It was about that time of year again. The stores were set up with colorful light, bright decorations, and promises of large sales. Unsurprisingly, it wasn't only the regular stores that were being kept busy; Elie had managed to drum up plenty of business making various cookies and cakes for the holiday season. In fact, the angel was currently hurrying on his way to make a delivery right now. His hands were full with bags that contained multiple containers of carefully baked cookies, cupcakes and various types of other treats, and he was doing his best to move as quickly as he could to get to the party before too many guests arrived.
Luckily for him, it appeared as though he arrived just as the guests had. As he'd entered through the door of large room that the party was being hosted in, he was quickly greeted by an immensely relieved looking host. Elie smiled back in greeting, his hands still full.
"Sorry that I'm running a bit late. Don't worry about me, I can get this set up on my own." He said, and taking his word for it, the host was quick to let out a sigh of relief and went back to greeting guests. The angel quickly made his way to what was obviously the desert table and got to work.

Parties were, by Liax's opinion, wonderful things. Especially at this time of the year, when the weather was chilly enough to prompt fireplaces and the season prompted peace and love and that sort of stuff. Perhaps Liax's motivations weren't the most pure-hearted, and he was aware of this, but he didn't care enough to change. If he enjoyed himself, that was good enough for him.
The demon had claimed a chair nearby the fireplace, enjoying the heat as his eyes trailed about the room. Gradually it was beginning to fill as guests arrived, something that earned a noise of approval from the silver-haired male. More people always meant more options and more chances.
What caught his eye first was a male weighed down with what appeared to be cakes and other baked goods. He was deemed to be as good a starting point as any, prompting Liax to leave his chair and move across the room. "Do you need any help?" he questioned the other with a tilt of his head, offering a comfortable smile. He became aware now that the other was an angel, and could perhaps be considered a natural enemy. He chose not to care. Did it really matter, if the other didn't start anything either?

Liax's sudden question startled the angel. Elie hadn't exactly expected for anyone to pay him much mind. For while, technically the host had said that it was all right for him to stay once things were set up when he'd first been hired, Elie hadn't exactly planned to do so. He couldn't imagine that he looked like anything other than hired help and assumed that he'd probably be ignored...
For a moment, the containers that were still in his arms were somewhat precariously balanced and obscured his view of Liax.
"Would you?" He asked. "I wasn't expecting it to be this much of a hastle..." The angel shifted the contents of his arms so that he could point to a bag that was still filled several containers of holiday cookies. "Think you could grab those and place them on the table for me? Just take off the lid, put them under their container and they'll be good to go. If you don't mind, that is!"

Now, after offering his help, Liax wasn't one who would turn around and take it back. He may have been a demon and thus, by nature, not the most moral of individuals, but he wasn't that sort of person! No, that wasn't cool at all, pulling stunts like that. Besides, would that really get him anywhere with this pretty piece of eyecandy? He really doubted it. And so, "Not a problem," he assured.
Moving over to the bag pointed out to him, Liax removed a couple containers from it. Besides, what where there to complain about in opening containers of cookies? Oh, this wasn't work at all. If it were, Liax could handle work like this, opening and setting out the goods.

"Thanks. I appreciate it." Elie delicately placed the larger boxes that he'd been carrying on to the table and opened them to reveal several terraces of cake covered in what appeared to be white fondant. Then, as if it would crumble away at the slightest wrong touch, the angel delicately assembled it and, after pulling out a bag of icing from out of nowhere, quickly added some light decoration. After that, he did some quick readjusting and beamed with a sense of pride. Sure, in only a matter of moments, the entire thing would likely be dismantled and devoured, but still... It looked good!
It was right about then that Elie was brought back to reality and remembered that there indeed were people who existed outside of himself. It was then that noticed the demon near by.
"Thanks again. I really mean it." Elie smiled at Liax, although it was not quite as real as it had been before he'd realized that it'd been a demon that had helped him. "If there's anything I can do in return, let me know."
The angel reached into one of his pockets and pulled out a relatively simple looking business card that had his name on it. And other business related things like... His phone number... And his address...
And suddenly he realizes that just maybe, he hadn't quite thought that through... But its too late to withdraw the card now.

Liax had finished his adopted job of setting out the holiday cookies, taking one up as his gaze slid to observe the angel in assembling the cake. He watched the additional touches added to it, a faint smile curling his lips as he rolled his eyes and took another bite from the cookie he held. Personally, he'd thought it looked fine already, but if the other insisted on further flair, Liax wouldn't stop him.
By the time Elie had finished, Liax had taken the last bite of cookie, dusting the crumbs from his fingers. "It wasn't any trouble," Liax assured as he took the offered card. Red eyes blinked lazily as they looked over the presented information. Removing a wallet to tuck the card away within, he spoke as he did. "I'll keep that in mind."
With his hands again freed, Liax offered one to Elie. "Well then, Elie, it's nice to meet you. The name's Liax Hale."

