The only real backpacking I've done was an eight day trip around the base of Mt. Rainier which I turned into a seven day trip and regretted it. I wanted to brag about being able to do it faster than I had planned, but forgot that it was more important to me to just spend time out there and enjoy the environment. I had fun though. I also love hiking... and snowshoeing, and pretty much everything outdoors. ^_^

There's some great parks for hiking where I live, and it's not like, some dirt trails in between some trees. They've got rocks to climb up, and really hike and it's a lot of fun.

When I am home on break I tend to go hiking several times a week in the mountains around my house. In the summer I like to go on a 5 day backpacking, biking and rafting trip with the local camp.

That's really awesome! Mind if I ask what region you live in?

Well I'm from Tacoma, Washington. So basically I live in the Pacific Northwest region. We have a lot of evergreen forests and mountains. Mostly I just ask because I'm curious about the climate and geology of the terrain where you hike.

Well that's basically what hiking is. I'm not sure what you mean by "professional hiking". But yeah, it is really fun. I know you're in the Seattle area. I highly recommend you check out the gorge down near Oregon and also the Pacific Crest Trail. Some of my favourite spots in the state. ^__^

Oh! And the Ape Caves at Mount St Helens are wonderful. Some really great photographs in areas where natural light leaks down into the caves from openings. Other that that though they're mostly pitch black down there so I would make sure that you're well prepared with flashlights/headlamps and what not. Also, boots are a must. And make sure you've got friends with you just in case you get hurt, because there are several areas in the caves where some climbing skill is necessary in order to go further. It's all great fun though.

Well as far as boots go, I swear by the sporting good store "Big 5". I've bought some really freaking durable (have taken SERIOUS abuse and lasted me four years and counting and are still in great condition). And I got them on clearance for like 60% off. Big 5 always has boots on clearance so I would definitely check them out.
*facepaws* Wow, I sound like I should be in a commercial. Hahaha.
