WARNING: THIS IS AN RP THAT PEOPLE WILL DIE IN. PERIOD. Whether that be survivors if they are clumsy or unlucky, or zombies if they drop and are fed to other zombies and blood-drained out of mobility, is a matter of strategy and luck. When you join this RP, you must be willing to accept that your character might be one that drops. We want people to join us - really, we want this to be ******** awesome! - but if you cannot do this, do. Not. Join.

MOD NOTE: There is no restriction on the number of zombies that can show up. It's for each roleplayer to make their own judgment call as to whether their character would show up at the time they do, whether it makes sense for that many zombies to be close enough in the time period described, etc. Use your common sense, and we'll play with whatever you use!

The IC Stuff

Just outside of the burned-out dorms, on the west side, sits the small, neglected shack of the groundskeepers'. Over the past day, there's been a sudden flurry of activity, taking place at random intervals and odd hours. Ground getting dug up. Rubble getting shifted around. The inside of the dorms being stacked with furniture. It all came together today, however, over the course of an hour or so - and what was once a lonely shed next to a decrepit building, has suddenly become fortified and full of life. The ground around this fortification has been cleared of rocks and large potential projectiles.

THE WEST/FRONT SIDE

A line of barriers is the first thing to catch the eye, made mostly out of tables set up on their sides that seem to have been filched from classrooms. Wooden stakes driven into the ground on either side of these tables prevents them from being moved forward or backward. There is a break in the center; before this, though, is a shallow trench that reeks of chemicals, which stretches about two-thirds the distance between the north and south corners.

Once you get past this shallow trench and barriers, there is a wooden palisade of just a few feet. Wooden spikes are set in it, driven outward, to prevent attackers from rushing it (unless they want to risk impalement). This is shaped like an inward-facing bracket (i.e., "[") and is about as long as the trench.

THE NORTH SIDE

On the north side of the shed is another barrier of furniture. This barrier extends just far enough to contain the west-facing door of the dorm building, through the broken glass of which a huge pile of rubble can be seen, preventing the door from being opened.

(Unseen from the north vantage point: a shallow trench has been dug just inside of this line of barriers, and is lined with sharp stakes.)

THE SOUTH SIDE

Here, the view is much the same as the north side. It is lined up about ten feet away from the corner of the building,.

(Unseen from the south vantage point: here, too, is a shallow and spiked trench, somewhat larger than the one on the north.)

THE EAST SIDE/WITHIN THE DORMS

The rubble pile has changed. There is now a huge amount blocking the southwest corner, and it seems to be supported by something on its other side. There was plenty of rubble in this area already, however, caused by collapsing ceilings - maybe there was just another collapse?

(Unseen from ANY direction; the rubble is supported by furniture, making it fairly sturdy (or sturdier than a random pile of rubble) a passage leads behind this rubble. There is a weakened support beam here as well which could bring the ceiling down, potentially.)

THE SHED

The shed itself is nearly surrounded by barriers, with small breaks at the corners large enough for one person to pass through at a time. There are shovels, hoes, rakes, and other gardening tools (re: weapons) leaning against the shed. The barriers here are a bit higher than elsewhere, made especially for ducking behind in the case of long-range attack (as opposed to breaking charges.) A barrier also sits up near a wall, providing a small amount of space in which a wounded body could be hidden.

(Unseen from west side, very difficult to see from north side (nearly impossible if your vantage point is not past the north barriers), likely impossible from the south or east side; behind the barrier against the wall is a hole which one person could duck through at a time.)

The OOC Stuff

POSTING/ROLEPLAY NOTES:
*Humans: You can find a write-up of the tactics that Sue would have communicated (though possibly not well) to everyone at the planning thread, here. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO STICK TO THESE TACTICS. Sue will be pissed if you don't, but do what makes sense for your character.
*Zombies: Somewhere in your post, please state clearly what direction you're attacking from - the front side, the north side, or the south side.
*Unaffiliated Survivors: The group will definitely, DEFINITELY take the help of bystanders. If you want to join after the RP has started, though, and there are zombies on the scene, you probably won't be able to join in their defenses until there's a break in action.

