((This rp takes place a couple of weeks ago, at the Healer Hall))

Keitha set down her notes with a sigh and looked out the window. About an hour left of required study, then she was free for the evening, and could go pester the harper for more songs about the dragonriders. She already knew everything in her notes by heart, but this close to the bimonthly exams, they required the apprentices to spend a certain amount of time studying.

Keitha turned from the window and dug into her bag. There it was! She pulled out a half-carved block of wood and the anatomy notes on dragons. She was hoping to make an anatomically-correct sculpture of a dragon, but it wasn't working very well. It was one thing to know where all the muscles attached, and quite another to carve it out without making mistakes in the soft wood.

Keitha cursed as she messed up yet again, leaving a long scar in the wood along the dragon's leg. She looked up to find the sun slanting in at a much lower angle. She could've stopped nearly an hour ago! The apprentice shoved her notes and the block of wood back into her bag and tucked the knife back in her belt. She had to hurry if she wanted to catch the harper before the evening meal.

Hurrying out the door, Keitha began to run to the main hall. "Keitha! Slow down! You know you aren't supposed to run unless you're on an errand!" Keitha winced. It WOULD be her least favorite Master who caught her running. She slowed down to a fast walk, and hoped he'd let it go at that.

A light blue dragon blinked out of between over the Healer Hall, and lazily hovered in the sky for a moment, searching for a good landing spot.

Why are we here, mine? he asked his rider. I thought you gave up this place when you Impressed me.

The pale, bald man sighed before communicating to his dragon, To pick up supplies, of course. Until those youngsters learn how to go between, we're stuck with the odd jobs and ridiculous errands. But don't fret; perhaps we can steal some extra numbweed for your scars before everyone else takes it all.

I would like that very much. The dragon started to decend, then added, Maybe we can steal away some impressionable youngsters as well.

What? the rider asked. You don't seriously mean Search out someone? Ariath isn't going to fly again for a while yet.

And when she does, Enelth will need the best candidates for his children.

Of course, the rider said. But remember, we're here for supplies. Anything else, and you'll have some explaining to do to Enelth and Waroth.

Keitha stopped walking as a huge shadow passed over her. She looked up to see a dragon - she couldn't see the color from here, but what did that matter! She broke into a run for the likeliest landing spot, the plaza, ignoring the shouts from the healer behind her. A dragonrider! That was even better than the harper, he'd have more information, if she could get at him!

The blue landed outside the Healer Hall and let his rider get off his back.

Where are the Masters? he asked.Surely they've been informed an important dragonrider has come here?
Probably not. the blue said. They've probably been informed that Wingrider S'dar and Yormeth are coming.

Well, close enough. S'dar said. It's not like the holdbred know any difference. Most of the youngsters will jump at the opportunity to see any dragon whatsoever.

I suppose you're right. Yormeth said.

Of course I'm right, S'dar said. Be prepared for a crowd to swarm around you as soon as they figure out we've arrived.

((Sorry about disappearing, my mom called))

Watching where the dragon landed, Keitha grinned. She wasn't that far, and no-one else had noticed yet! It was an unbelieveable opportunity. Keitha spun around the corner to see the dragon and rider right before her. It was a blue!
"Is there any way I can help you, my lord Dragonrider?" she gasped out. If she was running errands for him, she'd get more chance to ask questions.

((I apologize if my syntax is slightly off...I haven't had access to the books in a few months.))

((No problem. ^_^))

S'dar blinked as heard someone actually volunteering to help. The crowd begins to come, he warned Yormeth before he said. "Why yes, thank you, young lady. Could you tell one of your Masters the rider from Rias is here? We were expecting a numbweed shipment, I believe."

S'dar...

Not now, Yormeth! the rider ordered. After a moment's thought, he sighed and added, "If you're swift about it, Yormeth might let you touch him."

Keitha's eyes gleamed. "Right away, sir!" She took off at top speed for the nearest Master, and caught sight of one, the Master who taught anatomy, heading her way. She ran over to him.

"It's the rider from Rias! He says he's here for a shipment of numbweed."

The healer nodded. "So I had guessed. I've already sent a couple apprentices for the MasterHealer and the numbweed." The Master considered Keitha's enthusiastic face for a moment, then added, "Why don't you tell the dragonrider the numbweed's on it's way?"

Keitha grinned and thanked the healer before taking off again for the dragon and his rider. "The numbweed's on it's way!"

