When Ryuk dropped the Sidoh's Death Note in the human world, he didn't pick out a human, as we all know. He just let a random person come along and pick it up. That person happened to be Light.
BUT! What if, by some freak cosmic coincidence, L was the one who picked up the Death Note?! Do you think he would use it, or at least test it? Would there have been a completely different story, or would L have just thrown it away or destroyed it? What do you think?

Oh my, what a question. I don't think he would use it, but I'm sure he would want to tes it, just because he is so sure of things.

Ah, I knew there was a movie called that (I'm getting it at christmas =P) but I didn't know that's what it was based on. Also didn't know it was a book. Thanks! =D

L Would Have It Tested Like On A Criminal Scheduled To Be Executed That Day Then Probably Burned It So NOBODY Could Find It

Somehow I think the story would be pretty short in that scenario. L would likely test it, destroy it, and the story would end. You'd never meet any other characters.
