She had broken her promise. That was the irritating thought that nagged her in the back of her mind as she resumed her nightly activities at the park. Broken it. Technically, it had been some random promise. So she didn't need to keep it, really. In fact, keeping that silly promise would be a dereliction of duty-- and duty was more important. She reminded herself of that over and over, the explanation seemed plausible enough.

"Wow, I'm an idiot. I shouldn't have made that ridiculous promise in the first place if it was going to bother me this much." She said aloud to herself, sighing at her stupidity. She was on the ground, using a delicate stick to draw a bunny in the dirt, a bunny similar to her hair clip. She was coloring the eyes and mouth-- more so, just shifting dirt around and using rocks to decorate the drawing but nevertheless, the art of drawing in sand and dirt. Something that an elementary school student could master oh-so-very-well. Not half as well as Serandite did though. Ha.

Undoubtedly, Pyxis was a little lacking in the awareness department. This stacked on top of a tendency to be horribly gullible, which was a possibly fatal combination. He was, however, smart enough to know that he should be on his toes while patrolling. There were for reals monsters out there that needed defeating. More practically, he was mistaken for a girl about a billion times a day, and Serandite had warned him that girls shouldn't walk outside alone after dark.

Serandite had also been the other half of a promise not to ever come to this area again. He couldn't fight off the nagging feeling in his tummy that he was really messing up by breaking this promise. She'd probably had a reason for telling him to stay away...and he'd never broken a promise before. This was doubly dangerous territory, which made him doubly antsy.

But being a Senshi meant he had to do a lot of things he didn't particularly want to, like fight things and try to be really brave. Even more brave than leading an adventure into the woods, or being the first to try a new flavor of ice cream. He had to be here, so he'd have to hope that she could forgive him. Just this once. Chewing his lip, he walked with a slow, deliberate pace, as if he were worried that making the slightest noise would cause his world to cave in.

Somebody... was here. Probably a civilian. She didn't stand up, sitting on the ground as she turned her head around to see who this new intruder was. After all, this drawing was quite a good one. But she could recognize that outfit design and aura anywhere. It was a senshi--! To think, that senshi might have caught a negaverse slacking off and drawing. oh crap-- oh crap. In any normal situation, any typical negaverse would attack the senshi immediately. but Serandite was in a slightly alarmed state-- What if Charonite had gotten hold that she was drawing on the job?! GODDAMNIT.

She turned towards the senshi, unable to hide, quite sure he or she had spied her by now (unless they was blind) and tried to step over the drawing so that the senshi wouldn't see. She didn't know that this was the Pavel she had met-- certainly not in his henshined form. But for some reason.. as the scout neared, there was an nagging familiar feeling about that senshi.

"How surprising. I didn't know that kids were recruited in the senshi ranks as well." She put her hand to her mouth in a shocked gesture, the surprised words also meant to cover up her lack of patrolling. Could this be.. she wasn't the only kid-look alike in the negaverse/senshi ranks! Yay!

... WHOO-HOO.

Clearly, he'd been a bit too noisy - as he caught sight of the girl, he felt as if the ground was moving beneath him. His heart sank, and his voice quivered as he responded to her.

"I'm not just a kid," he protested, lashing out at the unfairness of it all. It was unlike him to ever lose his cheery disposition, but this was different.

It was Serandite. Serandite, with whom he had shared his rainbow Band-Aids, who seemed not-so-bad, who warned him to stay away. He immediately swore to never break another promise again, because this was bad. Really, this was infinitely more than bad. He didn't want to hurt her! He couldn't give her Band-Aids if he'd purposely caused her ouchies! It made sense, after realization began to set in. Serandite even sounded like a Negaverse name. He was so, so stupid. Stupid and betrayed.

He locked his knees, hoping that it would stop them from shaking. Frowning, he put his hands on his hips, looking as imposing as a five-year-old. "Anyway, you're just the same size that I am! And you can't hurt me, because I won't let you. And I won't let you do...whatever bad stuff it was that you were doing here, either."

