I know it's winter for three reasons:

1) The car windscreen is frosted up every morning... and we still haven't found/bothered to replace the de-icer...

2) My tortoise went and buried herself at the bottom of the garden the day before we were going to put her in her hibernation box.

3) My coat is now covered in bits of fluffy white scarf.