ATTACK NOTES:
*THIS IS A ROLLING RP. The only way to keep the battle fair (and random) is to involve dice, not depend on RP. However, this is a complex situation with a simple rolling system; please pay attention to the setup, and guide when and how you roll based on the roleplay around you. Consider it a chance to show off your good judgment in RP, eh?
*Zombies: Before you can attack, obviously, you need to reach a survivor. Unless your zombie can fly, it's probably not reasonable for them to be able to attack at their first opportunity, at least not hand-to-hand; they have to get past a number of obstacles first. Please acknowledge these defenses, and use your best judgment on how your zombie would approach them. Dice rolls for damage or success are encouraged, but not enforced.
*Humans: Inside the groundskeeper's shed and piled at every post, there are a number of rocks and bricks to throw. These are the first defense - while zombies are navigating the defenses, the Leader will designate targets to be focused on. Only if a zombie comes up to a barrier or the palisade are you expected to engage in melee combat.
*ALL: If there are zombies coming from multiple fronts (north, south, etc.) then, rather than a slow free-for-all that would stretch things out unto eternity, consider yourself split into an RP group with those in your attacker/defender group. So a zombie attacking from the North would only have to worry about the North Side Defenders and North Front Defenders during post order, so long as there is a zombie attacking from the south. Any defenders which are not occupied in defending can temporarily join one of these groups.

This was it. As good as it got. All teams assembled, all persons explained their role. The cats were in their sentry positions, in the trees and on the second story windows. They'd give warning if anything came up on them. The defenses were in place, all weaponry stockpiled. At any time now, the first enemy could show. This was the last chance for words, and then there would be no looking back.

And Sue... had none. Had few, anyway. He wasn't the sort that usually took this sort of role, with people looking to him for guidance. It had taken the ******** zombie apocalypse for him to connect with people at all - really connect, really care, really worry - but he was still himself, Sue. The one that thought actions were the only things that really meant anything.

At the same time, these people were here. Them being here, that was an action of pretty damn big meaning. And they deserved... something from him, for that. And a simple little thank you, good luck wouldn't cover it.

"We're not here to die." It was an awkward, abrupt start, but it was the strongest thought in Sue's head. "Folks, remember that. We're not here to die. We're here to live. Because this is our best chance. And when this is over, all of us still living? Are going to ******** live for the rest of us."

Something told him that was too short. Something told him to keep going. But, as stated- Sue wasn't really this kind of guy. He didn't speak to crowds well, even small crowds of people he was trusting his life and the life of his last friend in the world with. Once he said what needed saying, he was done. Let someone else do the full Highlander routine if they needed it; Sue was moving up to his post behind the palisade, and that, he thought, said it all.

He was scared, but that was natural, wasn't it? They had a strong line of defense, team members who were ready to take down any opposing zombie, but he was still scared. Did they really know what they were up against? How many zombies would come? They couldn't take them all out at once. So, Yahya was scared. Scared. Scared, scared, scared, and no matter how much he wanted to hide it, his fear still showed. Fear and reluctance. Yahya wasn't a fighter, and he didn't much like the idea of massacring zombies... but they had no choice. This was it, a final stand for their lives. Yahya couldn't back down now, not when other people needed him. So, while he didn't... really want to do this, he would.

He wouldn't waver anymore.

Yahya glanced to Sue, worry creasing his brows as his friend spoke up to the small band of humans. Sue may not be the best with words, but what he spoke was... somewhat inspiring still. They weren't here to die. They were here to survive, to live another day. Yahya would protect them, he didn't want to see someone else die who was under his care, under his protection.

The teenager was torn between silently going to his station, or staying to say something to his friend. He didn't know what to do, or what to say to Sue. Hell, he had no idea what to say to anyone else. It wasn't a normal school day, where he could joke around lightly with his friends, smile and think that nothing would disrupt his happy little life. It was different now, so different. Forcing a smile onto his face, he said the only thing that came to his mind, the only thing Sue might approve of him saying. "Don't let yourself get killed."

He should get to his station, and ready himself mentally for the upcoming battle.

