Contest has been moved to here in the main Writer's forum.

If any of you in this guild still want to join, be my guest. I won't charge you the entry fee, but just PM me first so that I know you're in this guild. I was hoping for a bit more participation though.

Intro

Hellllo!! So, I had some extra gold lying around and decided that the best way to spend it is to give it to a worthy writer (not to mention reviving some interest in this guild). Hence, this contest.

Now, seeing as though this is a fantasy guild, I thought that I should make this a fantasy contest. It could be any type of fantasy. Like the classical elves, dwarves and mythical creatures? Great. Want to sink your teeth into creating magic spells? Lovely. Want to create magical weapons with a keystroke? Excellent. Want to analyze the reasons behind Michelangelo's notorious crabby demeanor and his rivalry with Leonardo da Vinci? Eh, not so much, unless you give Michelangelo a flaming claymore. xd

Plus, I'm leaving the writing piece up to you. It could be a short story, a poem, hell, even an essay-style piece, as long as it deals with fantasy.

If you like fantasy, this is for you.

Rules

- All stories are to be posted in this thread. No PMs please.
- Limit of 3 entries per person (if you're going to do more than one, please put them in the same post)
- No plagiarism
- Word limit: 10,000 words
- Be respectful
- Piece of writing must contain some fantasy elements
- I reserve the right to change rules or cancel the contest

Prizes

ah, prizes. The thing that makes it worthwhile. How about I guarantee the winner 50,000g at least? If I feel that this contest becomes popular with more and more contestants entering, then I'll raise that number. So, it's in your best interest to enter. Don't make me cancel this contest because not enough people join. whee

1st place: 50,000g+
2nd place: 10,000g+
3rd place: 5,000g+

Deadline

Let's make it, oh

Dec. 31

If I feel like enough people need more time, we can always extend it, but for now, keep that date as the time to finish.

So, that's about it. If you got any questions, feel free to ask them in this thread. Have fun writing! I'm looking forward to your pieces. biggrin

Sounds interesting, I might do it. I have been in the writing mood for the past few weeks.

Wonderful! I'm definitely joining! I even have a topic in mind, but because I'm still working out the details, I haven't written it out on paper yet. I hope it'll still be worthwhile to read, even though I haven't written it out yet. Long story short, I did that once (I mean, I didn't write it out before I posted it), and it turned out pretty bad. Hm. We'll see how I do.

I'm fabulous, Hoot, but my unfortunate case of writers block isn't doing much for me.

Eh? Hmm...I guess I'll enterz. XD
BTW, this is the Prologue to the book I'mma writing, so PLZ don't take the concept, idea, WHATEV. Also, this is a piece of the past that deals with my Fursona/Persona Klis. 83
Plus, If this is too short, I have MOAR! 8D

Enjoy~

Prologue
The shrill sound of claws on rock awoke me, and I sat up with a jolt. I looked around my small den, as if I could see the creature. Nevertheless, everything was as it should be; as it would always be.
Therefore, I curled up into a ball again, wrapping my long tail around me. Just when I was falling asleep again, I heard the odd shrieking of claws on rock; but closer. I let out a low, threatening growl to show who owned this den, and was answered by a cat hissing. Hmm… a cat. That must be what made the scratching sounds. I shuffled to my feet, and staggered over to my small entrance. Once I had squeezed out, I let out a sharp yip of surprise. There was a female upwalker! An Upwalker. Or at least, that's what it looked like. She was human from the neck down, but her head was that of a cougar, or cat. She grinned rather maliciously before crouching down and stroking behind my ears. I was scared stiff; what kind of creature was this? And she gave off the aura that she could disembowel me with the very hand she was stroking me with.
"What are thy afraid of?" She asked with an accent I couldn't put a paw on. Almost naturally, I actually understood her. Most Upwalkers spoke in loud, unnatural voices. Then I realized she expected me to answer.
"I'm not used to Upwalkers around here," I said, trembling.
"Thee need not be afraid, for I am Bastet, goddess of feline. Though thy do not seem like a Feline, I have come to give thee help." She said, her voice tinkling with beauty; but with an undercurrent of power. "Thy art in grave danger, dear Trella, for thee shall suffer thy curse of Sekhmet." She said. Curiously, I felt no need to ask her how she knew my name; I had a feeling she was very wise.
"What curse?" I asked, despite my trembling. Bastet stopped stroking me, and moved her cold hands under my chin, then lifted it. It was hard to meet her eyes; they were cunning and black.
" Humanity as well as sanity shall be bestowed, and thy shall feel new blood being flowed ," She murmured, still holding my chin up. "This is all I can tell thy, but I trust thee to do what is right." She was beginning to shimmer in the moonlight, and her vice-like grip under my chin was fading.
"What curse?" I repeated to her fading form, slightly panicked.
"I trust thee to do what is right…" Her voice faded into the night, mixing with the calls of nightingales and other creatures of the dark.
I frowned at the ground and sighed before trudging off to my den again. This was the LAST TIME I would stuff myself before going to my nest. Sheesh, what a night.