It sounded convincing in his head. In reality, he sounded like a hurt little kid, worried that he couldn't stop her from doing any of that.

"Well, I say that too and nobody listens to me." Serandite said in an amused helpless tone, shaking her head. She didn't realize his turmoil inside but if she had known his identity, she would have gone through the exact same thing.

She took the time in between to admire his.. uh.. colorful colors. There was no other way to describe it. And strangely, it worked. It was almost a rainbow. And since it was almost a rainbow, Serandite dubbed it as such. "True. I may be the same size that you are but let me assure you, it's not the size that counts. I definitely can hurt you." She informed him, mirroring his pose with the air of haughtiness, hand on hip.

"You're a really cute little girl. I like your fashion too, even though it's a bit on the odd side. But it's a shame that you'll have to go." She certainly didnt mean for the other to exit the park nicely if he got her drift.

"My name's Serandite. What's your name, Miss rainbow senshi?"

Though he'd considered Serandite as possibly a little bit irritable before, she was being downright mean now, offering no hope that they could just go their separate ways so he could go curl up in bed. Abel warned him that this would eventually happen, but he felt miserably unprepared. Even the youma still scared him, and this was a real-live person. A person that he'd wanted to be friends with before. It was worse than any youma could ever hope to be.

Trash-talking was definitely not his strong point, considering he spent the majority of his time trying to be nice and sweet and make people as happy as possible. But you couldn't nice a Negaverse agent away. That didn't work. He knew as much because he'd specifically asked Abel once, and Abel said no.

"But I'm not going anywhere," he responded with a frown. "And I'm not a girl...but I do like your dress."

He bit his lip, his wide eyes stinging with what he hoped were not tears. "My...my name is Sailor Pyxis, and I'm here to direct you to your defeat!" He stumbled just enough for it to be noticeable as he stepped towards her, forgetting that he'd locked his knees. "You're a mean, mean girl, and I'm not gonna let you hurt any more people! 'Cause it's just not nice!"

"Wait, you're not a girl?" Serandite's voice raised in amazement, taking a step forward to examine the scout. B-But.. that was clearly a skirt. Clearly.

Whaaaaaat?

Her confusion and bewilderment was clear on her face. She knew she should have stepped up and fought her--him by now, since their introductions were over. And his words were just so.. amazingly, elementary. How old was this kid? (She was still amazed because he was wearing a skirt okay.)

Serandite's smile grew larger, realizing that he had little experience with "mean" people. Oh, poor deceived little senshi. She spoke in a knowing tone, wondering what this senshi was really fighting for. Did he even understand the consequences of fighting?

"Oh, I'm mean? I simply do what I need to for my goal. Is it really so wrong, to work towards your duty? People hurt each other physically and emotionally every day. They trample others in an attempt to reach their goal. But you fault me for this? Is it 'not nice' to head for my goal? To carry them out? I don't see you punishing everyone else out there." Serandite had thrown a psychological question at the scout, wondering what sort of answer he would give. She hoped it wasn't the horribly typical answer.. not that it mattered, since he would be crushed soon from his own inexperience anyways. If not by her, by some other senior agent. But she wasn't planning to let him get away.

Her small bunny leaped next to her, mimicking her gesture of waiting because that was was she was doing. Waiting for an answer.

"No!" he insisted, brows furrowing. Usually, he didn't get frustrated when people were confused about his gender. He generally didn't get frustrated at all, but his chest was tight and his face was burning and his cheeks were flushing. Nothing was right and he needed his kitty, or Europa, or something. Anything.

"Well. People shouldn't do that. That's super awful. You're s'posed to make everyone smile, and everyone should be happy, and nobody has to be hurt! Not ever!" It was clear that he'd never suffered a truly traumatic experience. "Your goal should be good stuff, not bad stuff!"