Already, it was time. Sam clutched the handle of the hoe he'd claimed (yeah, yeah, save the jokes for if they made it through this mess alive) and made it a point to stand a little straighter, trying to seem taller than he was. The boy looked far better off than when Sue had found him amongst the ruins, but at the same time, so far fallen from where he'd been before this chaos had torn their lives to shreds. There were dark circles under his vibrant eyes, too little sleep in too little time haunted by too many nightmares. What he wouldn't have given for another dream about killer pizzas or alien invaders - the nightmares from his past seemed like nothing now compared to the ones he was forced to relive each time his eyes drifted closed. And it was only going to get worse from here.

In all honesty, he knew he didn't deserve to be here. Of all the people in this school to survive, all the gifted, talented, wonderful people, it made no sense for someone like him to be amongst the living. All those people with futures ahead of them, with families waiting for them at home. It wasn't fair. It just wasn't.

But fair or not, for whatever reason, he was here. No matter how much he regretted it, there was no way he could go back and insist the other boy take the mirror instead. It was tucked away safe on his person, a light weight to always remind him of where he'd been and where it had all really started to go wrong. Sam had survived this far. Like any human, he wasn't about to lay back and die. No matter how worthless his life might be, he'd cling to it.

Not just for himself. If he'd stayed alone, honestly... he didn't know what would have happened. How long it would have been before one of these monsters came along and tore him to shreds just like the others. He'd found others, and now, those others were depending on him, same as that boy had. In his own head, it wasn't just a chance to live. It was a chance to redeem himself in his own mind. If he could just help them, help protect even one life, then...

Sam was petrified, honestly. He'd be staring down monsters that might be wearing the faces of his friends, and no matter what he'd been told, he knew no amount of talk would prepare him for what he was about to see. He'd have to do some horrible things. Things he didn't want to do. But if he'd done the horrible thing in the first place and let that girl be, maybe they both could have made it. It was one or the other, no other choice in sight. It was with that line of thought driving him on that the pink haired boy carried himself with such determination, somehow managed to pull himself back together in spite of it all.

Sam nearly startled when Sue abruptly began to speak, though he hid it well. He'd always been good at hiding things when he put his mind to it. But the words struck a chord, stronger than he would have ever guessed. Who knew the guy had it in him to say something so poignant? The half-crazed, angry guy with all the cats he'd only known from a distance, turned around and given him another chance he didn't deserve. A lump formed in his throat at those final words, and he looked down as he fought to swallow it. If anyone asked him, that was all that needed to be said.

And all he could say back when he found his voice to speak again, just before he moved off into position, was a simple: "Thank you." Hopefully that said enough.

Kirin was glad for the lack of lengthy speeches. Sure, the occasion deserved one, but then Kirin would have to suffer through it. And Kirin pissed off and everyone else pissed right back off at Kirin was not a good way to start the battle for this school.

"We'll all see each other one way or another before it's done," Kirin said. Either they'd be alive at the end, or they'd be staking each other out at some point. And hey, maybe that was morbid to point that out, but it wasn't like they were never going to see each other again. Hell, maybe they'd all end up zombies together. At least until they ate each other.

Shaking his head, Kirin turned and made his way to the South Front post. A creepy chuckle trailed behind him as he walked. He took a seat on a pile of large rocks and loose bricks, scrounged from the burnt-out dorms. A rope tied around his waist acted as a 'sword belt' for his trusty metal pipe, leaving his hands free until close-range fighting broke out. He ran his hands over the projectile weapons as his eyes scanned the ground ahead. Kirin began to fidget, waiting for something to happen...

What's a zombie to do when they find themselves crawling from their grave in search of human flesh and blood and apparently not fatty brains? But moreso than the first time that this poor soul had been dragged from its coffin, Zombeline was aware that she was... well... the living dead.

At first she'd found a nice cozy spot to crawl into and cry her rather wet and drippy eyes out, but when that had tried her patience, and she remembered that certain people had tasted quite.... um, tasty, Zombeline realized something; first, since she was a creature of disreputable nature now, she didn't have to be a dancer, and incidentally.... she didn't have to diet. Abeline's parents already thought she was dead and so.... so.... she'd been holed up feeling sorry for herself in the school grounds, and now, with determination, she was going to feed and then figure out whatever came next.