The angel accepted the hand that was offered and gave a polite, albeit rather light shake. "The same goes for you." He answered back with a smile. "Do you go to parties like this often?" Elie had a feeling that he did. Or at the very least, the demon certainly went to them much more often than he did.
Elie wasn't quite sure exactly where this conversation was going to end up. He'd been tempted to go ahead and leave, but after Liax had introduced himself, it felt like it'd be a bit rude to run off right afterward. Perhaps after a few minutes of small talk, he'd try to escape into a crowd and leave.
Though until then... He wasn't entirely sure exactly what an angel was supposed to talk about with a devil.

Perhaps it had simply been a trap for Elie. Being polite, acting perfectly innocent... now wouldn't it be rude if Elie didn't return the favor? Wouldn't that rub the angel the wrong way? If nothing else, it certainly captured Elie for the moment. Perhaps it had been unintentional. Perhaps Liax simply saw the other's name upon the card, and felt it only natural that he introduce himself. Regardless of whether it was one or the other, he did have Elie's attention.
"I suppose you could say that," the demon mused aloud, gaze trailing around the room before returning to Elie. "And what about yourself? Is baking a hobby, a profession, or both?"

Elie couldn't help but start to feel a bit bad about being suspicious about the demon, now. He was simply being polite, yet the first thought the angel had was about how he was going to get rid of him. He mentally grimaced to himself as he remembered all the times he'd given others lectures about how terrible it was to judge someone before you knew them, and yet...
Well, he'd try to be a bit warmer towards the demon. He at least deserved that.
"A bit of both, really. I wish it were my only job, but unfortunately, I'm not that lucky." Elie answered. "At least the holiday's good for business."
He had noticed Liax's eye wandering for a moment. "Are you waiting for someone?"

Liax blinked at having been caught in looking around. He shrugged one shoulder in response. "No," he answered easily. "Just giving the place a lookover." He doubted he might keep the angel for the evening, and so perhaps it was time to give a look around and see what other options he had.
"If you don't make a living baking, then what else do you do?" he questioned with a tilt of his head.

“Nothing too exciting, I’m afraid. Right now, I work for a delivery service. It’s been getting busier lately, but it isn’t as if I don’t need the money. I used to enter game tournaments from time to time, like poker or other card games. But I haven’t been to many of those lately. Just haven’t been that interested in playing, I guess.” The angel shrugged.
“How about yourself, if you don’t mind my asking?”

Liax considered the other's words, mulling them over. Sure, angels always talked about not focusing on material things and stuff, and that gambling wasn't good... or at least, the angels Liax had met... but at the same time, money was needed to get by in this world, and if it paid the bills...
Stretching, Liax shook his head. "Nothing particularly interesting," he replied, dropping his arms and shrugging. One hand reached over, taking up another cookie. "Depends on the season, what I can find." Technical work with plays, acting work, harvest....

If Elie’s concerns about money surprised Liax, it was a good thing that he hadn’t met his brother, the pervert.
“That’s understandable. Sometimes you have to take what you can get, I suppose.” Elie answered. He was starting to feel a bit… awkward. While he still wanted to leave, he didn’t want to end the conversation with an awkward silence. He momentarily glanced around the room, hoping that some sort of conversation piece might catch his eye.
Unfortunately, he was not quite so lucky, but it certainly looked as though Liax had no problem with helping himself to the cookies.
“So… Ah… Do you like the cookies? I had to do a bit of improvising with these last few batches.”

Liax blinked, glancing at the cookie he held when Elie's question brought his attention to it. Shrugging, he took a bite of the treat. "Mm, yeah," he chimed in approval. "I mean, it's not like I go out to the bakery often or anything." If he DID have cookies, it was usually from a pack bought at the supermarket, Oreos or Chips Ahoy! or whatever. Nothing actually made by someone, and not a machine.
"So then, you cook often?" Judging by the way Liax paused after the words left his lips, he'd obviously realized just how ridiculous the question was. If baking were a profession, of course he baked often.

Elie looked rather pleased at Liax’s response. “That’s good to hear. That you like them, I mean. And it’s too bad. Maybe it’s just because of my interests, but I’ve always found that there’s something about food that’s been made by someone that can’t be found in prepackaged… Well, prepackaged anything, really.”The angel nodded as he said this.
”Well… Yes and no, I guess… I mean, if you consider baking and cooking the same, then yes. But otherwise… I usually just stick to making deserts and maybe a basic meal. I guess I could if I had the recipe and the proper ingredients to make something, but… Never really crossed my mind.” Elie shrugged at that. When he was younger, he’d considered trying to be a chef and going to chef school and what not, but never really had the money. And then when he possibly could have done so, he’d lost interest. His interest in baking had mostly been the result of having a massive sweet tooth and being pestered by friends and relatives to make more treats while growing up.
Most of his abilities had come about from experience and trying to recreate what he’d seen elsewhere.