He'd started to cry, unable to fight it back anymore. "You could be so nice. You seemed so nice! Don't be bad, you don't have to be! You can have other goals and stuff, and we could work together! Don't be bad. Please?" It went against everything he knew he was supposed to do, but the words tumbled out beyond his control. He couldn't think about fighting her when there was a chance to make things better. "If nobody does anything bad, nobody has to be punished. See, it works! It would really work!" Stepping closer, he reached out a shaky hand - which became an accusatory finger-point towards her rabbit companion.

"How come you have a bunny!?" he wailed. No, no. Adorable bunnies couldn't possibly be evil too!

It was clear that this scout was too young-- or too sheltered-- to have experienced any harshness in life. After all, from his ideal logic, it was obvious that was a fact.

Unfortunately, as much as Serandite wished his logic was true, life always pointed out otherwise. And.. uh.. he was crying on her now. Serandite didn't know what to do. What do you do when an enemy is crying in front of you? But he was crying. Enemies shouldnt cry in front of each other.. Serandite's head was spinning. She seemed nice? Since when? She didnt know where he got the impression that she was nice. Well, she was, but she had never met the scout before for him to know that.

But she grew offended by his accusing question, her posture distinctly offended now.

"What's wrong with a bunny?" She said, the topic of her weapon was a sensitive topic. " You live in a fantasy world. You think we'll both walk off unscathed but I'll tell you something. I walk away from a battle from you, go around the corner and get a nasty beating for not fulfilling my duties. It doesnt work." She mimicked his words, shaking her head.

"You're a senshi. As soon as you stepped out and confronted me, you made your choice to live with the consequences. Don't waver and hesitate in battle. You're gonna end up dead, whether it's me or someone else that kills you!" She yelled the last sentence, lifting her arm, her bunny suddenly jumped sizes, a large paw coming down to smash the crying scout.

Hitting up crying girls--boys left a bad taste in her mouth. Or actually, just this crying kid. But she had a duty.

Pyxis didn't understand. He was sure that Abel would be disapproving of the way that he'd handled this battle, but he'd never heard any mention of real, honest-to-goodness, super-ouchy punishment if he did a bad job as a Senshi. Why would she get a beating? This would require bothering his guardian cat for knowledge once he got home.

If he got home.

Before he could protest that nothing was wrong with bunnies, just bunnies that were probably going to try and kill him, it was doing just that. He didn't have any time to react before the paw was upon him. He gasped for the breath that had been knocked out of him, pushing feebly against the bunny-appendage. Resolve weakened, he struggled to find the will to fight that had been lost before their battle even began.

Through clenched teeth - oh, yucky, he tasted blood! - he managed a pathetic "Pyxis Firefly Flash...!" But he didn't feel strong at all, and the attack came only a fraction as bright as it should have, fireflies fading like embers against Serandite's bunny.

Frustrated by how miserably he was letting everyone down who was counting on him, he forced himself to stand up, playing-pretend that it didn't hurt all over. "You and...and whoever else...can't kill me, 'cause I have lots and lots of things to live for!" Like candy and kittens and doing things that made people smile.

The fireflies materialized into being again, flashing more brilliantly this time. Though they still were not reaching their full potential in the slightest, he hoped it would be enough to throw Serandite and her bunny minion off, if only for a little while.

"That's a good attitude to take on!" Serandite replied, a grin taking over her features. She hated fighting opponents that hesitated-- and felt much better about fighing an opponent who actually had a reason to fight. A half-assed reason was a sure blow to an enemy's pride after all. Wavering and hesitation were not allowed.

Yellow dots blinded her vision and she thought she was hallucinating for a moment. .. Fireflies.. blinding her? Her eyes, unused to the sudden shift in lights through the dim night, blinked. They neared her, even brighter up close, and caused her to fall over uncertainly. What if they were.. explosive fireflies or something? Would they come in a swarm to attack her?

She reached a hand out, touching the area they swarmed in, cautiously but aware that her hand might be blown off. But it was a risk she took.

