokes they can about other religions, and yet they have absolutely no sense of humor about their own. Personally, this kind of annoys me, but it got me thinking about when it's okay to make jokes about others' religions. Is it okay just so long as you make fun of your own, as well? Is it okay just so long as you're doing it lightheartedly and not to be mean? Just wanted to know what your opinions on this subject are.

I'd say it's insensitivity and insecurity. This goes for race too, people either feel above others and have a right to make jest of their beliefs/culture but it's out of line when reciprocated.

Usually when I hear people make jokes about other religions, they come from a place of complete ignorance.
They're usually in bad taste. But sometimes really funny... Hamlet2 anyone?

haha, I make jokes about other peoples religions all the time. I do it with my own too though.
I'm one of those people who would go up to a Muslim friend and tell them to have a happy month of starvation but only if they were the type to tell me to enjoy my jolly gift bringing fat man.
I use to be a fan of political correctness but it started to give me wrinkles so I gave up on it, for the most part.

it depends on the spirit in which it is done.
rough kidding can be disguised aggression; it's just plain mean.
but gentle kidding can actually be kind of affectionate.

I've heard an Atheist joke that involves them going to Heaven, but I think it's more a crack at Christianity...