((Is there someone with the MasterHealer as their character at this point, or are they still an NPC?))

((I'm pretty sure it's still a NPC. If I'm wrong...sorry to offend the person playing them. crying ))

"Excellent," S'dar said, folding his hands in front of him as he often did out of boredom. "Well, I suppose I'd better live up to my end of the bargain. Yormeth?"

Certainly, the dragon said as he carefully and slowly lowered his head closer to the girl's level. But, S'dar...

Not now. he said privately. "Now, what is your name, that I may tell Yormeth and he'll be less nervous?"

Or you could just tell me yourself, Yormeth said to the girl, his eyes whirling a content shade of green as he gave her a dragon version of a smirk. If S'dar wouldn't listen to him about the girl, he'd have to take things into his own hands-err, claws.

Keitha's eyes widened as the dragon spoke to her. I'm Keitha...and thank you for the honor of speaking to me!

"I'm Keitha," she added allowed for the rider's benefit. "And your dragon...Yormeth, he just spoke to me!" While the main portion of her mind was still in shock, at a lower level she was catalogueing various information. So their eyes really do change color, it's not just a myth like the harper said...

You are quite welcome, young lady. Yormeth said.

"Yormeth...spoke...to you," S'dar said in a tone that indicated his disbelief of this.

I did, S'dar. the dragon explained.

Yormeth, I thought you were too old for pranks like that.

But you said I could find good candidates for Enelth's children.

I told you you'd have explaining to do!

And I'll just explain that we found an impressionable young girl who could be persuaded to join our cause...

Is that impressionable uppercase or lowercase?

With any luck, both.

"Hmmm, he did speak to you." S'dar said, remembering his manners. "I'm sorry I didn't believe you at first; it's not normal for dragons to speak to people other than their riders, you see, and there's always some lad or lass who tries to claim he said something to them to get out of their chores at whatever Hall or Hold we happen to be visiting. It seems, Keitha, that Yormeth believes you are candidate material at Rias. There isn't a clutch right now, but when the young queen Ariath rises this time, the rightful Weyrleader will regain his position again, and there will be plenty of strong dragons needing capable riders. Of course, you could choose to stay here if you wish. I'll let you have until we're finished loading all of the numbweed to decide."
PostPosted: Sun Dec 11, 2005 1:59 pm

Keitha grinned. "Oh, it won't take that long! I want to go! I've always been fascinated by the Weyr and Dragonriders, and it's so hard to find information! Do you really mean it?!" She looked excitedly from the rider to his dragon and back again, not noticing the MasterHealer coming up behind her. "I could really become a dragonrider?"

"What's this about one of my best apprentices leaving us for the Weyr? You wouldn't do that to us, would you, S'dar?" The MasterHealer smiled down at Keitha, who was now looking quite distraught.

"Of course you could, if that is what you desire," S'dar laughed as he turned to the MasterHealer and saw the look of fear on Keitha's face. He could still remember the day he was Searched quite clearly, and it was a fond memory. "Now you know, sir, that once you're a healer apprentice, you never truly give it up. You could just consider it as...borrowing one of your best apprentices."

For the rest of her life, Yormeth said.

"For the rest of her life?" the MasterHealer asked at almost the exact same time, smirking at the dragonrider.

S'dar shrugged. "Time's not important for anything other than Threadfall and...making certain that my Wingleader isn't angry at me for delaying the numbweed shipment."

The dragonrider turned and noted that other apprentices had already started loading up the containers of numbweed onto Yormeth's back. They were almost finished. "So, MasterHealer, would you mind lending Keitha to the Weyr?"
PostPosted: Sun Dec 11, 2005 2:21 pm

Keitha looked at the MasterHealer apprehensively. "There's a Healer at the Weyr, isn't there? I could get lessons from them! And once...if...I have a dragon of my own, I'll make sure to come back with all the information on dragons I can! Please, let me go?"

The MasterHealer grinned. "Well, there's not much choice, is there? Very well, then. Just make sure to keep up with your lessons. Dragonrider S'dar, I turn Apprentice Keitha over to your care."

Keitha's face split into a broad grin as she turned to the dragonrider.

"Excellent. I thank you, MasterHealer, for that courtesy, as well as for the numbweed. Many a dragonrider will be quite thankful for it after the upcoming threadfalls."

S'dar watched the last of the numbweed get loaded. "Well then, MasterHealer, I thank you for your courtesy as always. As soon as you pack your belongings, Keitha, we can go."