Normal.. fireflies? What?
PostPosted: Sat Feb 13, 2010 8:53 am

If he'd taken Serandite's words about his attitude literally, they would have been encouraging to the naive little boy. He might have thanked her, or asked for more pointers. Tonight, however, he was far past the point where such words would be of any help.

Pyxis watched on, curious to see if the fireflies would work on Serandite as they had with the scary elephant-playground-youma. Though she didn't fly into a rage and attempt to trample him, she did seem at least a little confused. Maybe this was working out after all!

Before the opportunity was wasted, he ran towards her, hand raised in a fist. He never reached her, and never struck - beating up the youma and hopping on it like a trampoline was fun because it wasn't a real living thing. Serandite was a person, albeit an evil one. A person who needed band-aids when she got hurt, just like everyone else. And he'd never hit a person before, not ever.

A frown tugged on the corners of his mouth. He knew he couldn't be passive here, because that wasn't his job, but he was not at all ready to hit someone. Not even a bad guy. Instead, he opened his messenger bag, grabbing a handful of coins, candies, and little trinkets, and began to throw them at his opponent with all of his might. He appeared much like a child throwing a tantrum, which wasn't too far from the truth. This wasn't fair.

Really, he reasoned, it was just like giving her things. Forcefully.

He was running toward her-- she got herself ready for the impact that never came. Instead shew as being pelted with.. small items? She stared in bewilderment at the candy and trinkets that flew at her, hardly inflicting any pain. Regret filled her, his teeth bit her lip tightly.

He was so pathetically cute. and he would die for it. She walked towards him, even though trinkets were flung at her, and her hand had made contact. But not with his starseed. In fact, it wasn't even the lower part of his body that she made contact with. Not even with his chest. Instead, he stood there with a red cheek, her eyes on fire with anger, her other hand clenched into a trembling fist.

"Shape up!" She shouted at him, her hand still throbbing from the slap. This was probably the first time she had ever slapped a senshi.

"We're enemies. It's a life and death situation. Not every negaverse agent is as soft as me. They will kill you. They won't care about your candies or your trinkets, they'll take your starseed and leave your cold body here." She said, her voice ringing with regretful anger. She knelt down, picking up the scattered items, soon holding out both hands filled with Pyxis's trinkets, to put back in his bag.

"I will kill you before the night is over. If you don't want that, punch me. Do whatever it takes. Hit me and run if you want." She told him with resolution in her eyes, although the frown that took over her expression told him that she wouldn't like killing him. Her bunny disappeared from it's past location and appeared next to her, ready to attack Pyxis. But she would kill him. Unfortunately.
PostPosted: Mon Feb 15, 2010 8:53 am

Honestly, Pyxis wasn't sure what he expected would happen as a result of his candy-throwing. If he'd actually thought about it, he would have realized that Serandite was probably going to retaliate with something other than candies and trinkets, which meant his counter wasn't that effective in the long run.

But he wasn't thinking. He was being driven by emotion, by hurt, and the slap jolted him back to his senses. Slowly, he raised his hand to touch his cheek, fingertips gently brushing the skin that stung like sunburn.

All he could manage to do throughout her speech was stare at her, blue eyes wide and full of sad confusion. He knew that everything she was telling him was true, but it was hard to understand - how could someone he actually knew be on the other side? How could he be expected to kill a girl that he'd wanted to badly to consider a friend?

He didn't punch her, but reached forward to give her a little shove. "You're not gonna kill me. I'm not gonna kill you," he said, voice wavering. "And. I don't ever wanna see you again." Such words were so harsh and foreign for Pyxis that he couldn't have been sure that he was the one who spoke them.

He cupped his hands, his strange fireflies drawn to them as if they held some mesmerizing light. Sailor Pyxis disappeared behind their glow - it was impossible to tell if he was even still standing there. When they cleared, Pyxis would be long gone, running towards home as best he could with tear-blurred vision.