Pity she only felt free now that she was dead. But Zombeline stood up, her eyes less teary and more.... well, a little teary seeing as they were very moist these days. She would be a concencious zombie though-- she wouldn't take too much, just enough to survive, and maybe.... well... she could smell something just divine. Like scared boys....

Angelically, Zombeline wandered, ambling across fields of debris and tromped on ground. Following her nose. She came to a stop around the corner of what had been a school building once and pulled her wet hair (honestly wasn't it ever going to dry?) out of her face. Approaching from the North side Abeline could see a very fortified location.

She wasn't shambling, in fact, she walked in a poised manner, sniffing out well... human flesh ripe for the nibbling. "Excuse me?" Abeline called out, politely.

See, if you knew her, that was the sign that she was definitely the undead; Abeline Froust was neither polite nor timid enough to call out like that. But she was cunning, and perhaps she was trying to lure her next meal to her.

Evie was fourth in command! That was fantastic! It meant she was in charge of retreating, if they had to, and in charge of her own little piece of the fortifications, which for a fifteen-year old was simply fantastic. She had little desire to climb the latter at this point (since it would mean the death of three of the strongest people in the group), but it was still an honor to be given a position of power, however small. It had been because of her awesome stake-making skills. She was sure of it. With bright eyes she surveyed her work, fond of the chemical touch even if it made her nose run. Maybe the bleachy smell would prevent the zombies from sniffing them out.

She then looked up to Sue, assessing him with a curious gaze. A week ago, the mere sight of him would have been enough to turn her into a nervous wreck, afraid for his condescending tone and his scathing words. However, now that she was on the right side of things, it seemed, they at least had something of an understanding (which meant he pretty much avoided eye contact as much as possible, and Evie was beginning to be okay with that). She even knew better than to sing around him, keeping Columbus-Tallahassee relations peaceful, which Evie reluctantly knew was more important than the sound of her voice. She felt like she should say something, to acknowledge the common bond they shared, or to just be a comfort in a tense time, when something caught the edges of her hearing.

A voice, from outside. Roughly C-sharp toned.

Evie's head darted towards the North, standing on the tips of her toes to try and get a better vantage point over the furniture barricade. She couldn't identify the girl, but she could certainly identify the greenish pallor, and she froze where she stood, hesitant as to what she should actually do next. Sue was the one who was supposed to shout out attack commands, but did he notice the girl? He had to have heard her, if she could have. Still, to make sure he was alerted, she quickly pointed towards the North. "She looks green to me, Sue," she whispered, as if she was afraid the zombie would hear. "Should we attack?"

Zombieline just wasn't having any luck recently, was she? In life or in death, she was just walking into impossible situations. One zombie coming up alone against the first eager defenses of a grim group bent on survival. Sue could have pitied her.

Except, you know. For the fact that she was green.

Sue wans't one of those folks that was into asspatting, but he issued a curt nod to Evie - less a matter of agreement, more an expression of his approval at her alertness.

"Everyone," his voice picked up a sudden booming volume, "Aim for the north target!"

Sue wasn't an idle commander, either. He grabbed a brick off of the top pile and chucked it at the approaching north side zombie. If he felt any regret at the zombie-murder he was about to commit, the angry grimace on his face sure as hell didn't show it. All he could think about was maybe this was the one that had gotten Piper, and in the room with that, there as no space for remorse.

Finally, something to do! Adrenaline spiked through Kirin. If he were a nicer person, he'd a feel a little sorry for the first zombie. It got to be their trial run, not to mention having the full attention of the entire group since it was all alone.

Kirin stood, grabbing one of the bricks his hands had been toying with in boredom moments before. It wasn't technically 'leaving his post' to move closer to the North side and take aim at the invader.

