Erebus trotted ahead of her and moved the bushes out of the way. He waited until Sara was only a foot behind him before disappearing into an alcove in the side of what appeared to be another oak tree. Erebus climbed down through a small hole and came out to a whole other part of the isle after crawling through the small space for about five feet. "Here's the swimming spot, isn't it beautiful?" he sighed and ran to jump into the cool, clear blue waters.

Sara followed lazily after him. Once she managed to dig the rest of the way out, the sight that met her eyes was breath taking. She was surprised of the look he gave this place. He had such a respect for its beauty, she couldn't help but to love it as well. "It is something," she agreed and strode to the edge of the lake. "How did you find this place?" Sara stared at the old ruins that were wrapped in vines that had creamy orange colored flowers blooming everywhere upon each. The sun shone down with a warming heat that was just right, even if it was winter already, it didn't look like any of the snow or cold had touched this place. Trees of all kinds stood tall and proud, reaching beyond the skies. Her eyes rose to stare into the sky and she wondered if they were trying to make up for exiling her. Sara shook her head. They couldn't possibly be kind to her, they viewed her as a monster. "Erebus, you are amazing my love."

Erebus came to the surface and grinned, spurting a line of water at her, "It was luck I guess. I got stuck in the hole and couldn't back out, so I continued on," he turned onto his back and swam. Staring up at the sun, he silently chuckled to himself. Lately he'd been having quite a bit of good luck in his life, he counted her as being the reason for it all. "You'll be freaked when you find out how to get out of here. We have to wait until the moons out. It's a little corny, but the moon's rays actually show the way. I've tried to get out of here before during the day, but there isn't a way back. And the entrance disappears." Erebus smirked at the thought of being trapped with her the rest of the day. It was already close to being night, since they'd spent most of the day retrieving her feather, he figured she wouldn't care. Flailing his tail around in the water, Erebus tried splashing her. Sara needed some fun in her life, she always seemed so uptight.

"That can't be . . . It can't be real, can it?" Sara doubted what he said but felt confident in trusting him. "I'll have to wait and see won't I?" she grinned and jumped in after him. Splashing her paws on the water's surface, she stirred it up and splashed him back, "Tag you're it!" she giggled and took off doggy paddling toward the other end of the lake. It felt good to have fun. She hadn't felt like this since she was a cub; her and her brother loved chasing each other and playing around. Sara was shocked at the happy memory and caught herself missing her 'know-it-all' brother. Lodging the memory away tight -- until it decided to pop up again -- she instead turned her attention to enjoying the day with Erebus. "You're slow! You can't possibly catch me!" Sara went into a fit of giggles as she tried pulling herself up onto the shore to run toward the flora and ruins.

Erebus nodded. He went back to swimming for a fraction of second and was pelted with a wave of water that came from her. Flipping over to swim after her, he grinned and dove underwater. He was quicker underwater than he was wading through it and caught up to her on shore. Erebus rose above the surface and trotted over to her, "Tag! Now you're it," he teased nuzzling her cheek.

Sara calmed down to having a few more giggles then stopped as he spoke. She caught his nuzzle in one of her own and licked his cheek lovingly. Before she stopped herself Sara said, "I love you. But I'm afraid to," as she stared deeply into his silver eyes. They held hers for a moment longer before she broke the contact and rolled away with her wings curled slightly around her, as if she was cold. Sara felt like she had told him she had killed someone dear to him, or told him her whole life's story and how many lives she had taken in her lifetime. Guilty and ashamed.

Erebus froze at her words becoming confused, "You're afraid to what? Love me? Why?" he didn't understand. He felt sad when she walked away from him, like a cool had settled into the warming moment he had wished would never go away. But in that instant it was all ruined. Erebus wanted to say I love you too, but was afraid that would scare her away. "Look it's nothing, you were just caught up in the moment," he called after her.

Sara stopped and turned to face him and shrugged her shoulders. She didn't want to tell him why, she figured she'd tell him when she was brave enough to do so. But maybe Erebus was right, she was just caught up in the moment, "Uh yeah . . .I was just caught in the moment," she gave a guilty smile that didn't reach her eyes. Looking up at the sky, she noticed it was night as the moon came out from behind a pair of wispy, gray clouds. "Look, isn't it beautiful?" Sara asked hoping to change the subject, "So where's the exit then?" she gave a small smile, trying harder this time and it did reflect in her eyes for the most part.

Erebus felt a stab to his heart at her words. He wouldn't force it on her, he'd rather have her come to him. Erebus had forever, he could wait. Raising his eyes to the sky he noted the full moon. It looked sad, mirroring what he felt. Erebus nodded, "It is beautiful Angel. Over there, where the white butterflies are dancing. That's where the exit is," he pointed in the direction across to the other side of the lake. He felt happiness, sadness, everything else that he never had before and found that some emotions weren't for him. Erebus almost wished he hadn't felt any of them at all, especially when he felt his heart almost break. "Would you like to leave?"

"No," Sara felt his sadness and knew he was disappointed. She silently cursed at herself for being uncaring and cruel to him. Erebus was her best friend, even though she wanted to be more, she just didn't want to chain him to her forever. Plus, Sara was scared at the thought of the commitment and she didn't want to take anything away from him. "Why don't we stay the night here? It's beautiful, I'm sure my ol' cave won't miss us," Sara smiled and padded over to him, then nuzzled his cheek. "C'mon, let's go to sleep my love."