thx for the entry! I'll put you on the list. If you got anything more to add before the deadline, feel free. In fact, as much of it as you can since a more completed story is better than a incomplete one. biggrin

Goodbye
(This story has been translated from Dragon-speech, so it may not have perfect grammar or spelling.)

It was dark.
She wanted light. Thrusting out, she dug through the black until it shattered and her world was bright. Her squeal of joy and hiccup of fire brought a giant, green face down to her level. It roared gently, and Sky-Of-Blue recognized it as mother. As she stretched her tiny, blue wings, Sky welcomed her new life.

"Ma, hungry!" yipped Sky-Of-Blue. The blue dragon hatchling clung onto her mother's legs, wanting attention.
"No, Sky. I'm going prey-catching now. In one hour, you will have food." The mother, whose name was Green-Forest, shook Sky off and prepared to fly.
"Why?" asked the ever curious, yellow-scaled Golden-Sun. He stared innocently up at Green-Forest.
"We will die if we do not eat." Forest was anxious to stretch her wings after months cooped up in her den. She said farewell to her two hatchlings, nuzzling them lovingly, then happily leapt up into the crisp mountain air. Her wings groaned pleasantly at the sudden action and she staggered in her flight with sheer joy. As a last thought, she called back to her kids, "Stay in the den no matter what!"
Sky ignored this and sadly watched her mother soar away. The mountain cave seemed strangely empty without Forest's comforting presence. She stomped angrily back to the nest and plopped onto her stomach.
"I wonder what prey looks like," pondered Sun. He pranced around the cave, occasionaly pausing to sniff random stones or to ask a question, like "What happened to this rock?" or "How did these pebbles get here?"
Sky was used to this and had learned to block it out, which is what she did for the next hour or two. By this time, her thoughts had returned to her mother. The sun is almost down. Where is Ma? I'm hungry! I bet it's been two thousand years! She wasn't exactly sure what a year was, but she knew it was a very long time, so two thousand years must be extra long.
Then, an idea came into Sky's little blue head. "Hey, Golden-Sun!" she called. "Follow me, I've got something to show you!"
"Okay," replied Sun. The two siblings crawled to the ledge outside of the cave.
"Let's go prey-catching," stated Sky simply.
"What? Why? How?"
"Let's prey-catch! Ma isn't back yet, so we can go get food really quick and surprise her!"'
"But we can't fly!" Golden-Sun stared at his sister, confused.
"I bet it's easy. Just move your wings up and down!" Sky did this as she spoke and even rose a few inches into the air.
Sun giggled and copied his sister. They were both unsteady at first, but they grew more confident and even started turning and going higher, then lower, then higher again. When they felt that they had the hang of it, the hatchlings stood at the tip of the ledge.
Swallowing hard and trying to be brave, Sky said, "Okay, let's do this."
Together, the siblings leaped off of the ledge, spread their wings, and flapped as hard as they could. For one scary moment, nothing happened, then they floated upwards. "We did it!" laughed Sky. "We really did it!"
A tiny blur flew past them. "Is that prey?" inquired Sun.
"You know what? I bet it is!" So the hatchlings chased the sparrow. The fresh mountain wind washed their faces until they grew too exhausted to continue.
"This is hard stuff," commented Sun. "Let's rest. Please, Sky-Of-Blue?"
Sky nodded. "Yah," she puffed. "Let's go home. Ma is probably waiting." She looked around briefly, then said, "Uh, Golden-Sun, you lead the way!"
Sun blinked. "What? Oh, um, okay..." He, too, glanced at their surroundings. He squeaked, "Where are we?"
Thick fog coated everything like snow. A few trees dared to penetrate the gloom, maybe some boulders, too, but the rest of the world was shrouded in white. An unnatural silence pressed down on them to finish it off, along with the smell of rain and pine trees.