He didn't recognise the girl attacking, not that it would have stopped him anyway. With a grunt, Kirin launched the brick at the zombie's head. He waited to see if it went down or not. If it did, and it was time for staking zombies out, Kirin wanted to see that, too. While waiting, he kept turning to check his side of the ground for intruders.

The idea of fighting did not appeal to Joanne. It was cruel, messy, and did nothing for anybody. Her grandmother would faint dead away if she even heard Joanne's name mentioned in a sentence where the word "fight" was used. Her father often told her that the best battles were of wits, but wits only went so far. Now, she almost felt like she could understand what he meant.

The idea of dying appealed even less to Joanne, which was how she found herself in her current position. She was silent throughout Sue's speech, which was not unusual for her. But she found herself comforted by his words, however awkward they were. Teamwork was a new experience for her as well. Was it the right choice? Only time would tell. At the very least, she felt more comfortable physically, if not mentally, than she had shut up in the broom closet.

She stood in silence, waiting tensely. It had seemed like a sure thing that they would show up. And sure enough, someone approached. Just Joanne's luck, they approached her side. It meant that she had to act. She picked up a brick, feeling its weight in her hand as she looked for the target- and froze.

Joanne did not have friends at Barren Pines. She had told herself in preparation for this that she would be fine defending herself against anyone. But that was not strictly accurate, and she knew it. Of all the people at Barren Pines, there were two she knew she couldn't attack. This was one of them.

Dropping the brick, Joanne watched in horror as the others picked up her slack. She knew it would happen that way; it was inevitable. And while the scene was horrifying, she was relieved. If someone had to kill Miss Abeline, at least it didn't have to be her.

But next time... next time, she told herself, she would be ready.

Jess was impressed. Apparently Sue had been a good enough talker and planner to actually mobilize what was left of the living in the school. Leaning against a tree along the south side of the defense, she clutched at the cut on her upper left arm and almost smiled. Almost. Between the stinging throb in her arm and the heavier, more painful throbbing of her broken ankle, she was finding it difficult to find much to smile about.

It would probably be a good idea to let the others know she'd managed to survive her stint as a solo operator. Limping out a bit further, she was somewhat surprised to see Kirin standing not too far off, happily lobbing bricks at a zombie. Now, now she could smile. Speaking just loud enough for the other girl to hear, she said, "Looks like you won't have to bury this would-be hero for a while. Mind filling in a poor girl who's out of the loop?"

However, even as she spoke, she was putting her back against the tree and shifting her weapons for easy use and access.

"I even brought you back a present."

(OOC Note: If any zombies attack the southside, feel free to target Jess. She's badly wounded and I want her to go out fighting.))

Vera was calm. She'd kept her bow, and been given sharper arrows, in addition to the ones that might be lit on fire later, if it came to that. She wasn't one to care much about speeches or rousing words, or team spirit - it was all just so much flulff, to her. So the girl had tuned out Sue, scanning out beyond the rather impressive given what they had to work with barricades. Not that she could see much, really. It was still worth looking.

When Yahya arrived at his position (which was guarding her, apparently; Vera found this amusing), she nodded absently at him and continued to look about. The zombie approaching wasn't anything to concern herself with right now - her orders had been rather bluntly clear. Don't waste ammo on singles.

So she waited, arrows not really stuck in the ground in front of her; they rested within easy reach if more zombies showed themselves. It was over shortly, for the moment. Until more zombies appeared. If they did.

A nice little "good to see you, Jess" might have been appreciated - or not - but either way, Sue didn't care for it. The girl showing up in more-or-less a single piece was a good turn of fortune, but Sue wasn't the sort to thank practicality. She'd know he was grateful by the way he fought to keep her protected, as much as the rest of the team.

With Jess at her post and no more zombies in sight, Sue could move forward with the next step. "Evie and Kirin." The Third and Fourth, positioned strategically where they could be called on, were his best bets. "Get a spike, go double-tap and get the corpse moved, before more show up." He didn't know if either of the girls would actually have the stomach for what needed to be done, truth to tell - but Sue couldn't leave give orders if he were doing it himself, and if they just let the zombie sit there, she -- no, it -- would probably reanimate at the worst possible time.

One zombie down - dozens more to go.
